CEY does have form issues. Lack of flexibility is a big part of the reason why he hasn't played more AFL footy but injuries isn't the only reason why he's averaged 5 AFL games a season.
I can see both sides of it . I'm a bit surprised tbh but have an open mind . The first issue is to get him fit and well and then see what he's got.

Maybe we feel we really need his type of player and he was the best we could get from whoever was available

I agree to an extent. These last few years however, it seems like injuries have been his main issue. 2017 was lost to an ACL. 2018 he played the first 12 games before getting injured, came back via the reserves (averaged 35+ disposals in 3 games). This year he started in the SANFL for two games (21 and 36 disposals in this games), and was then in the AFL for the next 10 games (averaging ~25 disposals) before getting injured again.

I know we've been having a good run with injury prone players, but my biggest concern is keeping him on the field.

We will no longer hold the first pick in the second round following the rescue package for the Suns :'(

Arent they getting pick 20 not 19?

Edit: Nevermind, they are getting the first pick of the second round which gets pushed back due to them getting the other compo pick.

Their start of first round priority pick (either one or two) means that the first pick of round 2 is currently 20 as there are 19 first round picks. So our pick 19 has been pushed out to 21.

Yep, just worked it out 👍

This is not good news for us. We just lost our "Full Flush" hand at the trade table. Given to them to even up our trade of exchanging picks last year which turned out a disaster for them.

I’d be offering pick 52 for ah chee now they can get F### . What a joke given pick 1 and screw us over with start of second round . Afl is an embarrassment. These muppets are giving away jarrod Lyons for morning , trading Steven May our contracted etc and they expect a leg up to this extent .

Bastinac is probably the example of where it hasn't worked.

You could see this as replacing Bastinac with big bodied depth. CEY however can step up and make the spot his own, it's there for the taking.

Eddie will go crazy about this gift to a northern state.

Its three years of draft assistance includes:

  • Pick No.1 at the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.
  • The first pick of the second round (currently pick No.20) at the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.
  • Mid first-round pick (currently pick No.11) at the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.
  • The first pick of the second round (currently Pick.19) at the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.
It will also get Darwin as part of its expanded Academy access zone, while it will be able to pre-list players out of that region without the AFL's normal bidding processes.

The final part of its assistance package will be the ability to rookie up to 10 players.

Ellis Yolmen I think offers inside grunt and depth to our squad but seriously two years would have been more than enough. Why are we offering four years to a player who rarely gets on the field? I really hope if we are offering four years we are not paying much and that the final two years of his contract don't impact the re signing of a major young talent.

AFL really has really changed over the years and right now its just as important what you do when you don't have the ball as to when you have possession. Players need to be able to run both ways. I'm hoping CEY won't be exposed in this department.

The subtext to this package is that things are absolutely dire at the Suns. This is lifesaving surgery.

Kind of self inflicted and also in part due to AFL house with their start up. This is way overs, way overs and the only thing it is going to cause is absolute dislike of the Suns from the rest of the AFL.

CEY and Ah Chee are both good moneyball picks thjat won't cost us that much, and potentially have some decent upside....

Neale I am sure would appreciate a CEY type in those games this year where he got targetted and consistenly smashed on the inside.

His first 2 years weren't too bad for us, the last 2 coincided with an improvement in the list especially players who play his "position".
4 years ago I think we almost had to accept that we were only going to get b/c grade players by paying overs.

Yeah, hard to have a problem with what they've been given when they've pretty much averaged 5 wins a season. It would be good to get back to hating them instead of just having pity.

I think the other message to take away is that they are 100% committed to a second team in Queensland. They aren’t going to let the club wither on the vine.

I’d rather overs than unders when it comes to propping up teams in expansion markets. It shits me that they left us in the mire for too long that I can’t be critical of the AFL when they’ve actually recognised this time that it takes more than goodwill to rescue a club.

This is good for footy in Queensland and causes only very minor pain to the other clubs. A massive win for the game.

Brisbane were rubbish for years and what did we get an end of first rounder pick 18 or something . Half the suns issues stems from their own incompetence Lyons perfect example .

Every club makes mistakes, if we withhold all equalisation measures because clubs have made errors or because previous administrators were incompetent, no assistance would ever be given.

The only pertinent issue is what the Suns require to be viable going forward.
