Jarryd Lyons traded clubs

Yes, but the article was on the Trade & Free Agency period.

The article didn’t mention the loss of Jarryd Lyons by Gold Coast. Nor did it mention any other players picked up by other clubs as delisted free agents, or undrafted free agents (such as Sydney Stack for Richmond).

Whats with the love for Skinner... a bit far? Has had plenty of time now IMO. Hasn't really knocked the door down this season for senior selection either. and plays a role that we have some genuine depth in. Won't be surprised if he gets an extension but also would more than expect him to be not given one at this stage.
It was Skinners first year where he managed to get a full preseason and stay injury free since he was drafted.

There’s still a lot of hope from supporters for Skinner to show something.

He switched around a lot in the 2s between forward, defence and ruck which would indicate that the club clearly saw it as another year of development for him. Was huge in the grand final.

I think he has a very limited ceiling though and can't see him offering a lot more than what McStay currently does.

Ah Okay. 1 year deal I guess or maybe delisted and re-drafted.
Ballenden has more scope IMO. Seems a tad soft but reckon with his disposal by foot and size he could really come on if he can improve his body use and want for a contest. Can genuinely play any KPP and ruck IMO.

On a side note... I am actually surprised about the Christensen signing... maybe he wants too much and we called bluff. Should be signed on imo, even if it's off field capacity with our indig playing group growing.

I was just being a bit cheeky.

Skinner seems to be slower which is not surprising given his knees. But I wonder if he has been working as hard as he might on his fitness. Still worth another year I would have thought but these list decisions are hard given we have probably three more players than slots.

What we're actually saying is that the club that has had Daniher in their facilities his whole career and whose doctors have seen his body first-hand probably know more about the status of his body and risk of aggravating past injuries than BF commenters would.

To be fair if we're going to say that the only valuation of a player that is valid is the one in line with an AFL clubs the discussion would get stilted here pretty quickly.

It’s a minor point, but Lyons wasn’t picked up in a trade. He was signed as a delisted free agent. That is why he wasn’t included.
Yes i understand . I pointed him out for anyone else thinking why was he not mentioned in the article. Maybe i should have worded it differently

I like Connor Ballenden and I agree with your summation of him, I think he is at a higher level at the same age but that description also describes Jono Freeman, hopefully Connor doesn't end up the same, needs to add some crash, bash and aggression to his game.

Sunscast is a fool with terrible opinions and even worse recording equipment.
He must recorded on an iPhone 5s with a broken screen and a Gary Ablett Captain of the year case

I definitely see his ceiling as limited and at the start of the year had him in my delist category, but one thing he's proven quite capable of this year is his ability to crash packs and mark the ball. He'd be on cheap coin and has shown enough to be a good stop gap should Mcstay go down.

Bastinac, Hinge, Lester the most likely 3 IMO.

I'd be very surprised if we let Christensen or Skinner go, the others are a mystery to me.
According to dlanod we are keeping Lyons, Skinner and Eagles. From "Who is playing for their careers thread", Dlanod writes: "It's already been indicated that we're keeping Lyons, Skinner and Eagles (Cat B). I don't think any senior list player will be moved on to the rookie list given they are already uncontracted. I'd predict keeping Lester and Christensen but I'm really only about 50% confident that we'll do that - we might only keep one of the two, and delisting Robertson (obviously), Walker, and Keays."

Not sure of the source for Lyons?, but I think it was a Noble interview for Skinner. Eagles obviously confirmed by Q to AFL. We will have to deslist at least 3 from senior list you would think, so Bastinac and Hinge don't count, as currently rookies.

I find the idea of paying a player based of a single outlier season silly, so gave a silly counter-example. There's a much bigger list of clubs paying high on a player based off a single good season (including in our history - guys like Sherman, Hooper, Harding or Brennan signing disproportionate contracts based off a good year) and those players returning to their normal form than that good season being the new normal. Historically you are much much better off taking a player's median season and assuming that's their future production than taking their best and hoping that they'll hit it again.

That's before even considering that Daniher has only played a handful of games in the last two seasons. Does he even have a prime any more?

For me the main thing is a northern club caused a great deal of angst and destabilisation for one of the entitled BIGVIC squads, worth it just for the giggles. :tonguewink:

FURTHER LIST CHANGES

Brisbane Lions players Ben Keays, Josh Walker and Ryan Bastinac have been told they will not be offered a contract for the 2020 AFL season.

General Manager of Football David Noble said it was a tough decision letting the three players go.

“All three players have been dedicated contributors to our football club on and off the field over the last three to four years and we thank them for their contribution,” he said.

“As young men, they have all been a pleasure to have at our Club where they have been well respected and liked by our playing group.

“It is always hard to let good people go and we would hope that Ryan, Ben and Josh get another opportunity through the delisted free agency mechanism.”

Keays, an Hyundai Help for Kids Academy player, was recruited to the Lions with Pick No. 24 at the 2015 National AFL Draft.

He made his debut in Round 6 the following season and would go on to play 30 games in the #1 jumper.

The 22-year-old only managed two AFL games in 2019 but played strong football in the NEAFL. In their Grand Final win, he booted four goals, had 27 disposals and seven tackles.

Walker was traded to the Lions via Geelong in 2015 after playing 33 games with the Cats.

During his tenure at the Lions he alternated between the forward and backline and played 48 AFL games across four years.

In 2019 he played 11 senior games and was instrumental in the NEAFL’s premiership success.

Bastinac also arrived in the Den in the 2015 Trade Period after playing 121 games for North Melbourne.

Across four seasons at the Club he played 43 games and kicked 27 goals.
In 2019 he played three senior games and was the NEAFL’s Captain on Grand Final Day.

Walker was expected. Too many young talls to compete against. Payne at the back; Skinner at the front then there is Ballenden who is playing everywhere. McFadyen can play third tall back whilst Wooler can play forward. Will hopefully get a DFA contract somewhere to play third tall/list depth. Keays is unusually tough. Sure he could get one more year. Im not convinced Matheison and C Lyons are that far in front of him as midfielders but I guess with CEY and the likes coming in we need to lose some depth. In terms of forwards, I think he would excel at that role if he is given a chance to gel with the forward line. I really did like his nouse of hitting targets in the forward half. I guess with Cox on the list that area is also covered. Hopefully Keays gets picked up by the Suns; he would be much better depth than their current selections.

I’m not sure if McFadyen has actually played back all.

He was drafted as a forward/mid, and as far as I am aware, that’s where he’s played all season in the NEAFL.

Skinner was drafted as a KPD, so he’s more likely to go in to defence.

Walker is what he is. If Adams is injured at some stage next year I wouldn’t be shocked if we went with a smaller backline anyway, beyond the young key tall options.

Lester was reasonably effective as a third tall for a stretch too so if we keep him he’s an option as well.

More concerned about an injury to Andrews. We can cover Adams or even Dizzy with a like for like. Andrews might be a bit more challenging to cover with no Walker on the list.
