Explain your sources though. Where is this ‘keep hearing’ coming from?

I once asked this in the Rocky thread a few moons ago. Was told by a mod at the time no one is going to reveal their sources on a public forum.

You’d be surprised who reads these forums.

I found out a year later that Rocky and a couple of others read BigFooty.

Not to say I want McStay gone Walker not been bad this year..
McStay 28 form 16 games avg 1.75 a game.
Walker 16 from 10 games avg 1.6 a game. Did not have a mark last week :) was 16 from 9 at 1.77 going into the Port game

McStay 65 marks in total from 16 games vs Walker 63 from 10 games

There's some pivotal stats that aren't mentioned here. McStay outperforms Walker for contested marks (top 20 AFL) and marks inside 50 (top 40 AFL). Don't underestimate these factors.

The symbiotic factor also applies here as he definitely provides better cover for Hipwood from this aspect.

I'd be surprised if the Lions let him go.

I would be pretty disappointed if McStay was too leave. Think he's on the cusp of becoming a very damaging player for us. Would be a huge shame to lose him.

I have always been a huge fan of McStay and hope he stays as he is pretty important to our structure now and we have pumped heaps of development into him. However, I am cooling on his potential. I think he is only going to make it to role player level at this point. Plays an important role but is unlikely to be a match winner. Good for between 25 - 35 goals a year. Hipwoods foil if you like rather than partner in crime. Does that make any sense?

Didn't Mighty Lions (who has a good track record) mention Dan had signed an extension?

Personally I can't see why he'd leave us when we're on the cusp of something special unless there was a very large difference in our offer v other clubs.

I think that Dan McStay would have been perfect in the past Hawks era where it was a more open and expansive style of football.
We keep things tight and in most cases just want him and others to get the ball to ground for the smalls to take advantage and he is playing that role perfectly!
So in our team he is doing exactly what is required of him, can’t ask much more of him really and I am hoping that he stays but I do feel that we are better placed now than we were a couple of years ago to absorb the loss if he does decide to leave?

I’d be gutted; I really like Dan and his parents are really stand up people that are very supportive of the club.

Dan could be doing a bit of a Daniel Bradshaw with no intention of leaving but shopping himself around to drive up his price.

He would be a huge loss if he left. He’s not the biggest goalkicker but you can’t underate everything else he brings.

Who is his Manager?

Meh, if the rumours are true that he is interested in leaving, not a big loss to be honest. Rating himself pretty highly despite missing countless shots from 30m directly in front?

Just a role player who won't take a game by a scruff and dominate, something both Hipwood and McInerny have done this year.

If he can't do it in Brisbane at smaller crowds, can't see him doing anything different in large Victorian games.

w0t?

It would seem like a strange move for him to leave now imo. Has his place in the 22, progressing well in his role and after sticking with us through some down times, at a club where he reputedly loves to be, he's going to move just as we're becoming a finals team? Even if the lure of going back to Melbourne was there for him he can sign for two years, spend some time in a finals calibre side then assess his options two years later as a free agent.

What's going to dislodge him now? A few extra bucks? A long term contract on the table from elsewhere now? Maybe, but wouldn't really think there'd be anyone offering him significantly more dollars than us or a long term contract. Would think his peak would be 2-3 years from now so signing up long term now is likely to impede his ability to maximise future contract anyway.

I still think he'll ending up staying.

I thought it was just about to be announced his resigning ! why are we now looking at him leaving ?

So my takeaway from those tweets are Payne about to make his AFL debut. Just in case Harris doesn’t get off.
He didn’t!
So he will!

What tweets specifically? I couldn't see them.

The ones above Dylan12 posted from the Lions training today.

The last photo is Payne standing like an Adonis looking over the Gabba field.

If McStay does leave an experienced option to come in while the likes of Ballenden/Fullerton develop could be Charlie Dixon?
Was chased by the club a few years ago and is originally a qlder.
Just some food for thought.

i hope he stays, dont really think any of the top teams need/would want him that much but he adds so much to our structure it just wouldnt make sense to me.

also would like to see him break out after working so hard at his role and finally add that contested marking and scoring to his game for us. Ideally this year ;)

In regards to trades it would be interesting to see if they target players who can’t get back on the park again e.g. McCarthy and Adams.

Players want to play and our medical/conditioning department would be right up there.

That could be a third of GC’s list.
