I know it’s all guesswork, but does anyone think Cripps will re-sign before the end of this year or will he enter the final year of his contract without an extension?
The debate and commentary on it next year will be unbearable if he doesn’t sign before then.

he made a mockery of this today..........4 more!
No doubt the best small forward in the game atm.

But charlie $800k
Gov $750k
Martin say $750k
Paps $1.2mil
30% of our cap for 4 forwards just seems a lot. No doubt it would be potent but wouldnt/not sure I want to deplete our mids and future to achieve it.

Does either WA club look enticing? Not to me

WCE have an ageing core, but some exciting youngsters as well. If he was keen to leave Victoria I think WCE would move heaven and earth to get him. Not sure what they have in the way of picks to give as they gave so much for Kelly. I also do not know the rules around FA so I’m not sure if Cripps could leave without a trade.
Either way, until he re-signs I’m going to be nervous.
He says all the right things about wanting to stay, even this past week he praised Doc and said something to the effect that he can’t wait to share the field with him for years to come.
He just needs to sign on the dotted line.

Wouldnt be worried buddy.

Hes not leaving us just as we are starting to come good. Captain. loves the club. Hes GROWN these seedlings from scratch like Setterfield.

If he delays signing its because his manager wants to maximise his salary. Nothing more.

Dont worry mate.

Actually, reading it again Cripps says he can’t wait to make more memories with Doc. Doesn’t say PLAYING more with him. Hmmm...

Let's say Carlton has pick 9 again. If it didn't get it done in 2019, it will be nowhere near enough in 2020.

-We gave up 14,24,31 and 2020 1st for Tim Kelly
- Tim Kelly was out of contract
- Draft picks in 2020 aren't as valuable as they were in 2019. Pick 9 in 2019 draft is not worth 9 in 2020 due to the lack of exposed form
- Papley is currently leading the Coleman medal in a bottom 4 team, and at 24 his best years are in front of him.
Papley has come back to the swans as professional as they could have asked. He wants out of the state for person reasons. He has done right by them. Our 1st and a second will get it done.

No way they block him this time around. Yes he is playing better and the 2nd will get the deal over the line.

All of those 3 would have been front loaded. Sensible list management. We have room

And I think Jack Martin could be highly leveraged for this year’s overflow (+$1M?) & back to an average AFL wage thereafter.

McGovern needs re-working on some sums, not a great return on investment for McFumbles so far. Hopefully the contract was very performance based.

And we still need to see where the salary cap ends up & then what impact on contracts & list management holds.

ffs how do we fix this

To be honest, i don't know how the selection of TAC cup teams works. Im not sure if Rowell and Anderson were both from the Oakleigh zone or if they ended up playing their due to their Carey association.

I have read a few times though, that the lack of top end football schools in the Knoghts TAC zone has had a negative effect on the squad.

So if his market value is now $1m per year, we'll most likely have to pay $1.2-$1.3m per year to pry him from Sydney.

I don't think thats the case at all. Papley is contracted to the Swans, he would be lucky to be on $500,000 per year. I know his value has gone up a lot and some clubs will be offering solid money, he already asked to leave Sydney last year, so we won't be needing to triple his wage to entice him home.

As long as we are thereabouts in comparison to other clubs offers, we should be in a good spot and yes, im aware he will pocket a hefty pay rise, good on him, a $150K-$300K pay rise is more than enough for a lot of players to walk.

Why oh why would he be getting paid $1.2M?

Even on those figures, thats just under 27% of the cap based on this years cap, next year it will be lower again as the cap is due to go up (covid may effect that).

Not sure why anyone is quoting $1.2M, its ridiculous

Hes not worth $1mil a year.

Problem with him is if hes getting targeted that much in a poor forwardline, his output will drop when he comes to one choc full of high quality targets.

The best small forward will still never be the presence and reliable target as a curnow/mckay & this year's casboult.

Thats why we used to frustrate under bolts at times, too often we were kicking to smaller players as the main target.

My thoughts exactly.

Similar situation is happening right now with Cripps. Now that Setterfield and Kennedy as stepping up in the midfield, we've got more options to be that main ball winner, hence why his stats are dropping off. Not everyone can be winning the ball at the same time, the same way not everyone can be shooting for goal at the same time.

In these shortened games, teams will only acquire around 300 disposals per game. So when someone does better, it means someone else will be dropping off.

Time will tell.

Clownboy someone else said $1.2m...Im saying its too much. Please read first.

With this years draft being compromised i'd probably be OK with giving up our 2020 & 2021 first round picks. Maybe a third coming back to us.

Let's say 2020 is pick 10...with the compromised draft it's probably more like pick 14. On top of that potential draftees haven't played much this year so it's even harder than normal to pick a winner.

Then we'd be hoping our 2021 pick is in the teens with another year under Teague and Papley in our team.

The guy is a star and has it all...not just the goals and goal nous, but toughness and gets stuck into the opposition. Our forward line is missing an antagoniser.

The way he's been carrying that entire team on his back this season is insane. He's inspirational.

It'll take some real wheelin' and dealin' to pry Paps from Sydney. Why in the hell did he sign an extension to 2023 only to basically immediately get homesick?

He's also probably severely underpaid based on his form now vs form at time of signing. He's got many reasons to look for a trade: coming back home to Victoria, settling with partner in northern suburbs, renegotiating contract for greater coin...
