2020 Consensus 22: name the team FFS

Not a lot of love for Gibbons. Could surprise a few.

Our squad has definitely improved, but I honestly thought he finished off the year quite strongly as a half forward/midfielder.

Unless people have him in our midfield, I reckon he'll get more game time in the 1's than what most people are expecting.

We're picking our 'BEST 22' though, not our '22 who play games when our preferred players are injured 22'

Gibbons is a mid I reckon.

HF: Cuningham - McKay - Martin
F: Betts - Curnow - McGovern

Reckon these 6 just about pick themselves, with the 7th up for debate.

Fisher and Setterfield are both certainties for the 22 IMO but I won't vote for them here; they are mids and therefore I expect them to spend a lot of time in the midfield in 2020.

Jack looks a lock for 7th spot.

The other 2 are definitely mids currently, I'd only describe one of them a 'certainty' though.

It's early days but that's certainly how it's looking with Jack on the bench and Fisher the fwd emergency, provided he doesn't make the 22 via the midfield selections.

Thinking ahead....

Do we really need to vote for our ruckman?...

Probably fair to say Kreuz will win by a landslide and not having him, Pittonet & De Koning (& Levi?) in the midfield voting options will reduce the possibility of skewing through 'people' voting for all 4. Also means there more free spots for other players who haven't yet made the team.

If Levi were to get a spot, it's as one of the 7 forwards. We are going to play 7 true midfielders

Sure, Kreuzer is a certainty, but probably better to have a seperate vote for the 1 ruck spot.

First 22:

B: Plowman----------------Marchbank----------------Simpson

H: Docherty----------------Weitering-----------------Newman

C: Newnes------------------Cripps--------------------O'Brien

H: Cuningham-------------C.Curnow------------------Martin

F: Betts---------------------McKay-------------------McGovern

Foll: Kreuzer, Setterfield, Walsh

Bench: Jones, E.Curnow, Murphy, SPS

Yep; 1 ruck, 5 starting mids, 2 bench mids, 1 emergency mid and 1 ruck-capable emergency.

My feeling is that Levi gets the ruck emergency spot.

He's not going to make the 22 but could end up in the vicinity of 25 votes all up across the course of the polling. While that's not close to what's needed to make it in a particular line, it is still a respectable showing and should be much higher than the alternatives for the emergency ruck spot.

Bit harsh on Setterfield, looked very good as the year progressed. Wouldn't surprise to see him start in the centre square for the opening bounce against the Tigers. ;)

EMG: Newman

Jeremias has kindly reset the poll for me so we're now voting for forwards.

I love Simmo but surely if it is a decision between him and Newman we go with Newman.

That is a pretty decent set of defenders though.

How are you going to pick 7 midfielders..

LOCKS:lock:Cripps, Murphy, Curnow, Walsh
PROBABLES ✔
Setterfield, Fisher
POSSIBLES:question:Gibbons, Dow, Stocker, O'Brien, Kennedy Newman, Newnes, Williamson
KIDS :baby: Philp, Honey, Cottrell, Kemp, Ramsay

Good luck choosing only one of those possibles.

Where do you have Cuningham?

Maybe bench. If not, Emergencies.

I'm not his biggest fan(of which there are many, probably too many imho). But i'm not closed to him. There is definately something there, just not convinced it's real as opposed to wishful.

Big year for him no doubt. Plays as a 23yo all next year. It's time. Hope he brings it.

The Rules
We will be choosing the best available 22 players to hypothetically line up for Round 1, 2020 against the Tigers at the MCG – essentially, our best starting team on paper. We’ll go through each area of the ground: first the defenders; then the mids (and ruck); then our forwards; and finally the makeup of our bench and emergencies.

if these are the rules for this threads Consensus Best 22 and we mostly agree Charlie is in our Beat 22 does that mean we all think he will be available for Round 1?

For the forward line I went with ...

HF. Martin. Charlie. Cuningham.
FF. Betts. McKay. McGovern.
I. Fisher.

And missing out aka Depth I have JSOS, Gibbons, Kennedy and Casboult.

Casboult is first in if McKay or Charlie is not playing.
