I doubt we have what is required to trade for all three.

Personally I am not in favour of Martin as he is inconsistent.

A package to get the two Freo boys I would be keen on, and most of all I would like Hill.

No way 3 soft outside mids will get us finals... our problem is getting the ball first.. none of the 3 solves this problem.. it makes sense to get 1 of these outside players along with a midfield bull.. Anyway, this won’t happen... Gallagher has already said we’re after mids that can play inside and outside... probably rules all 3 of them out.

Not a situation id wish upon anyone, yet part of me does just so they can fully understand the implications.

I understand both sides of the argument, but some comments are just staggering.

Most people just don't want to lose him. He's been our Barker in the bad times, seeing him taken away by Geelong using his illness as a bargaining chip makes people riled. I doubt anyone wants anything but the best for Stuv but they find it hard to let go of him as well.

I'm going to miss him, he's been a favourite fo so long it's going to hurt watching him in blue hoops.

He's not like Goldy who is still a top 6 ruckman, he's playing SANFL and unlikely to be listed next year if uncontracted. They have Himmelberg and Reilly O'Brien getting games now and are unlikely to go backwards

Not at all.
Goldy is still clearly a number 1 ruckman and wouldn’t want to be playing at Sandy and second fiddle to Roma.

Jacobs is clearly on the outer at present and is probably more than happy to keep playing even if it means being back up ruck.
Don’t really think there’s a comparison.

Is he leaving because his mental health issues demand that he must be in Geelong or otherwise it will be detrimental to his health? Because then it is up to BOTH clubs to find a deal to satisfy both parties to do what's best for Jack's health.

Or is he leaving because Geelong have chased him to replace Kelly for one last premiership tilt and he would rather go play for them? Because then thats bad lack because he is contracted and Geelong need to pay up to get him.

And article that came out today suggested that Geelong are the ones desperately chasing after him, so in that case, the club needs to be strong and not get rolled over by the club with the never ending salary cap.

I am so bloody furious with this Stuv business. I know more than I care to reveal on here about mental illness. We have done absolutely everything for this kid for the past dozen years and rewarded him very handsomely. He is our best player by a country mile and has won a bunch of B&Fs - he bloody well won it last year, Geelong signing him for nothing in a hypothetical trade makes my blood boil.

Mental health issues are nothing to play around with, if they are that bad, Stuv should quit the game and play local footy in Geelong. Spend time on himself, see as many specialists as he can and get his health right.

If our best player is contracted and wants to leave for Geelong, they can bloody well pay us what he is worth. If he is well enough to want to keep playing footy at another club, then he is well enough to not consider his mental health issues as a factor in a trade.

I don't know Jack, but I love my club and I'd prefer to see him retire and look after his health than be bent over in a trade with a top four club.

No Maybe about it we get what we want for Jack or he stays or sits out , club before player

We might get nothing if jack stays and his mental illness gets worse? part of the problem would be the environment so he needs a change to be closer to home.

This is a special case, very different to the Gibbs/Beams trades and so should be treated differently... for the sake of the club (we get a pick or a good young player) and Jack.(he gets better hopefully being closer to home and a new team)

There is what one wants, and then there is what one can actually get.

As it stands the club either:

- keeps our first pick and gets the best available mid (which currently looks like it will not be top3 and so will miss the 3 best mids).
- try and get the best available mid and for St Kilda that is Hill.

One can dream as much as one wants but there is no likely reason that say Cogs will choose us unless he values $$$ above all else.

Most mids that people will want to get to St Kilda will also want to win an AFL Premiership and will choose a team whom they believe are in the window next year.

With Hill he is already a 3× AFL premiership player, and as such I believe:
- that he will place a higher value on $$$ than say Cogs would for example.
- that he will not simply dismiss us due him not thinking it likely that we will a flag within 3 years.. Or rather that other teams are much more likely to.

He is gettable by us in terms of what we can trade.

At 26 he is a good age as he has an extended window.

I assume though that you mean the article that was basically pure speculation and which did not even hint at any sources. Could be quite a circular argument then as the author may well have sourced it after reading BigFooty.

Cold hearted is a bit harsh - from what I can see most people are basically saying is if Steven is well enough to play for Geelong then Geelong should pay a fair trade deal.

Nothing wrong with that.

Yes context is important. Of course it is.

If he's not moving because of mental issues, you look after the club.

Maybe wait until years 2,3 and 4 of his deal before you claim the sky is falling. Not ideal that he hasn't played more game this season, everyone acknowledges that. But if this process to rehabilitating him properly instead of running him into the ground like Sydney did means he is able to play the majority of the games for the rest of his deal, then there is really no harm done in him not rushing back to play in maybe the blockbuster of the season between 14th and 17th on the hard concrete dome dust pit.

Stop being so f...n melodramatic. Surely when we are paying a guy 800k per year we can expect some return? We are not a charity organisation we are meant to be a professional football club. His last 3 years have been seriously affected by the same injuries, there has to be some degree of accountability here surely?

I’m the opposite. It’s a simple business transaction. If Steven wants to go, fine, but Geelong can pay up. They ain’t getting a cheapie because Steven hasn’t played much footy this year. He’s a four time B&F winner which includes being the reigning winner.

With out giving too much away Jack's issues are mainly centred around his ex taking his kid back to Anglesea. All of the other bullshit speculation is just that, bullshit. He also has a very close relative with a serious illness, so let's just see what happens. I say **** footy, it's just a game.

Geelong are reasonable at the trade table (Stanley for pick 21 anyone?).

Let’s hope everyone is sensible about this. I think a mid teens pick and maybe some shuffling of later picks seems fair in the circumstances.

We are also helped that Geelong will be well compensated for Kelly.

Dane Beams, same age, same injury concern as Steven, trade was:

Bris: Beams, pick 41,44
Col: pick 18, 56, 2019 first

Would expect something similar

I know it makes no sense, wed only do it if Steven wanted to go there to be closer to family and Geelong facilitated it.
