so on the Podcast on the Hawks website, Mark McKenzie said we are planning to take 4 picks at the draft, leaving a spot open for some players to train and earn a spot and maybe a rookie because we have 6 open list spots i believe.

he hinted 3 picks definitely with a possible 4th pick if the right player was available, expecting that the 4th pick would come late matching Downie's bid most likely.

From all the reading I’ve been able to gather, the closest Phillips comparison I’ve been able to draw a line to who’s played in Hawks colours is Crawf - is this about right or am I off base a little?

I can't think of anyone at Hawthorn that reminds of me him massively.

Plays a lot like Luke Shuey/Lachie Neale/Zak Butters.
Controls the tempo of the midfield.

No thanks for Phillips....too much same same as O'Meara, Mitchell and Worpel for mine.
It's either Hollands (think he goes to North at 2 though) or taking Perkins as a stretch.
Happy to pass on Phillips (and Thilthorpe for that matter) for Archie Perkins upside (similar to what the Dogs did with Bontempelli in his draft year and that turned out well for them).
I see Phillips as a bit of a bust at AFL level if taken inside the top 5....I've seen it far too often with his type of midfielder not really progressing to AFL level.
Thilthorpe to be the slider to Essendon on the night.

Priorities:

Elijah Hollands
Archie Perkins

Brodie's a little old for a draftee isn't he? ;)

Don't you think Dutchie is a bit old?

It all swings both ways though. Perkins hasn't got the proven performance, especially in the midfield. He's a gun athlete with great attributes but he could just as easily be the next Gary Rohan rather than the next Bont. I'd be very surprised if Phillips is a bust.

Luke Ball prior to injury

Out of curiosity who is your comparison to Phillips for being a bust?

A Jimmy Toumpas/Jono O'rourke type who never looks comfortable and is gone within 4 years?

Or a Jack Billings type who will be a solid 200 game footballer but will always be a 'bust' due to being taken a pick before the Bont?

As in just a good honest solid contributor rather than a standout top 5 drafted star.
My original post probably not worded that well when suggesting he’d be a “bust”. What I’m trying to say is that I think he will become a similar type to a Seb Ross
