There's a lot of good traits in that kid. Watch closely.

Nice soft hands, gets the ball off very quickly for a big man, dual sided, and uses his size well to chop out team mates.

Crazy talented for a kid that size. Just don't think the club should be in a position where the only elite player to choose from is a guy that might be a ruck or a key forward. He looks like a ruck to me. I don't think picking a ruck in the top five should be ruled out like some do but I'd feel more assured knowing the club could choose Thilthorpe or an elite talent with a better set position.

I can’t see the dogs trading out their 1st rounder. Crows can wipe them out of the draft - they need every point they can get not to be in deficit. Can’t see how they get more than 1,268 points on later picks.
They will have clubs queuing up to offer them more than 1268 points worth of later picks to get their mitts on 12.

His ball handling in close is reminiscent of Goldy, and he's a better mark & dual sided kick. Build up his tank and he could very well be a highly effective ruckman/swingman.

Reminds me a bit of Leuenberger who looked to have it all at draft age but never quite put it all together at AFL level.

Based on what I've seen/read, the worry is whether he can develop his leap enough to become a decent tap ruckman. Watching the All-Stars game from last year, it really stood out that he was consistently well beaten in the ruck by much less highly-touted prospects. If he can't drastically improve this side of his game, is he essentially just an average key forward who moves like an (admittedly very athletic) ruckman? He doesn't look much better than Xerri in that role from what I've seen. He has some nice traits, but I'd be pretty uncomfortable drafting him at 2 without a clear elite position.

All this pessimism post the FA compo picks and whatever chicken feed we get for Brown and Higgo is going to completely melt away when one of the big five studs walks into the club in December. That elite talent is going to help lift up the club. Imagine LDU and Simpkin working to not be outdone by Hollands or what DGB would look like clunking the ball over the top of Larkey in the pre-season. Couple of clips of Logan McDonald getting the ball at full pace from a Bailey Scott pass and we'll be looking good to go for 2021 and beyond.

True. I think if you go and have a look at the development of this aspect of Goldy's draft year and then his first few years playing AFL, Thilthorpe has got him covered. Whether he can develop into a run all day, repeat-effort beast is another question entirely.

He is really explosive seeming. His one-grab clunks are incredible and he seems like a smooth moving midfielder. I kind of hope that he is available and will call him out with 2.

If only there was a scary talent with a knee injury in this draft...

Selwood had exposed dominant form in the midfield and runs on the board Hollands could only dream of. If we go Hollands at #2 then I'll back him in but Hollands in coming in as mostly potential whereas Selwood was already a dominant midfielder with more than enough runs in the board.

I'm in this camp too.

Why wager our highest ever pick on a mercurial player who might not make it as a dominant midfielder, when we already have the likes of Zurhaar, Thomas & Taylor in the forward line? Jy, LDU & Jed are going to need another mid to chop them out in ~3 years when Cunners pulls the pin and getting another elite guaranteed one in now makes sense to me.

Ultimately if we take him and he can transfer that skill set in to 70+% midfield minutes, then there will be nobody happier than me. I just wish I had seen the kid play a few matches, as I could probably pick it up then.

You'll be backing him in in about 30 days I'd suggest.

If hollands played this year we wouldn't be having this conversation or a chance to grab him as there'd be him then daylight to 2nd.

God I’m worried about his knee.

I was trying to think last night about guys that have come back from knees to star.

Robbie gray was probably the best comparison I could come up with.

Petracca is another one.

Going much further back, stevo, but not a good comparison with Hollands.

Any others that people can think of?

I can't even think of somebody high rated that did a knee and failed (draft level of course).

Selwood’s knees were supposedly cactus and it’s why he slid in the Hansen draft. He had a much worse condition that just a ligament tear iirc. ACL’s are extremely manageable these days anyway.
