None of that really changes what I put forward.

We're playing weird little scratch matches right now and they have to be commented on as it's all we have, but -
I watched Polson this pre-season and there were still huge limitations on many aspects of his game and ability.

If somehow his kicking, game-awareness, defensive pressure have stepped-up enormously, then credit to him and the coaches.
It's rarely seen though and I can't name any aspect of his game that's above a 5/10.....but I haven't seen these practice matches live....so maybe.
Going to be honest, have not seen any footage of Polson this year. And only go if posts here. My biggest concern when he did play at senior level is that although, he had pace, he looked like he was running around like a headless chook with no sense of composure at all. Has he improved this part of his game? Decision making coming out of half back is a major requirement and I don't know if I could see Polson executing decisions and disposals under immense pressure.

worrying that Cottrell is getting a game in front of him

Philp looks a more likely type to me and the wraps on Kemp are considerable.
Both could be suited to a wing next season.
Point is, they can’t all play seniors so better to identity who is expendable and move them on for what we really need.

Cottrell has something that philp and kemp dont have - elite running ability. Maybe LOB has similar but he is not getting a game in front of cottrell. Is it cottrells size and aggression as well as the running ability that the MC likes?

We have plenty of young midfield talent, they can’t all play seniors.
Just as an example, next season we may well be wanting to play Kemp and Philp and the wing would be a very suitable starting point for them.
O’Brien is expendable to us and could facilitate our small forward needs.
Without wanting to pot O’Brien :
I always look at players and ask myself, can i see this bloke standing up on the MCG in September ? I’m certainly not convinced with him ... just my opinion.

let his light frame fill out a bit more then make a call

Yes, there are obviously parts of Cottrell’s game the MC like, so much so that he is getting games in preference to O’Brien.
With so much talent on the list, the smart play is to trim the excess and parlay it into what we really need ...

We still need to have reserves.

So long as we don't think we're picking up a bargain, because that player isn't playing so well at his current club, but somehow we think we'll make them better.

I don't want a previous high-selected player along the lines of Schache, Hogan, McCarthy, Wright, O'Rourke, Pickett, Toumpas, Ahern type.
In most instances when a player isn't performing, there's a good reason for it. Steer clear of these players.

Trade out no one unless some of our youngsters want to be traded home.
Get Williams F/A
This and next year's first for Kelly with a next year second coming back

Wouldn't trade TDK for Papley and two firsts.

Watching a bit of Papley this year has looked very selfish and undisciplined at times. Still a gun.

But I'll keep TDK.

Correct. He's a selfish player.

There are big moments where this is extremely obvious.

Example from a few weeks back: At the 1 minute 45 mark of this clip, he had the option to handpass the ball to Elijah Taylor, apply a block and create an easy team goal. Instead he just runs in and kicks it himself. This one has really stuck in my mind.

A good player not thinking about his own stats would have brought others into the game.

It may not seem like much, but bringing others into the game can improve their confidence and output for the remainder of the game. Good teams and players both recognise and do this. Papley right now looks like a player seeking a bigger contract.

Screams of a player frustrated with his current situation!!

Kane Cornes on Tom Papley:

"Just 2 goals in his last 4 games Tom Papley and he's frustrated."

"He's got to be a bit careful Tom Papley. I've been a little bit confused by his tactics of trying to milk free kicks in recent weeks and trying to go down that path."

Lol bulldogs would trade Dunkley for Charlie so fast it's not funny

Of course they would. Dunkley is good, but he's a classic meat and potatoes type inside midfielder. Nothing particularly special about his game, can find his type in every draft.

From The Old Dark Navy's in the Bluemour thread:

- Other players that we have spoken to:
B McKay (Well Harry has)
B Crouch
T Viney
C Blakely
J Caldwell

Yes please to trying to acquire Caldwell. I really liked him in the 2018 draft class. Hopefully nicely discounted similar to Setterfield with the issues Caldwell has had.

He's going to be elite.

Tough and hard at the contest. Made for September football.

Don’t see any way GWS lose both Williams and Kelly.
They have intentionally stockpiled great midfield depth with list management in mind.
This year, they need to re sign Cameron and Williams.
By cashing in Kelly now, who is a FA next year, they free the cap space for Cameron and Williams and use the draft picks to restock with elite young talent from the draft and so the cycle continues.
It’s just good list management.

Isn't L Hunter on the outer for the Dogs?

25 yrs old, midfielder we need. can play that 2nd/3rd string mid we lack...

what would he cost?

There was some talk a few weeks back that he was looking to leave, but I think they shut that door pretty quickly.

Reckon he’ll stay but if there is any truth to him looking elsewhere, we should absolutely be interested. Very interested.
