This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

There was media talk about Alex. Can't see it with Mason.
If we’re looking at these names, might as well look at Wylie Buzza as a rookie. Few good games at Geelong, rookied at Port, but I think dropped off again because of list size.
Showed a bit & might mature with age, but at least would be a target & give us coverage.

My preference for draft night at this stage is to go for Cox, if he gets picked before us (big chance IMO with Essendon) then I'd have some live trade options ready to get a couple of picks around 20 and take both Baldwin (low low floor, high ceiling) and Callow (high floor, low ceiling)

I want a ban on people wanting a ban on people suggesting one of Pearce, Hamling, Cox or Logue should play forward. We have tried so many times for the "messiah trade" for a KPF and anything we can draft with our picks will be years away from delivering - let's develop one of our own.

EDIT:

We could try this guy - he fits the age profile and is perfect size for a KPF.

I'd be wary of messing with Cox's mojo after he's just got established in the team in that defensive role he's talked about being much more comfortable in. Maybe after another season (or if desperate half a season) to really consolidate and have him feel like he belongs at the level. I'd be more inclined for Logue (if fit) to go in the midfield and have extra rotations of Fyfe, Mundy as extra taller options for at least next season.

if we can't i'd be all for getting someone like Ford/Perkins if still there, to get another dangerous forward option (even if not as tall as hoped) to add with Sturt/Henry/maybe Frederick

Yeah, quite possibly arsesmart - I think either / both of them would be worth a try. I like Cox there because other than his set shot kicking for goal I thought he was outstanding as a forward in 2018 - and hopefully his kicking will have improved! I also believe that all of Pearce, Hamling and Logue are better defensive options than Cox, but that is just based on "dem feels" :)

I just think we need to try things out next year when (if) we have too many tall defenders and not enough tall forwards.

Maybe having them all available to all be out on the park at once might be a little more unlikely than likely next year, but if the case then developing Cox in defence would also have value for the team. His potential offers something like if Pearce and Ryan accidentally stepped into a teleportation machine together and fused varying attributes into one person. There's definitely merit in the idea, but probably could use a little more established development on his current path I reckon to shore things up, before deviating to other challenges.

I thought that this was the good news story??

Looking forward to sitting back with the popcorn and watching the drama unfold around other clubs for a change.
The other clubs for a change? We just made one of the biggest losses and worst trades in the modern era. hate to break it to you but we are the ones being watched while people eat their popcorn with this move.

Surely Mundy going around again is no significant impact on the salary cap. Wouldn't a portion of his salary be covered as a part of the vet list?

Front-ending of contracts might be the biggest factor in the current salary cap space (if true). It's fuller now but eases as the years roll on (in theory), allowing a war chest for re-signings and potential poaching.
Vet list doesn’t exist anymore

Intersting read. Would like to know what his results were
I saw him in the final. Big guy that isn't a great set shot usually but kicked a good one. Not a great sample size but he doesn't look agile enough. Happy for others to have an input here.
Hale coach Jason Norrish, who played 128 games for the Dockers, described Miller as a mobile key forward with a good, long kick and a great set of hands.

Sounds good, get him on the list.

Edit: Just realised that article is 5 years old. I changed my mind.

Intent is there but i dont think he has the physical attributes to make it at the next level

He does things every now and then that make you go wow but i dont think it is enough.

Baring the game against Adelaide where he kicked 4 he’s useless as a forward
And regardless what you think of Hale he doesn’t rate Cox as a forward and doesn’t want him anywhere near there.
