I prefer that he ends up at Essendon. I think we need a different type of small Forward/FP. Let Swans and Dons beat each other up over PapS and Daniher.
Papley is exactly what we need. Pressure forward with a nouse for goals and a bit of mongrel. Watch the contest with a Mitchell.

Restricted Free Agent is my understanding.

No chance Sydney are being bullied into trading Pick ~2 for an injured Daniher. Carlton's pick (7-12?) might be enough to satisfy Essendon - particularly if the compensation is going to be Band 2.

Band 1 - Pick ~10 - they maybe make some noise to see if Sydney will cough up Pick 2, but that's simply not going to happen given the circumstances.
Band 2 - Pick ~21 - they most certainly threaten to match the bid, and maybe we can trade our first for Papley so that it can be on-traded for Daniher.

I think the big difference with Gibbs was that his reason for leaving was related to family/convenience, he made it pretty clear to the club that he would stay and play if required, he was fit and in form, and Carlton were very light on for senior players.

Daniher desperately wanted out for his own reasons, was injured, and as such has given Essendon absolutely nothing this year. Essendon seemed to think they could convince him to stay, but by all accounts he wanted to go north for his mental health and they knocked back an incredibly good deal (Picks 5 and 9 - two of Stephens, Young, Serong, Flanders, McAsey - maybe even make a cheeky play for Wines) despite it not being in anyone's best interests.
I reckon Gibbs would sign for anything that will give his family a chance to roll on. This is his last contract and last potential payout. Anything in the 300+ range would be enticing. Would cost much in terms of assets either and might pay off emotionally.

It'll take some real wheelin' and dealin' to pry Paps from Sydney. Why in the hell did he sign an extension to 2023 only to basically immediately get homesick?

Did he sign an extension or was it an automatic extension based on satisfying certain criteria? My sense it was the later which that was included in his initial contract when to he moved off the rookie list.

If this is the case then he’d be lucky to be earning the AFL avg. salary. This is why I think his motivation is largely money driven (not saying the family reasons aren’t there too) as he’ll likely be at least doubling his earnings.

Clownboy someone else said $1.2m...Im saying its too much. Please read first.

You put $1.2M for Papley, as well as $$$ for other players, saying the $$$ combined was too much and would be a negative going forward. why put $1.2M? Its a fairyland number, of course its too much.

Unfortunately for Gibbs, he comes with baggage and now demons. Lots were ok for him to leave. Zero chance he is let back into our club

Sydney are no dummies, if the Dons match any bid they would take there chances in the PSD like they did with Tippet and get JD for free. It will only solidify the legend of the Dodod

Papley is everything we need.
But you don’t pay 2 1st rounders and a million dollars a year for a small forward.

Is $20 still $20 if you get $5 change?

$1M of course too much, two 1st rounders isn't much though, when we are talking picks 10 and 14 with something coming back.

Only if the price is right, otherwise they can keep him; or hopefully get shafted by Essendon for all I care.
In any case, since the Richmond bloke moved on SOS to supposedly avoid efficiency being diminished by having to allocate resources to offset a conflict of interest that I still cannot see, he better be a shit hot negotiator as well as a super dooper membership salesman. I’ll be following the off-season trade period with very bloody keen interest.

Me too. We have no idea who might pop up as available. Would love Kelly to take us to the promised land. Perryman too. Let’s see what avails itself in the months to come and enjoy a Blues finals berth this year.

Kelly would be very nice

Apologies if it's been covered, but what do you think is the reasoning for Walsh playing on the wing rather than in the middle? Would have thought long term he'll be attending more centre bounces, are we wanting bigger bodies to compete in the now? Does the wing suit him better in shorter quarters? Cheers

He's not a bigger body, and his acceleration off the mark isn't his strong suit. He's better out there to make position as needed, and he'll be able to cover the ground required more often than most in the team.

With respect, I think I know why Callum Moore was looked over in his draft year. Rookie listed. Delisted, and then looked over again until an emergency list spot opened for us.

In baseball they call him a 4A player. To good for AAA (minor Leagues) not good enough for major leagues.
This video perfectly delineates Moore's strengths as a player:

You can see in his days at Richmond that he was a skinnier player who was built like a tall midfielder, and he played like one too. Suddenly he's got a massive pair of glutes and hamstrings, and doesn't seem to be as nimble or quick any more.

What the **** did we do to him?
