Interesting O’Driscoll at 19.
I still want Hollands at 3/4.
However if we got McDonald/Thilthorpe/Grainger-Barras at 3/4 and managed to get O’Driscoll with a late first rounder (traded up from 21) that would be a great great great draft.
In what world do you think we'll get pick 3 or 4??

In a world we have pick 4 atm as it stands. No certainty to win tonight at all. Only 4 games left. No reason swans / Roos can’t win a game on run home. Could be 5/6? Could be 3/4.

Will Day was 25 in Cal's first phantom draft in July last year.

The South Australian prospect has been one to rise up the draft rankings across the season. Scouts were keen to see how he would step up at championships level and he more than held his own, generally playing across half-back for his side. Day, who is the cousin of Gold Coast forward Sam Day, is rangy but has plenty of scope. Comes from an elite baseball background as a youngster.

We won't be picking 4th after academy and NGA bids if the ladder stays the same way. We will probably be picking 6-7 :-(

If this could be considered accurate, then based on the ladder as it currently stands and a priority pick for Adelaide I'd expect to see...

1. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (matched by WBD)
2. Logan McDonald (ADL priority pick)
3. Riley Thilthorpe (ADL)
4. Denver Grainger-Barras (NM)
5. Elijah Hollands (SYD)
6. Braeden Campbell (matched by SYD)
7. Tanner Bruhn (HAW)

Without an Adelaide priority pick...

1. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (matched by WBD)
2. Riley Thilthorpe (ADL)
3. Logan McDonald (NM)
4. Denver Grainger-Barras (SYD)
5. Braeden Campbell (matched by SYD)
6. Elijah Hollands (HAW)

Without an Adelaide priority pick AND North bid on Campbell...

1. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (matched by WBD)
2. Riley Thilthorpe (ADL)
3. Braeden Campbell (matched by SYD)
4. Logan McDonald (NM)
5. Elijah Hollands (HAW)

Basically I don't think the top key forwards we'd like are going to be available regardless. But wouldn't put it passed us picking up a KPD and trying to turn them into a KPF. But if the best we can hope for is Hollands then I'd be satisfied I think.

Maybe we try trading with North to get to McDonald? But I think they'd be keen to nab him.

But they were never coming to us, pretend they aren’t part of the Draft. We will have a top 4 pick not including JUH and Campbell.

Probably get my head bitten off, but O’driscoll looks slow and cumbersome to me.

I want speed, dynamic movement and flair in a top 5 midfielder.

In your third scenario (bolded) could we maybe trade 2nd rounders with North under the agreement they bid on Campbell to force Sydney to match. That would be pick 21 for pick 27 which means they move forward 6 spots with their 2nd rounder and we move back 6 spots. If this was to happen then yeah I could definitely see the draft going:

1. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (matched by WBD)
2. Riley Thilthorpe (ADL)
3. Braeden Campbell (matched by SYD)
4. Logan McDonald (NM)
5. Elijah Hollands (HAW)

The thing we have to understand is that outside of the Bulldogs what's to say that the Crows, Sydney and even North rate Hollands as #1 on their list. The only thing stopping him going #1 or #2 was that he did his ACL. Hollands is the kid I want us to get but outside of him either of those KPF would be awesome but if we'd have to settle then DGB could be the one.

Yes this is the way I look at it. I take them out and don’t include them.
If the Crows haven't bid on Campbell would you be against trading 2nd rounders with North to give them incentive to? North would be stupid to not use that as a power play for an incentive to IMO. That would mean our 2nd rounder goes from pick 21 to 27. I'd do it if it meant we had a chance to snag one of the top 5 kids.

Adelaide and North Melbourne better do their part and bid on the NGA prospects and not fu** us over...
This is the key.
Won’t really do much for us to be honest, the Dogs will be picking after us either way so a JUH bid early will o lay make them pay more but it won’t really help us.

Capmbell won’t really do much either, if a bid comes at 2 for him Sydney willl just trade back in the Draft and someone else will pick at 3.

You can't just trade pick 21 to 27 - all trades have to be approved

I really want McDonald. Sadly though, he will be gone by the time our first pick is called. I think he will be selected by North Melbourne with them likely to trade Ben Brown.

Entirely possible. I didn't want to delve in too deep as the order is likely to change before the end of the season and then of course there will be trading before the draft too. In general I'm assuming the key position players are going to be more attractive to these clubs than the midfielders.

So on face value I think McDonald or Thilthorpe (if Crows go McDonald) will be too enticing to both North Melbourne and Sydney relative to Campbell. Ultimately I think if this is the draft order then North won't want to risk Sydney not matching Campbell as I think there's a genuine chance Sydney might then decide to pass up matching and just take the KPF.

This is related to draft discussion but if North went McDonald, and we’re trying to ship Ben Brown off, I wonder if there was a scenario where we could get him via preseason draft. I know North would have pick higher than us but if the relationship totally broke down there could be a chance we get him for nothing. Question is do we want him

DGB. Do we want a key defender with our first pick? Surely we take the mid. Bruhn or Phillips??
I reckon you grab key defenders and ruckmen later in drafts (and ruckmen later in their careers) but so be it if he is the best left.

Looking less likely any of McDonald, Hollands or Thilthorpe will make it to us unless we slip a draft spot, which is a shame. They strike as the guys most likely to be lynchpin type players as opposed to cogs in the machine. Think our best bet is clubs overlooking Hollands given his injury history. Not uncommon with the earliest picks.

Interesting that he has Downie at 25. We'd want to get 2 picks in before a bid.

Agree. We won’t get these top 3 kids now.
