To me our draft picks over the next two years should be completely dispensable, it just really depends on how we use them, they won’t be enough to land both Papley and Kelly but if they’re used to get one I’m of them that’s a win for us.

I’d be leaning towards Kelly I think he’d have a Lachie Neale like lift

Kelly and Williams, for me.
Our forward line is doing really well, small forward with our first pick this year. Sure there is a good kid out there. Tigers have several good small forwards - didn't need the best in the league.

From memory we have the Northern Knights area. The Northern Knights have been terrible for a long time.
I think players moving to scholarship grammar schools is part of the reason but happy to be corrected.
I agree with getting rid of the NGAs as they just aren’t balanced and fair and the clubs are not developing these players but just naming them when they show some talent, but getting rid of father/sons is the wrong call from Lyon and his reasoning that the NBA and NFL don’t have it is just stupid, it is one of the great parts of our game having multiple generations playing for a club and let’s face it where would the Bulldogs be without father/sons, just kidding, not.

Could not agree more. Remember how pumped I was for Jacks first game. Father-son rule helps build club culture too.

I've been thinking for a few years we needed to draft a Ruckman. I actually really liked Callum Coleman-Jones who went to the tigers and is stuck behind a few. Would be nice to steal him :)..

TDK to me is more of a forward/Ruckman to me. I think we missed the boat in drafting a ruck considering how long they take to develop.

That being said plenty of very good sides have had very average Ruckman and won flags.

Hold on.

Pittonet is 24yo and has played 13 senior games...

Now, or next year, is the perfect time to draft a ruckman. By the time they're getting close to being physically ready, Pittonet is pushing 30 and we can start to interchange the two based on form/fitness.

And there's every chance TDK presents as a more athletic ruck option in the meantime should we need to go that way.

A top 10 pick should do it, but anything outside of the top 10 would probably require a bit more. Marchbank would be nice, though I doubt he would want to go back to Sydney. I think Papley's range is in the pick 5 to 10.
So you think potentially pick 10 alone could see the deal done? I see Carlton finishing around 9th-12th, so lets just say we end up having pick 10, i just dont see Sydney accepting just pick 10 for him. I'd think they'd want at the very least pick 10 + 3rd round pick, or pick 10 + a 2nd with a 3rd coming back our way.

Either way im happy with either deals, paps is a quality player that I'd love to have at Carlton. If a deal does not eventuate, then i hope you guys keep a hold on him.

Read a bit on here about Josh Honey as the potential small forward fix. What's the likelihood? From the very limited footage Ive seen he seems to finish poorly but other than that has that explosiveness and ability to win one-on-ones we like. Hows his pressure?

Honey isn't anywhere near as small as some may think; 184 & 79
There's some good size about him and seems to have the body to put on plenty of muscle, yet.
Honey has the ability to go through the centre also and his pressure is good from what I saw.

He has things to work on and kicking is one of them, but there's something about him that just tells you, he can make it.
That Draft Central write up on him finds the right word - Presence.

Brodie?

Let's stop reaching for former first rounders that are struggling at their club, but we'll somehow develop into good players.
Gorringe, Palmer, Smedts, Lamb, Sumner, Garlett, Jaksch, Kennedy, Goddard etc.
Plowman, Marchbank and Docherty are different, because their clubs didn't want to let them go.
There's little I've seen of Brodie since drafted, that made me thing - Really want him.

We don't need lots of players....Just the right ones.

A few we've brought in recently have looked good, Setterfield is looking like he will be a really good player for a long time, and Jack Martin although technically not a first round pick (absolutely would have been though) is looking like one of our best pick ups in years.

But they're players their clubs didn't want to lose. That was my point.
Brisbane didn't want to lose Docherty either, nor GWS losing Plowman and Marchbank.

Brodie seems to be a relative afterthought for Gold Coast.
He's a 'break glass in case of emergency' player, for them.

Essendon will want not one but two of these 'bigger-bodied' players. Dodoro has been told :)

For those interested:

The Papley hype is being blown out of proportion.

If Josh Kelly is potentially available this trade period, can't see how Papley is the most lucrative trade target.

So if his market value is now $1m per year, we'll most likely have to pay $1.2-$1.3m per year to pry him from Sydney. He could well end up being close to the highest paid player in the game. I personally don't have him anywhere near the top echelon of players in the AFL including Fyfe, Dangerfield, Martin, Grundy etc. but it seems like others do.

Need to be careful with a contract like this, as it's the type of contract that could cripple the club moving forward.

You could probably get a combination of Zac Williams and Brad Crouch for that money and not have to give up any picks either.

Yeah, I remember one of the practice/pre-season games at PP, having to look up who this kid that, like you said, had a presence.

Was obviously a little raw but felt like he’s one of those players that makes stuff happen when he’s involved. Hardly a runt, seemed to have a bit of wiry hardness to him, particularly for a young kid.

From my limited viewing my post game reaction was ‘there’s definitely something there’ and it might be sooner rather than later when we get to see if that ‘something’ is enough to translate to the big league (and not writing him off after one or two games if he has a lacklustre start of course... but you know what I mean).

Now is the perfect time to bring a young ruck/forward as we have a nice spread of age/experience, with Levi, Pits, TDK

If Macreadie continues with injury issues, Ben doesn't progress as he should, then release Goddard and target a Ballenden for depth/replacement of Jones

I find it hard to believe a small forward, even a potentially best-in-class (it’s him and Cameron then daylight), could command ‘dynasty player’ numbers.

If Agresta/Austin/Lloyd/whoever is offering 1.3 then I hope they’re overruled by MLG/Liddle/etc.

Perhaps it’s not all about money, maybe his partner is 100% committed to staying in Melbourne and he doesn’t want to do another however-many years of being apart.

Seems like a really grounded guy. I liked hearing how during the shutdown period he went back to work as a plumber to help out his old boss.

...but geez... imagine next year Charlie deep in the square with Eddie roaming nearby, Papley a little further out, McKay CHF then Gov floating around the flanks and up onto the wings & flank moving up into the middle and back for Martin. (Levi the utility off the bench covering relief ruck and all key posts)... then cameos from Cripps, Fish, Murph, Cuningham, Gibbo, etc. Nice.

Agree. Find another TDK in the next 2 drafts.
Macreade and Marchbank will be fine and both will be pushing for spots by the start of 2021. More talent in their little fingers then some others playing KP @ other clubs!!! We owe SoS....

Bailey Williams could be an option as well
Can play ruck forward back there is something about that kid I really like
Hopefully we are talking to his management

Yeah I thought Callum Jamieson in last years draft would have been a very good late pick which West Coast did, similar attributes to TDK and played as an over ager in the champs, we need to get one soonish to start there development unless we can pinch a semi developed one from another club as Kreuser will probably retire at years end and we need another, maybe even need one that is ready to play some games soon.
