GC would have to be worried about taking Hollands after taking Kemp last year. I could see them taking Zach Reid. Hollands might end up at Bombers.
Kemp went to the Blues

Who do you take between Phillips and Thilthorp ? That's what it comes down to if North take Hollands most likely.. Assuming Crows take McDonald (also no certainty).

i would take Phillips because i have seen a lot of games and he is nearly always in the best handful on the ground (i believe Phillips has the potential to be the best player in this draft pool)

Thilthorpes form has been inconsistent, i know he has had Osteitis Pubis problems this year and was out for the champs with injuries last year (so he has already been injury prone prior to the draft), i liked what he did in certain plays this year and last year in the SANFL, but he never dominated or showed he could dominate a game, his strengths are his contested marking, endurance running and decent ground ball pick up, he is a bit like Matthew Kruezer, good without being great.

Would love to see an updated poll as it now appears its down to Phillips, Hollands and Perkins
Might be worth the mods adding Perkins to the poll too. I've changed my mind on who we should pick so many times now its not funny. I just want whoever we take to light it up for us and not be a bust. Any one of Phillips, Hollands or Perkins will be great so lets just hope we nail the pick if we go with a mid.

With what has happened in 2020 plus the state of our list, this is IMO the draft to take the blue chip stock with 4, not the potential for best ROI stock.

I think the reason the 3 talls are all in the top 5 is exposed form, Phillips as he's the best mid available who played last year and Hollands on potential and X factor.

In any other year, Hollands and or Perkins could be the Bont or Oliver who jumped up the order after a great year but this isn't the case this year for different reasons

If McDonald, DGB, Thilthorp are there I think we'd take them on exposed form and then it seems like Phillips, whose been the consensus standout inside mid.
Although not advocating taking a risk on Perkins, I'd prefer him as opposed to Hollands. Hollands won't play until mid 2021 so from a list perspective, getting a mid like Phillips in this year and then another top 5, from a draft that will be analysed to death and is supposedly stacked with Mids would be ideal if we can't get one of the above mentioned talls

That’s good enough for me.

I have gone from hedging my bets to now wanting him and thinking “Get it done Hawks”

The kid melted my heart when he was quoted as saying “My dream result would be to be to be picked up by the Hawks”

Phillips is looking like a very good decision the longer I think about it. Just on his own merit he sounds like he could be an elite mid for the best part of the next 15 years. But imagine putting someone with his talent, work ethic, and desire to learn and improve in front of Sam Mitchell from day one. I'd predict a meteoric rise and with the professionalism he's apparently already showing with his preparation, recovery, and personal development he's probably the safest bet in terms of picking a draftee who's most likely to reach 300 games.

Hollands sounds good too but I'm doubting the difference in their talent and potential is so great that is justifies overlooking the greater risk that's coming from the knee recovery (which may have set him way back - we can't know yet) and suggestions that his attitude and professionalism towards his recovery wasn't as high as you'd expect.

I agree.

As much as Holland’s sounds like he could be a gun I just don’t want us taking on a kid that is coming off an ACL.

We already have Impey and Sic coming off them and combined with Tommy Mitchell’s horrible leg break, I just want someone fit a ready to go from day one.

Adelaide are supposed to be making their decision on their choice today.
I reckon when Cal puts out his mock draft on Monday we will have a really good idea of how the chips will fall for the top 10.

They have no idea. None. Even Cal is behind the 8 ball. Why? Coz the clubs are still figuring it out.

The top order could flip the night before the draft. It's that unknown.
At least we get a pretty good indication of which journalists actually know their job, and have reliable sources : )
Agree. I get the feeling our midfield still needs another ball winner. I won't be surprised if we take him.

No doubt Phillips is a little bull, with the kind of breakaway speed we don't have, and super ball winning abilities.

The trick will be whether our recruiters want more size in there.

Howe has made us look much better at times just by virtue of his bulk/strength/height, despite having limitations as an AFL player.

It's first world problems territory we're currently in having such an early pick. Going to be super exciting for all of us to see how this plays out no matter who our favourite is.

In theory the best player might come from anywhere. Could be a genuine Nat Fyfe/Chris Grant/James Hird type draft year. That would really be something if we are on the right end of it.
We lack size and depth, more than quality. A bit of speed wouldn’t hurt either. There was clearly more to our performances in the hub than lack of talent.

A slick, explosive mid with size or Perkins come on down!

I agree with your saying regarding Phillips and Thilthorpe.

The only thing with Thilthorpe is the guy is over 200cm but he looks like another midfielder. Other JUH he probably has the most upside.

By the way do you think delisted Ollie Lord oz worth a look?

Connor Nash can’t kick half as well as Perkins can already, and doesn’t have his hands and game sense.
More Trent Croad than Connor Nash, but with much higher footy IQ than Croad at this stage. Similar athleticism.
Taz reply was because I had Phillips in one of the sentences instead of Perkins. I later edited it.

I know that I've been saying that if we choose to keep Pick 4 then I really hope that we choose this kid, but he keeps continuing to win me over more each and everytime I hear him speak.

Not only is he the best mid in this year's draft but he seems dedicated, hard working, kind and no doubt future captain material.

I'm thinking more along the lines of bugger trading out Pick 4 and just lock him in now.

If we're able to obtain Bailey Laurie at 24 as well that'd be absolutely fantastic.

Combined with Connor Downie and a couple late gems we're heading in the right direction - although I do believe we'll be in the bottom 4-6 again.

Get it done GM and MM and make it snappy 😎

i dont know much about Ollie Lord other than he was a project tall at Sandringham.

He played as much Perkins last year at the Dragons (no.59). I see him as a bigger and more athletic version of Gunston. Even played bits in the ruck due to his leap.

Carlton took him as a rookie pick last year but delisted him. As I watching Perkins I thought he'd be a good fit for us.

POSITION: Key Forward

DRAFT ANALYSIS: “An athletic tall forward who is confident aerially, Lord looms as a key position prospect with great upside.” – Michael Alvaro

There may well be a few clubs seeking for long-term key forward replacements at this year’s AFL Draft, and Ollie Lord is one of the many candidates putting his hand up for selection. The Sandringham Dragons product boasts great athleticism, using his speed off the mark and vertical leap to time some eye-catching marks inside forward 50. He is the grandson of former Geelong champion and Brownlow Medallist, Alistair Lord, and continues his family’s ties to the region as he boards at Geelong Grammar. It means he has also played a lot of his football in the APS system, managing five NAB League outings in between his commitments there. But squeezing into the stacked Dragons side of 2019 is no mean feat, and Lord’s appearance in Vic Metro’s Under-17 squad, his Futures All-Stars selection, as well as a National Draft Combine invite this year all suggest he is certainly on the AFL radar.
