Spent the past few days focusing on Perkins and i like what i see, looks good. Big bonus is he has a clear opportunity to come in and play forward whilst developing as a player which is nice.

Hollands, Phillips, DGB, Thilthorpe, Perkins all look really good options. Not too concerned where we end up on Draft night.

so roughnlove reckons we are not into Hollands

i will flip out if we pick Zach Reid, huge bust potential with him.

i would like a tall if one is available (JUH, McDonald, DGB, Thilthorpe) or else Will Phillips (because even though our mids have been ordinary and an area of improvement we have to make, we have so many solid players there and Clarko is unlikely to make real changes once the season starts, so if we do go a mid early, he wont get games early until we lose enough to justify playing a better player over a more experienced player which is the trend we have seen in the last few years, that no matter how poorly an experienced player has played, he will not get dropped for a better younger talent until the season is a write off)

others we may look at are Archie Perkins (sml forw/Mid) Oliver Henry(Gunston type), Heath Chapman (CHB) or maybe a Tanner Bruhn?
How big of a reach do you see bruhn at 4? I’m a fan but not having played much in the past couple of years leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

His kicking looks weird and goes high. A lot to work with but I’m concerned about that aspect.

I definitely see that but he can kick 50+ still definitely not an awful kick.

Seems good in the air for his size and i love that every time he takes a mark he either turns and goes or is quick off his mark to move the ball on. Great instincts.

he is slow, he projects more as a very skinny ruck than defender, his disposal isnt as good as they claim, i rewatched footage recently, he got under 10 disposals and he had 3-4 clangers and not 1 was what i would call quality, he has never dominated a game in the u18's and you want that to justify potential imo, because he is so tall he can be unco sometimes, if you have watched him you will see this.

his positives are he can ruck tap, he can mark, but any 200+cm kid can and he can be competitive.
Jeez Davo-27 between you and sven_inc I'm starting to think we should just trade pick 4 for another teams 2021 1st rounder 🤪

The info that both you guys provide is much appreciated wether it be watching these kids in person or picking out bad body mechanics you'd rather just hear it straight up like you guys do rather than after the fact when it doesn't help anyone.

This 12-13 day wait till the draft is going to be excruciating but I'm sure our team has Plan A, B, C, D etc at the ready depending on how things fall. It's no secret that I want us to take Hollands but after Sven's review on his body mechanics especially after the innocent nature of his ACL injury I can't lie in that its definitely made me open to us looking elsewhere. This is why I try not to get too attached to any specific player because 99% of the time the team doesn't draft who you want anyways.

The perfect scenario could very well end up being:

Pick 1: Ade - Thilthorpe
Pick 2: North - Hollands
Pick 3: Sydney - DGB
Pick 4: Hawthorn - McDonald

If McDonald falls into our laps do we take him and run or do we bend Dodo over a barrel and demand picks 6, 7 and 8 for 4 & 24? If he want's McDonald as desperately as has been reported and okays that trade then he gets his wish and whomever the heck they want with 24 leaving us a pretty decent selection of choices.

The rest of the draft could go:

Pick 4: Ess - McDonald
Pick 5: GC - Phillips?
Picks 6, 7 & 8: Hawthorn* - leaving us a choice of Perkins, Bruhn, Henry, Jones, Chapman, Macrae, Reid

*In this scenario what 3 players would we likely take? Oh and I need to make it clear that all this could only happen if McDonald slides to us and how badly Dodo wants him.

Oh, I'm happy to grab him! I just wish his bits and pieces moved better and it wasn't the thing I always focus on haha.

We all do.

I hope to god I am wrong but his lack of effort to me screams delisted, within the next couple of years.

Playing hurt this year - general effort is there, however, needs to be able to work through the niggles a bit better like most others in the team

Trust me, I would love to be able to ask any of the forwards this year how they felt playing with our game plan and method of forward entries and how much harder it made their job.

Id also love to tell them how much more successful i think they'd be with faster ball movement..doubt they'd disagree.

Of course better ball movement helps any forward line I'm not debating that.

I just don't think Patton will be success here and that the trade will be a bust, thought it at the time and seen nothing to change my mind. Excuses like lack of pre season is what I was initially responding to when I pointed out Patton had a 9 month pre season which was longer than anyone in the league.

I think he will do ok, but i also think he needs to trim down a bit. I still feel like he was carrying a bit too much weight last year.

I'm also really excited to see what McRae has planned for our forward line. I really hope Clarko sort of hands the reigns over to him in terms of how the fwds set up and operate. Im not sure how much freedom the assistant coaches are given?

I'm not sure he's capable of trimming down anymore than he already has tbh.

Anyways only 9 days to the draft and I'm so curious to see who we select, no Hollands makes it very interesting.

Can you imagine the pressure building on our recruiting team right now ?
First time, in a long time, we have a high draft pick. We cannot afford to stuff it up.

The added ‘stinger’ is - do you consider trading pick 4 for 2 first round picks ?
Do that and the spotlight will intensify greatly, as those picks will need to both come off or you’ve missed an opportunity to draft a ‘Top 5’ star.

At pick 4, will we play safe and take best available or will we slightly reach for a player we deem to ‘rise like the Phoenix’ ?

Glad the draft is getting closer BUT my sphincter is getting rather twitchy - can’t imagine what McKenzie & Wright are feeling right now.....how many times would they have changed their minds !?!?!?

Can’t wait. We get this right & No. 14 is closer than we think.

All they can do is pick a player with the intel they've accrued - it's up to the coaches to educate and develop them once they walk through Waverley's doors.

No Hollands? I must have missed where it's rumored we're not interested?
He was the one i personally liked at pick 4. Damn.

The COVID break came at the worst time for Patton. He was fit and in good shape.

He wasn't setting the world alight in the first 4 matches but if people want to keep clinging to that ok.

Bring on 2021 Johno.

It's on very good authority in here that Hollands won't be our guy even if available at 4.

Do we know who our preferred might be if available ?
Assuming the three talls are gone, do we use pick 4 on Phillips, or Perkins or do we trade out ? I can see us trading our four for GCS five and their 2021 first and grab Perkins at 5, assuming GCS are desperate for Phillips. Meaning Hollands goes to Essendon. That would be a good result.

Yeh he is so so skinny but for the most part I thought he looked coordinated for how big and gangly he is atm. Has absolutely no 1v1 strength , looks way more promising when he gets a clear run at the ball to spoil or mark it . You're right about his kicking, he's more capable of hitting a target then being a good kick . I suppose he's all potential rather then output but I can see why clubs may like him , do we know how he went in pre season when he was at the club ?.
