Howdy Hawks,

The Carlton board ran a phantom draft and I had Hawthorn.

You ended up with

Pick 5 - Riley Thilthorpe (I was close to picking Will Phillips but I think you need another key fwd/ruck).
Pick 24 - Eddie Ford - like a budget Jack Riewoldt (luckily Downie wasn't bid yet)
Pick 41 - Connor Downie - matched bid
Pick 43 - Corey Durdin - small mid, masquerading as a small fwd. Tiny, but tough, like a young Puopolo.

I didn't set out to focus on the forward line, it just worked out that way.

What do you think? Would you be happy with that outcome? What would you do differently?

well if the media are right, then i guess its welcome Logan McDonald, something like 5/7 media phantoms has us take Logan McDonald at 5... the other 2 have us taking Riley Thilthorpe btw
I'm very happy with MacDonald. I know you want Phillips but surely you'd still be happy with MacDonald wouldn't you?

Was about to reply to the above comment. Hodge was added to a prelim side. Rebuild started around roughy and buddy.

A prelim side that couldn't even make the finals the following year. I attended every Hawks (including some away) in 2001, I'm pretty sure I know where we were in terms of contending.

Hell No.
Only way we deal our pick 4 with Adelaide involves their 2021 first + 9.
I definitely can envisage a pick swap Kangas Pick 2 for GC pick 5 & their 2021 first.. Kangas would like their chances to get Hollands and GC are interested in McDonald. Will be an interesting night....

I don't think anyone will be disappointed with McDonald as a player, it's more FOMO. Listen to GW today he said he'd wish he had two pick in the top 5. The thing with Phillips he has a unique skill set nobody else has.

Thank fu** I have a day off work.

Last year on draft day I got caught 3 times on my phone posting in the draft day thread and we only had pick 13.

I can only imagine what I would be like at work today with us having pick 4.
Go home early feeling sick in the guts? :)

I'm all in on that.

In another phantom draft I took Bruhn, Laurie (was between him and Ford), matched a Downie bid and took Ginnivin after missing out on Durdin. Not too dissimilar in approach. I passed on Thilthorpe though.

You can't possibly expect them to do that because it is most likely Pick 1 in a supposed superdraft and almost definitely a top 3

depends how much they want the player available 🤷🏻‍♂️

where next years ends up is at best a guess, and if we’ve got our own targets at 4 that we really like it’s gotta be worth our time

Here's my trade for Hawthorn

Adelaide Pick 9 & 23 & Melbourne 2nd Round 2021 pick for Hawthorn Pick 4

Do you do it?

4 to 9 is just too much of a downgrade in this pool. A lot of teams are trying to trade out of the 15-30 range of the draft so a pick there and a future second doesn't justify that drop imo.

Sounds like Hawthorn won't split their pick but if they did it would have to be for multiple goes in the 6-15 range or one pick there and a decent-to-okay future first.

Adelaide rightly shouldn't entertain giving away their future 1st so unless they got another first round pick from a different team to package with 9, it doesn't make sense from a value perspective.

I wouldn't do it but if Adelaide traded their 22 and 23 for a Collingwood future 1st, then offered 9 and the future 1st for 4, that would be closer to the mark.

If we end up taking a KPP with 4, I really hope we find a way to get another pick before Downie.
It sounds like next year we're going to have access to an elite mid with our first pick, so I wouldn't be surprised if we're willing to move on later picks from next year to try and creep up this year to grab a first round quality player who might have more versatility.
