It's unfortunate that Toby McLean signed a 3 year deal last season. Dropped this week, stuck forward all year when he's clearly a midfielder.

Really wouldn't shock me to see him traded despite his contract. We have a gluttony of mids and it means guys like McLean are missing out on opportunities. Just look at Lipinski - tore it up in the VFL all season but took until Round 10 to make his way into the team, and has been outstanding. We have far more pressing list needs, so wouldn't shock me seeing something like a McLean for McStay trade (just a random example) since it helps both clubs.
McLean is too good of a mid to be languishing in the forward line and VFL

**** I'd be pretty tempted to do that if McStay wanted to Mcleave.
It's the type of trade that would end up mutually beneficial I think. Given the nature of trades these days, probably involves the trading of about 6 other random picks in various rounds to balance it out, but both clubs would be mad not to at least consider something like that if both players requested

Are people seriously wanting to get rid of McStay and further where on earth has this talk come from?

He hasn't signed a contract yet and the bye rounds are done. Very possible he requests a move. Don't think anybody would actively want him out.

I'd be stunned. I chatted to his parents who were in attendance at a Lions dinner post draft night last year (the only family of any player at the dinner, which even then surprised me they were there) and they couldn't speak higher of the club and Dan's attitude to loving the club and Brisbane itself. Hence my shock at any talk of him leaving or people wanting him out.

Again, nobody wants him out.

I rate McLean but I think we need either a big bodied mid or a quick/skilful wing rather than another small mid with average skills.
McLean is definitely an above average user, and quite clever with ball in hand, which is why the Dogs are trying him out as a small forward.

Although yeah, bigger body is probably more required, and Ely Smith won't be ready for at least another year

Came from me raising his name as the type I'd see McLean being traded for (if such an unlikely scenario were to come up in the first place).

Brought him up since he's a KPP out of contract, not because there's any indication he'd be leaving the Lions

I don't see any pressing intention on our part to keep Cuts so it's likely we'll trade him out for a third round pick or so and he can go on to be a 200 game player somewhere else .

We really need to be looking to build our M/F depth . We've got plenty of big guys on our list and you'd hope a couple of those could develop into good players . If Coleman kicks on we've probably got a few smaller forward/running/ back types in the wings ,Bailey ,Starcevich, Madden ,Berry etc

We really need a stronger bodied mid with more skill and ball winning power than Matho and/or a fleet footed winger.

But you can never have enough good midfielders because if they're good enough to do that they can also likely play forward or back

McLean I like. Not sure about McStay, strange he's not signed up yet and one or the other parties is perhaps wavering . Would be gutted to lose him after all the work we've put into him and the effort he's now bringing to the contest.

I seriously don't understand all this talk about Us needing big bodied midfielders we have Berry he's definitelybeen missed we also drafted Smith last year what we need most is a shutdown small in defence to replace Hodge Richmond has a handy freeagent this season who fits the bill perfectly in Ellis

McStay isn't going anywhere. If anything, I would back that he has put contract talks off to concentrate on seeing where he is as a footballer. We all can see that he could become one of the most dominant forwards in the game if he stuck his marks. I think the next 8 weeks will set him up for either a 350k or a 550 k a season contract.

I agree, I think now after being a critic of his last year that he is on the edge of becoming very valuable. For me his work rate in defence has lifted, he now looks like he wants to be part of every minute of every game and if his reliability with set shots lifted we have a beauty. I think at this stage, if the game is in the balance you don't want the ball in his hands with a set shot but that the same with Charlie and Hippy for now.

It's just a thought bubble trade scenario but I'm with you on this one Dylan, no way I'd entertain the thought of trading McStay, he is having a great season..... if only he could fix up those easy set shot misses he'd be highly rated throughout the whole competition.
