Would love to see TDK played as a full time ruckman in the VFL to accelerate his ruck skills. Unfortunately Pittonet will get most of the ruck duties. Both Levi and Liam can cover for Kreuzer in the seniors.

Not sure Papley should be on our radar. Sydney would want too much. Don't want another McGovern trade where we paid overs. There are still opportunities for cheap acquisitions of players who meet our strategic needs.

My first priority would be to lure Zac Williams across as a restricted free agent without sacrificing our draft pics. Someone with pace elite foot skills is exactly what we need. He also offers us the versatility of playing off half back as well as form part of our midfield rotation. Can you imagine Zac kicking it to our forwards? Lets throw some decent cash at him we saved away for Coniglio.

If we cant land him my next target would be De Goey who is out of contract. He has match winner written all over him and will only get better. Will cost s but as he is uncontracted we can at least negotiate on price with Collingwood.

Other uncontracted players for targetting would include Cockatoo and Parfitt from Geelong and Fritsch and Hunt from Melbourne.

Friday afternoon I would have agreed with you on Papley but after watching him in navy blue and kick 5 goals and IMO was the 2nd best player after Dusty. If he's still keen to come to us than he's our number 1target 100%.

Williams is a underrated player and would adlot to our team. More than Coniglio or Shiel.

De Goey is probably the best player out of contract than fits our needs but I would go for Papley 1st.

It'll be a big win for the club if we land Papley or De Goey and Williams.

What ever happened to McAdam? Didn't even play a game last year. Thought he was one who was supposed to be able to okay a game straight away?

Yet to debut at senior level, but the way some on here talk of him, you would think he is a seriously good footballer.

Might get a chance for the Crows this year, given how many players they lost at the end of last season.

Papley has a few years to go in his current contract. That affects his price. We would have to pay premium to grab him in and make an offer too good to refuse to Sydney. Sydney no longer need our first round draft pick to secure Daniher as he is a restricted free agent and Papley is part of their long term plans.
Collingwood want De Joey but dont have a strong bargaining position. He is uncontracted and can walk into the PSD without a contract unlike Papley, so unless they can match Carlton's offer, they would have to accept less as part of a trade than what they would had hoped for had he been contracted. Collingwood would be restricted given the money they have just splashed out to retain Grundy. Not saying De Goey is a mercenary but didnt Eddie leave us for an extra $50,000 a year.
No he didn’t! He left because he was not wanted. Other players (his buddies) were also shown the door. He saw the writing on the wall. MM wanted his daisy and on a high salary.

So why was he offered a contract if he was not wanted? If you are an employer would you offer a contract to an employee you don't want in your organisation?

Not for all cases but for Eddie of course you would...when you are under paying them. I’m of the opinion MM wanted daisy and he was happy for Eddie to go if that’s what it was going to take.

Same way Tuohy was offered a contract? Because sometimes telling an established player with strong connections to the group that they're not wanted can cause internal issues, whereas telling them they're wanted, but the money needs to be "right" given the state of the list, puts the shoe on the other foot and presents a facade of the player being mercenary.

ooooh, I love a good conspiracy theory...

Here's another one, not really Carlton related although one did play for the NB's.....in the local footy down here, Dromana (yaaay) defeated Sorrento in the GF...Dromana being the local kids up against the very rich and well sponsored Sorrento, who draft ex AFL players for big coin.

I didn't realise until recently that Eddie M is a major sponsor of Sorrento FC.....and funnily enough after the grand final, Collingwood VFL signed up Dromana players Sam Geurts (19yo ruck who was BOG in the GF), and Sam Fowler who was with the NB's in 2017, and a ****ing gun small forward.

So, does Eddie see them as genuine AFL prospects, or just recruiting them so they won't be a hindrance to Sorrento winning the premiership in 2020
Slight correction there. Pies VFL have signed up W. Geurts ( Billy ) - he's actually the younger brother of Sam ( both ex Dromana).

Check out Will Brodie tearing the crows a new one... He looks good. Have wanted him the past 2 years. Think this year will be a major break out year for the kid.
I hate adelaide so much!

Suns peaking in March again. Fool me once shame on, shame on you. Fool me, can't get fooled again..

I miss dubya. One of the world's great comedians, just unaware of his own comedic genius.
yet ideally you don't want a moronic buffoon holding the nuke codes..................wait...........

If the season is called off, wondering how list management will be assessed, as well as potential draftees

Interesting times

How likely do you really think it is? I realise the AFL may be just hedging their bets re starting next week, but the following contingencies have already been mentioned:

- get rid of bye rounds

- 2 extra weeks in early October before cricket needs the MCG.

- shorter breaks between games. Shorter length games, presumably to assist with this.

- top-up players from outside current lists.

They are obviously factoring in players getting the virus with the top-up option. Fit AFL players will likely cope as well as anyone if they get sick - isolate them and back in 14-21 days - the same as would be the case for any of us who work. The on-flow risk to family etc. would be no different whether they were playing football or not. They could still catch it anywhere if they are not playing footy.

Biggest issue I suppose is if one/some clubs have a massive outbreak and can't field a team. I'm assuming that would mean mid-week catch-up games like they do in the EPL - hence the possibility of shorter breaks.

If there is a total shutdown of everything in coming weeks as has been mooted (including games) wouldn't that only have to last 14-21 days to be effective?
The best time for this in a football sense would be before the season started. However the AFL might figure that any game they can play before a shutdown, is one less they have to play upon resumption?

Probably the wrong thread, but it's tied in with everything at the minute.

You do realise that if say 4 players from different clubs get the virus, the whole side will be isolated for 14-21 days?

I guess anything is possible, but you wouldn't need an outbreak as such at one club. One player contracting the virus would mean a possible isolation of that whole club. Any club they played against, could/would be isolated

Put yourself in the player's position

Look I agree. I'm just trying to interpret the reasons for the various measures they have suggested might be used.

If a player felt unwell, they test him - positive - they isolate him. Probably depends a bit on how early in the week this happens. Then you test the rest after 2-3 days. Negative results, all goes ahead. The article Aph posted in the COVID 19 thread suggests the clubs will have their own testers on hand.

The isolation of a whole club would mean they couldn't play for 2 weeks. The games involving that club and their opponents would be rescheduled as mid-week games in the following rounds. It could get totally out of control and be unmanageable, but they appear to want to try.
