So those who said Polson and Macreadie were no good were on the money.

Rumours Geelong are interested in Macreadie and the only thing some of our other kids have over Polson at the moment is a reputation from u18 football. I personally would’ve persisted with both.

Didn’t see enough of Phillips to comment and Moore I’m happy to see go provided we recruit some KPP depth to replace him. Austin has found some gems in the later rounds at the Dogs so will back him in. I think McCarthy just got slightly more real too.

Article on the AFL website is far clearer:

However, Kennedy – who spent the recent Trade Period waiting to see if he would earn a contract extension depending on list sizes – will be retained, with Carlton confirming it would select the former first-round pick in the upcoming NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Interesting developments with the list today. Thought Polson was in trouble but thought Macreadie may stay given the rumour was we knocked back rival interest (Geelong).

I really hope the club commits to listing the maximum 42 players (not including category B rookies) across both the senior and rookie list, and does not opt for some lesser number.

If we factor in that the club has committed to elevating Gibbons to the senior list and drafting Kennedy in the rookie draft, we have space for 4 more players to be added across the senior and rookie lists. We’ve got the options of adding 3 to the senior list and 1 to the rookie list, 2 to each list, or 1 to the senior list and 3 to the rookie list.

Suspect this means we take two kids in the draft. From there it will be interesting to see if the club has a delisted free agent in mind or will just go with two rookies.

Not really surprised by the moves, slightly disappointed about Kennedy & Macreadie though.
Hopefully it means we're looking to draft a couple of KPP to develop behind the existing options.

So we had 46 on the list including Owies as a Category B rookie.

Two players retired and another eight delisted.

We've added Williams, Saad and Fogarty which means we've got 38 + Owies.

Am I correct in saying list sizes will be 38 + 4 rookies excluding Cat B?

Means we've got up to four list spots to fill at the draft.

Unless we pick up a DFA? There's better quality than usual this year with the shrinking list sizes.

If there's a decent DFA on the market, I'm not against us offering them a contract, however, we should limit the DFA's to one. We're starting to build a bit of depth now. We're not as desperate for these players as we once were.

Then take two in the draft and leave one list spot open. Invite a handful of undrafted prospects we had our eye on to train with us over the summer, then select the one we want.

I assume Levi will be KPD depth.

We have good KPF depth with Harry Charlie JSOS McGovern TDK. Cripps will spend more time forward I suspect.

Yeah if Jones or Weitering get injured, swinging Cas to defence is probably our plan B.

Some here will disagree but in a pinch and as essentially plan C, I think Marchbank could be used...don't think he'd offer any less as a KPD than Macreadie at least. This is only if 2 of Jones/Weitering/Casboult can't play for some reason.

Also hopefully we do pick up a mature KPD on the cheap though to round off our list before next year.

I guess having O McDonald on a really cheap, short term contract just for KPD depth in case of emergency might be OK...the issue was he was in Melbourne's best 22 for a long time and just not up to it.

Still, with BSOS/Goddard/Macreadie all gone we could do with another.
💯 only a break glass option. Hopefully we pick up some new kpp players after what we have delisted

Surprised to see HMac, Fraser and Polson axed. Moore was a fait accompli. Stoked to see Kennedy stay - too good to be cut.

Will wait for Cats to pick up HMac now and him to become a star.

Means we're actually in the market for some DFAs and maybe 2 x draftees by the looks (if I have my math right).

Really surprised about H Macreadie ...... zero defensive depth options ...

Fact of the matter is - Macreadie would still be on th elist if Comrade Gil wasn't utilising the '"Covid" excuse to cut list sizes.

I’d say your issue would be more with Danger as the players seemed to have chosen cutting list sizes rather than take a bigger pay cut.

Like the changes , polson , Moore , Phillips mcreadie just don’t have it

Kennedy is ok but playing 1 good game every 5 doesn’t cut it these days, decent rookie and thats

rather Austin have a crack with the unknown than these players
Would like a small forward , young ruckman , big brute defender and mature mid as our picks
