Definitely need more midfield class and depth, the ideal scenario would be that a few of the last 2 years draft classes ie. Tom Joyce, Tom Berry, Connor McFadyen, Brandon Starcevich, Ely Smith, Cam Rayner, Zac Bailey and Noah Answerth step up to be that midfield class and depth.

If it turns out that Ambrogio/Conole/Noble and co nailed those 2 drafts + adding another A grade mid or 2 via trade we will be set.

I have high hopes for Starcevich in the second half of this season.

Unlikely. Will be far more likely to play half forward or half back in the seniors. Would be great regardless though as he could always rotate into the middle if we need extra inside work.

I hear Freo is sniffing around Tim English from the Bulldogs despite developing their own young ruck Sean Darcy. If the English deal happens, I wonder if we could poach Darcy by offering him first team football.

At this stage Darcy would be more of a replacement for Archie than someone you'd be offering too many senior games. He could be something, but right now you'd get the same impact (largely ineffective hitouts and plodding from ruck contest to ruck contest) out of Billy Longer.

What a bloody boring weekend this is footy wise, I hate the byes spread over 3 rounds.

IMO they should have a single bye round with no footy and have the mid season trade period (which is almost a certainty to come in next season) run from say the Thursday morning to Sunday evening.

For journos it is, because when you can quote "a source" you can say anything you want. But if a game is actually played and people see it, well then you can only report on facts. Makes their job too difficult.

Plus there’s the U18 & U16 Championships on at this time of year. About time the AFL gave it greater exposure on FTA tv.

AFL can highlight the kids and promote the draft like they want, as well as bring in the trade period they want, etc

i hate the bye rounds as well although end up watching other matches as thurs-Sun...
Just get a longer list and play everyone twice 34 rounds and 8 weeks final 10 Then 6 weeks preseason be about right for footy played.
They can have 4 weeks off like the rest of us
