I agree Jackess highest scoring team although avg of goals and points
4th with 292 goals avg 12.9
1st with 293 points avg 12.7

Although against the other top 4 teams we kicked only 8 goals three times and lost all three.
Pies 18.15 vs 8.13 Lost 61 points
Cats 10.14 vs 10.15 won by 1 point
Tigers 12.10 vs 8.7 lost by 27 points
Tigers 18.4 vs 8.17 lost by 47 points

To go next level do we grow from within or look to trade
Interesting look at the two tigers games.. they had same scoring shots although 6 more goals.
We had 10 more shots and no more goals.

Considering this is the first year we have had a stable line up who can get used to playing together (That so stood out about how the Tigers played) there is much improvement to come. Both from individuals and from the cohesion familiarity brings. Whilst its always nice to dream of the silver bullet (usually a forward) trade we probably don't need it. Incremental steps is what we need now, age appropriate depth to help cover the inevitable injury issues once they come and perhaps some players with differences to gives us more unpredictability. Oh and no plodders, Tigers speed killed us in the second half.

I think we're targeting Ah Chee as we want to continue to add to our pool of young talent whilst we rise up the ladder for sustained success. He's only 21 and as a former pick 8 can join the likes of Andrews, McCluggage, Rayner, Hipwood ect. as a big part of our future. He has all the potential in the world. He's fast, has a great leap, really strong mark over head and skilful on both sides of the body. He has the tools to be a very good player. Hasn't been able to make it work at GC and injuries have played a part in that. If he comes here and our medical/conditioning team can get his body right, I'd back our coaching staff to develop him into a quality player.

Fagan and Co. obviously identified McCarthy and Adams as players who could contribute for us if we got their bodies right, I think they view Ah Chee in the same way. Ah Chee will be entering next season as a 22 year old heading into his 5th season. If he can have a big pre season he could hit his straps and break out next year as a very good player. I've put a bit of thought into his recruitment these past couple of days and am pretty excited about the prospect of him joining us to be honest.

Ah Chee can play back or mid or forward only young can see him being top 22
Forwards probably best to look at what we have now work on weaknesses and please do not get Jenkins in to fix it :)
I would take Daniher although that is highly extremely unlikely.

TBH i think th next step is going to come from our ball movement rather than expecting young KPF to suddenly be able to rip games open. It is possible to be a good KPF without being an elite player. The way we are moving the ball inside 50 currently is not helpful for young KPF players who aren't great contested markers. It has been our strength to get the ball inside 50, bring it to ground then allow the smalls and mids to lock it in and create scoring shots. Next evolution of our game style is generating some speed with the ball and being able to hit some players on the lead. As much as our forwarda get berated for not leading, we dont mobe the ball fast enough to allow any space to lead into.

Now you look at the kind of players we have been linked to, Ah Chee and maybe Laird and i see a list management team that is well aware of the state of play and has already been looking to improve our ball movement. Give us 2 more years to really drill the game style into our players, more natural improvement plus new talent and i think we will be a hard team to stop.

End of the day we aren't the Crows, we are still building our list and our game style. Hippy will prove to be a valuable forward, especially if we start moving the ball better. McStay is fine as he is essentially a 3rd tall, he is there to stretch the defenders and keep them honest. What will be interesting is what happens post Stef. Not convinced Big O is our number 1 ruckman, but makes a handy forward/ruck.

One thing that was really noticeable on the weekend was the acres of space the Richmond forwards had almost every time the ball went in to their forward 50.

Either Lynch, Reiwoldt or Martin were contesting a 1 on 1, or they were leading in to a vacant forward 50 with our defender invariably caught out of position and unable to recover fast enough to spoil the ball effectively.

However many of our forward 50 entries were into crowded forward lines, where we often had to crumb the ball.

Probably a result of gamestyle. We go on the boundary line allowing them to quickly get back wheras they go down the corridor

We play a high press / forward half game. When we're on top, we keep the ball there and get a lot of repeat F50 entries. However if opposition get through, then theres often a lot of space out the back, or a 1 on 1 contest in our D50.

This is also intentional. We go down the line with tall targets presenting to bring the ball to ground, and either crumbed by our smalls to go forward, or create another stoppage. This usually does not result in fast ball movement ala corridor play, but we are able to much better defend turnover as our players are already in position along one half of the ground.

Often fans in the grandstand would tell out "kick it long, move it". But the fact is we often hold onto the ball, wait for guys to setup up the line before kicking long, rather than bombing long to outnumbered forwards and having ball rebounded instantly, and opposition scoring from turnover. In other words we are more composed with ball movement.

The only criticism is at times we are too conservative with ball movement, and not look for the corridor play when it is open. We played like this for the first 2 years under Fagan, and it was exciting to watch, but got scored against a lot if we turned the ball over. We have gone away from that this year, especially after the bye. However there are times we need to take on the game a bit more. That is the balance we will need to learn, and no doubt we will as we become a better, more experienced team.

Richmond went along the boundary a lot. But hand balling instead of kicking.

Their set ups from Goal square kick ins were amazing to watch.

Their small forwards set up along the flanks time after time, allowing their mids to stay inside.

Rich, Witherden and Hodge can’t run with their small forwards.

And we really shouldn’t play both Adams and Gardiner against them. Neither are capable of playing on Reiwoldt effectively.

Ideally we need the taller Payne playing on Reiwoldt, (but he’s too inexperienced at this stage) with either Gardiner or Adams playing as a third tall who plays on Martin when he goes forward, and they zone off as an intercepting defender when Martin goes in to the midfield. There’s no room for both in the team against Richmond.

Which means we need another small, fast defender who can run with their small forwards. And another fast, small/medium defender when Hodge retires.

I get this, and I think you are correct, however I don't see why we continually need THREE talls to contest every forward entry....at least one should TRY and make a decent lead every time - that we have more options than simply banging the ball long every time and hoping our superior(?) forward ground ball work eventually wins out.
