Find it odd that Lions supporters are angry or begrudging of the GC getting a bit of help. Even those I chat to not on Bigfooty get really angry and want to deny them assistance. It seems to really hit a nerve. Its strange given we were in need of it a couple of years ago and hated those saying we didn't need or deserve it.

Who cares how they got there, they need a shot in the arm and good luck tot hem, I hope they use it well. And.. I don't hate the fact we didn't need much assistance in the end, infact.. I am proud of it, so that has no effect on my opinion of what they got in the end. No one wants to need assistance like that.

The only thing I would have done is had an aid package ready, but had certain further picks triggered.. I know it could lead to tanking, but what happens if they have an unforseen rise next year and make finals? people are going to hate those future picks.

CEY has never been consistently on the park so therefore I haven’t seen too much of him playing, but one thing I will say is that I was very impressed with his game against us earlier this year at the Gabba.
He didn’t get a massive amount of the ball but had impact when he did.

I can understand not rating him, but adding Midfield depth is not strange, regardless of the type. We need it. Hopefully we address the need for speed elsewhere, but that doesen't mean we neglect other areas. The only inside mid we have in the ressies this could be seen as a slight on is Matho.. Hardly terrible having one back up inside mid only when we have a perfectly healthy list?
Would personally rather give a game to Mathieson, Lyons or Smith before giving a game to someone like CEY who is just a stop gap a game. We have a few needs in the team at the moment and i did think getting CEY is going to help them at all, we also looked extremely slow around contest in games against Collingwood and Richmond and adding CEY is not helping that at all.

Why sign a depth player to a 3 year contract?

I said at worst he's depth. Really though, he is what our midfield is lacking. You look at the teams who beat us this year and you'll see a common theme Among most:

Carlton: Cripps
Fremantle: Fyfe
Richmond: Martin
Collingwood: Treloar
Bulldogs: Bont

It's the big bodied mids that our mids are most susceptible to losing to. By adding a guy like CEY, we've got a player who can contest against big bodied mids, applies very good pressure and can tag at stoppages. Nobody can do that on our list outside of Robinson who had a career year playing wing and Berry who is young. This is a strategic pickup to fix a weakness in our game.

JLyons was described as slow and lacking 2 way running ability. He has proven to be a gem...Noble knows what he is doing and once again has good insider knowledge of CEY from his time in Adelaide.

So we keep trading for mids who are slow and don’t run hard enough defensively?

To my mind it's pretty simple - if Mathieson, Lyons or Smith can't get a game ahead of CEY that's on them, not on CEY.

Dustin Martin doesn't run hard defensively and doesn't exactly have the biggest tank.. Worse case CEY will be a handy addition to our depth, best case he becomes an intimidating inside force for us.

I feel as though the lack of faith in our admin is unfair.

Most of those players are star midfielders of their team and the comp Nunez and those players dominate more often than not. I've seen how strong CEY is in the contest but not sure on his fitness?

If I had to pick one weakness that we needed to address it would be the quality of our inside 50 kicks. That's what put us in harder set shot positions against Richmond and why GWS defenders were marking everything. We need a running defender, like the other Adelaide players we were linked to more than anything but it doesn't sound like that will happen this year.

They've earned the benefit of the doubt, but that doesn't mean there should be zero doubt.

Yeah nice just pick a theme that fits your arguement. We were one of the best clearance and contested teams last year, both times we lost against Richmond we beat them in both clearances and contested ball. If you decided to actually take note of what lost us the games against Richmond and Collingwood it was our inability to match their speed in the midfield. CEY is a good depth player but not worth a 3 year contract and does not have the ability to really playing else where on the ground and does not add another dimension to our mid group. Also Treloar is not a big bodied midfield by the way champ.

The subtext to this package is that things are absolutely dire at the Suns. This is lifesaving surgery.
Yep dire ....... Like it was for us for a decade. Couple of end round pp and as already mentioned a sprinkling of mercenaries....this is well and truly an apology after the failure to provide a better start. An AFL Mulligan if you will....... Wish the AFL had the same empathy for our club during its time of need...... But in the end this had to happen for the good of football in QLD and more specifically the Gold Coast

JLyons was described as slow and lacking 2 way running ability. He has proven to be a gem...Noble knows what he is doing and once again has good insider knowledge of CEY from his time in Adelaide.
Yeah because Lyons worked we should just have a team of slow inside mids, great idea buddy. I have faith in Noble and Fagan but i don't think this is the right move with the current landscape of our midfield.

Kind of self inflicted and also in part due to AFL house with their start up. This is way overs, way overs and the only thing it is going to cause is absolute dislike of the Suns from the rest of the AFL.
I partially agree with you here..... unfortunately the AFL's lack of action in the past has prompted a far more aggressive approach to the future for the sun's....I don't like it either but I recognise the need for it

Lol not wasting my time on a poster like you. Champ.

Noble's interview summary:

- confirmed interest in CEY to recruit bigger bodies for our midfield. Mentioned that some of our mids got 'worn down' during the season and his strength will help that while allowing for other mids such as J Lyons to pinch hit up forward.
- Thinks CEY is on the rise to improve his game. Likes his ability to improve our clearances and play a run with role.
- Speed, run and ball use off wing and half-back are the areas they are looking to improve.
- Says a similar "Luke Hodge" type player is not a necessity given our age profile but didn't rule it out. No mention of Birchall specifically.
- Says Lewy and some other players were kept out by a healthy list not form. Seems like we will hold off on delistings until after the trade period. Mentioned that Lewy is a player we would like to keep on our list.
- Says he hasn't spoken to anyone from the Crows about their job. Says he is comfortable in the direction of his career. Likes working in a football department and not coaching.
- Is 'unware' if Brodie Smith and Rory Laird have any interest.
- On Birchall: Imagines that he is required at the hawks. Dances around the question but re-emphasis that half-back is an area we would like to improve. Did not comment on if we would or would not chase him
- On the Suns package: Happy for footy in the state that it is getting support. Feels that the AFL didn't give us much support when we presented our case to them and that we had to pull our socks up and fix it ourselves. "Would have been nice to get a bit more support." Re-iterated that we have got on with it and aren't dwelling on it. Thinks it is great for QLD footy that this has happened.
- We still want to go to the draft this year for some talent. our recruiters reckon its an even field and we would like to move up in the draft.

Might have missed some things but i'm sure a recording will be available later on.

I think the resentment comes from the type of assistance given not the assistance itself. I know that's what makes it hard to swallow for me, but I understand why the Sun's need it though....so I am sure they will come around eventually

Nobes seemed a little pi$$ed that we didn’t receive a bit more help during our time of need. IMO the future pics that the suns receive is too generous

Don’t think our last loss to the tigers was due to clearances or contested ball. I think we win that match if we had our kicking boots on
