We most likely won’t but we took ports money to play there and that could have had a bigger impact on both sides than this swap. At least we know the result will be the same wherever they play.

Just thought it was interesting.
Would be nice to get a home again against Port at Marvel for a change.

The difference between China which is an AFL sanctioned promotional match designed to expand the reach of the league on neutral soil. Rich clubs buying home games from poor clubs sets a ridiculously bad precedent. It starts slippery slope into Premier League territory where the rich clubs just buy their success.

Port are still buying it off us. Surely you aren’t taking anything that happens this year regarding the fixture as a precedent.

7 ST KILDA
Played 14, 32 pts, 113.3 per cent

TO COME

R15: Bye

R16: Hawthorn, Metricon Stadium, Sun Sep 6 (W)

R17: West Coast, Gabba, Thurs Sep 10 (L)

R18: GWS, TBC (L)

WE SAY: The Saints have let two great opportunities slip in as many games, with narrow losses to Brisbane in Round 13 (two points) and Melbourne in Round 14 (three points). The loss to the Demons made for three losses from St Kilda’s past four games and leaves the club in a vulerable position. Brett Ratten’s side needs at least one more win — but more likely two — to play finals, but faces a tough run home. You’d expect St Kilda to take care of Hawthorn in Round 16, but then they might still need to beat one of West Coast or Greater Western Sydney in the final two rounds. As it stands, I can’t see the Saints winning either of those two games and therefore have them finishing ninth.

PREDICTED FINISH: 9th
Exactly what I said. I say it and I'm having a sook and writing us off too early. What about when unbiased media say the same thing? No more sugar coating it. This will be one of our biggest failures if we are not able to play finals from the position we were in, and those defending the club at this time must be in denial of how bad we really are letting this season slip away.

Hate to think of the financial impact of missing

It will hurt us that is certain.

I just cannot believe how three games will potentially cost us our season. Losing to Collingwood & Geelong was fair enough - we were soundly beaten. Losing to Brisbane I could take given they are a top four side and it was on their deck. But the three losses to Melbourne, North Melbourne and Fremantle are just inexcusable. In the unlikely event that we will make finals this year, I hope it doesn't paper over some of the cracks. We seriously need to work on our resiliency. These excuses about us being a young side don't make much sense to me when you consider the positions we were in in both the Fremantle and North Melbourne games. Two catastrophic collapses that have now attributed to the position we find ourselves in.

We have been better this year but some of the same themes still appear.

The AFL are desperate for money and bleeding cash. I think their ethics are quite flexible at the best of times.

They are the ones that stick in people's mind when we are struggling. No-one remembers the misses if we are doing well. If the club wants us to forget the mistakes they just have to start being so good that we don't care. When we are crying out for top talent and you talked yourself out of it it sucks.

We are doing well Gringo.

A disappointing loss doesn’t change that.

We are doing better, even I can concede that. Not well enough to not look back over our shoulders at Petracca yet though. Make finals and I'll be happy. They have three more chances at it now. It's up to this playing group to decide where they want to go. They are good enough to do it, but they can't be happy with almost good enough.

I know it's hard to stomach after a decade out of finals, and l want us to make it as much as the rest of you, but l think you're too hung up on finals and setting yourself up for 6 month depressive tantrum.

If do we miss finals, then we'll be roughly where the optimistic estimates had us placed. Disappointing to miss, but not disastrous.

I think internally the coaching group will have ticked evey box they'd set themselves at the start of the year.
This season was always going to be about who's gonna take us forward in 2021 and beyond, and that's job done already.

Finals is the hot girl at the bar that's completely out of your league.
If you chase after it, you're guaranteed to be disappointed.
If you relax, you could be pleasantly surprised.

We did everything right though and driving home in the Uber with our hot lady, we leant on the door and fell out on the road.

When the season wraps up I can reflect on the positives. You never expect linear improvement, after 1997 we know that you have to take your chances when they come. Careers come and go with out another chance at it. Jack Steven is just about done and has never played a final so far. It's time to stop being satisfied by almost. Even Richo got us there and we've invested big to move beyond that. If I'm Ratts I'd be ****ed off.

A few people have said we need another small fwd.

We don't need another one, we already have one playing out of position.

Jack Billings isn't going to be a A grade midfielder who's played behind the ball for 90% of games.

He should be playing the high half fwd role and switching with butler as the small deep fwd.

Billings literally can win games off his own boot when played forward.

He should be basically playing him 80% fwd and 20% in the middle.... Like petracca.

I feel like his talent is being wasted at the moment.

The only issue with that is... JB’s best games, the ones that he has had a massive influence in, have all been when he has played as a midfielder (excl the comeback v the Dogs 5 years ago).

He’s had two poor games (well played one very good quarter out of the past 8) but has been consistently good to very good all season. Bris really locked down on him, I can’t bring myself to re-watch Saturday’s disaster so I can’t recall if Melb did the same. Point is, players have form slumps, JB needs a big game this week to stop his.

In a team that is shallow in the midfield there’s no way I’d be throwing the baby out with the bathwater yet.

Don't get me wrong, JB has good games as a mid but I think he'd have better games when fwd of the ball.

Have hunter Clarke step into JB's role now and put JB fwd for hind/Kent. Just doing that is an upgrade.

I agree.. Billings is not a wingman.. he should play half forward like Butler.. his disposal is actual quite average.. another one who seem to miss targets regularly unless it’s a sideway chip pass..

I need to make a few changes to the game plan:
1. Good kicks should be moved to midfield:
Coffield, Clark.. Add Webster, Savage who can both rebound well..

2. Get speed into the backline.. and I’m not talking about Long, move Hind to half back and just ask him to use his wheels all game like Saad. Out Long or Geary.

3. Get rid of the bomb down the line game plan.. hug the boundary, get our half forwards to constantly provide leads and get our wings Hill, Philips and half back flankers to support with overlapping runs..

4. Make sure our forward line is not flooded. King and our forwards will not win too many contests being out numbered constantly. The out the back strategy has not worked since the game against Sydney.. we need a plan B

You say get rid of the bomb down the line game plan, if thats the case Savage doesn't play
