Don’t think so personally. He is a link up player, can rack up big numbers if we are on top.. he’s good, but not consistent enough and does not impact the game enough.. Is he a forward? is he a wingman? a half forward that help out in midfield/backline?
Personally I think we should be able to pay a fine to the AFL if we don't spend the salary cap rather than paying overs to players like Billings, Acres and Gresh who are OK but not spectacular.

The afl sites article on team's midfields and centre bounce setups is interesting.

We're predictably lowly with Steven's inclusion for Gresham marked as our most successful setup despite him not being present that often.

Similar is Brodie at GC - their success rate gets healthy when he's in the setup yet he can't get a game unless they need to break glass for emergency.

I hope we're doing everything we can on that one as I'd say he's a certainty to move.

Or permanently bank the dollars for later.

I guess it depends on the trade period but without bringing in a ruckman surely longer gets another year.

I still think we should get a mid season rookie. Probably for Paddy.
I'd like to get Riley Bice, just so, on the off chance that Rice and him both get a game, the commentators would think they are reading "Fox in Sox"
( Ok not serious ).

But there are some rucks :
Jack Blair 206cm, 26YO rugby convert from NSW.
Cory Gault 200cm, 26YO former Collingwood list . ( When he played at 23YO , he got less around the ground than Longer, and less hitouts than Acres ).
Jeremy Goddard 202cm 21YO, 68 hitouts in first two WAFL games 2019.
Zac Clarke, Old , but better brand of spud to Longer.

Or should we battle on with the rucks we have already got for the season, and get a mid like Bolton or Meadows.?

Have these guys overcome the issues they had , that stopped them being chosen to play AFL?

This is a joke of a system that sees bottom teams with little more room in the cap than the premier.

It has ruined what should be a good equalisation measure and turned it into another win for top players and top clubs. They should have to choose a chance at a flag and Collingwood for example over big money and hard yards at say north.

Lynch to Richmond was the last straw for me yet it barely raised a ripple amongst the butt kissing fan boi press.

I weight it up against need and probability of future success.

We might just pick up a mid who can force his way into the team, Marshall is a lock barring injury and a cheap backup shouldn’t be hard to find come trade period. Plus we get biggie for a late pick as a project key/ruck, probably take Voss late as well.

Yep - very flawed system that says a poor team must pay its players effectively the same amount as the best teams.

Salary cap expenditure should allow for lower ranked teams to bank at least 10% of the salary cap each year for 5 years to enable a realistic chance of bagging free agent's with OTT offers.

The thing is , if we take Longer and Pierce out of the equation, we are short rucks. We only have Marshall and Alabakis. No guarantee Biggie or Alabakis will make it.
If we used our first pick in the draft , we may have a ruck who can play in 2 or 3 years, or longer. If we use a late pick its even more prospective.

So out of the national leagues might be the best bet.

Goddard could be more of the lumbering ( not get much of the ball) type.

I don't know much about him, but I read that Oliver Eastland ( Scotch College , now playing for Claremont ) was a 194cm forward in Juniors, but is now 198 and rucking. Not the best ruck ever, but agile and athletic.

No minimum imo, the AFLPA have killed free agency and other competitive measures with the backing of the top clubs.

I’m happy enough with longer as the backup at present, if someone better is available cheap in the trade period or in the trash and treasure then we pick them up.

Honestly I would make a play for the big kid at Fremantle Darcy he’s blocked in their system behind lobb and he seems to have upside. I think he’s a Geelong falcons kid, he needs to trim down a bit but he can play and would be cheap imo.

Zac Clarke’s on Essendons list.

Sean Darcy from Freo is one worth looking at trading for

Prefer Ed Langdon over Dunkley.

Our 1st Pick is surely off limits, especially for a fringe player like either of those two.
Ed Langdon is far from fringe at the moment.

Averaging 28 disposals and 8 marks a game this year!

Dees for one should be all over him like a rash.

Reported on Fox tonight that 5 Vic clubs chasing him and Saints are one.
Also said he has put talks off to end of the year.
Arces for Langdon ?

Arces for Langdon ?

Why? Because he’s from Perth?
Sounds like the reincarnation of the “Armo to Queensland” thing. ;)

I would hate to lose Acres, especially if we could alternatively get it done with draft pix (which we should be able to do), but if we're unwilling to play Blake where he plays by far his best footy, then we probably would be better off trading him.

Especially to club that believed he had significant midfield potential and as such thought they'd get a lot more out of him than we are.

At the moment he's like a "stayer" (in horse racing terms) who's being run mainly in sprints. Seriously, what's the point?

Might as well offload him to someone who'll put him in staying races and thus will hopefully give us decent value for him.
