Okay a couple of points here

1 Have no issue targeting Papley, all I am suggesting is not paying overs

Fair enough and while he will be expensive we don't know the cost or alternate options

2 My first preference is Williams, should we stop mentioning his name because he hasn't nominated us and he is from Sydney?

Not sure it needs to be a discussion that is either/or. We should definitely be targeting Williams and as a free agent that can play in 2 areas we are lacking, would be a huge get.

3. Should we stop mentioning/discussing other options, be that they are from Melbourne or interstate?

Again, our club should be looking everywhere to improve the squad, ideally we convince more than one gun to move and strengthen both the mid and small fwd deficiencies and then find a way to get the deals done. We have current and future picks and plenty of salary cap space for the right deals.

4 You think I am the only one that believes our primary target/s are something other than a small forward?

Not at all, but it should be a key target alongside another gun inside/outside mid and a quick halfback with above average kicking skills. The difference is we know we have a target that wants us (or did and hopefully still does) in Papley. The other two areas we are still looking for the target and/or trying to convince them to move.

Yep you read that right, Kemp as the other key position defender to pair with Weiters. Give me one reason why he cant be the guy to replace Jones? Kemp is 6ft4 (193cm) and 89kgs as listed on the carlton website. He is also athletic. Idmuch rather him there than Marchbank (always injured) and macreadie. Yes kemp is gonna miss this year with injury so it may sound rich to say no to marchy cause of his injuries, but come on, kemp is in a much different scenario than marchy. For those who say Kemp is too small for a key position defender, Barrass (194), Jonas (189), Rampe (189), Grimes (193) etc. Hes athletic which allows him to make up for his so called lack of height. He is a great overhead mark and has clean hands. Tell me why he cant play as a key tall? Look at ports defenders. Hes as tall as any of them and they have won 6/8. Key position players don’t necessarily have good endurance which is one of his weaknesses. So by playing as a key it eliminates one of his weaker points. Some people want him as a midfielder but 3-4 years he could be 193cm and close to 100kgs. I don’t care what anyone says, that is good enough to be a key tall. Russell will make him even more of a beast than he already is.

Some people I know will be unhappy about this but if itsreally a big issue, play weiters as a key tall and play three 3rdtalls in plowman, kemp if you don’t see his potential to be a second tall and Marchbank (if marchy ever gets right). Heck, even put jsos in marchys role. I see this big time and more importantly I see it working, especially with all this zoning stuff that happens in today’s game.

I think TDK will overtake Pittonett for the Kreuzer replacement in the future. My reasoning behind that is the simple fact that TDK fits todays game much better than the pitt. TDK’s ability to drift forward is very much a common need in today’s rucks. He’s never gonna be as good of a tap ruckman as Pit but Tdk’s work around the ground at times can be very Tim English esque. I believe when push comes to shove they will chose the king.

This doesn’t include players that can and will be in our side from other teams. This is what makes me so excited about this team. They only need 3-4 more players and we are going into hawthorn, geelong and Brisbane territory. You can bag me all you want for this comment but Richmond have won 2 flags and quite frankly should have won 3. If you don’t think our talent is better or at least as good as theirs im sorry but I canttalk to you.

We are really close, real close…..

Daniel Rioli dropped again. If this continues, there may be a genuine opportunity arising.

We should be asking the question as he's the exact type of pressure forward we need.

He's not a fringe player. Yes, he has been inconsistent this year, but small forwards are inconsistent by nature as they're not primary targets.

Just as an FYI, Rioli applied 6 tackles last week. Tom Papley has only applied 4 tackles in the past 5 games.

If we want tackle pressure, Daniel Rioli is our man.

Make it happen Liddle.........I mean Austin!

Williams is a Free Agent who is at least a reasonable possibility to be squeezed out of the Giants due to the salary cap, and he's from Narrandera, not Sydney. Discuss away.

Of course we should discuss other players. But we'll have a better level of discussion if there is at least some possibility that they'll be gettable.

Gettable according to who?

Gettable according to who?

The narrative in the media is that one of Williams or Kelly will have to leave the Giants due to cap reasons.

Either that or they lose a truckload of promising younger players, but that would deplete their depth.

Time will tell.

Good luck stopping Kemp once he has taken 5 steps.

It is a big centre square set up with Kemp/Crippa/Setters.

Has the ability to be anything. Kouta 3.0 (CC is 2.0)

BK and CC should be 2 great ins in 2021.

There is no need for us to chase B graders or Newnes types in the trade period . With the players on our list we have that covered. Only look at players that are stars.

Why trade any players and weaken our list when we should be moving into contention?

We have the picks to get any trade done.

Exactly.
We’ve done the hard yards at the draft for 5 years now.
The list is basically in place now and just needs to be properly developed along with very selective trading.
We have 1st and 2nd rounders both this year and next, more than enough to land a Papley or a Kelly.
I’d be pretty disappointed if we’re drafting with any meaningful picks this year ...

Plowman is certainly a divisive player on this forum, but I have to say I am happy to read that he has re-signed for 3 years.
I used to cringe when he got the ball, and felt that he was outclassed by virtually every opponent. The post-Covid shutdown period is a small sample size, but I feel he has improved this season and is now a reliable and versatile defender. His play at the death vs NM was a real highlight.

He’s always been a good and very versatile player through some pretty shit times, well deserved

i wouldnt spend more than a millisecond thinking about possibilty of kelly leaving gws. he is using his words carefully to maximise his next gws contract.
That’s fine, makes it more likely that others don’t get the offers they’d like and are open to moving.

They can’t manage the contracts of all of Coniglio, Kelly, Cameron, Greene, Taranto, Whitfield, Williams, Hopper, Caldwell, Hill, etc

Bit harsh on Newnes. He’s been good thus far. Was one of the reason we won against North and umps on weekend.

Newnes has been ok at Carlton. Kicks some nice goals makes some coach killers. The point is we don't have spots in the team for more B graders. We need players that will improve the side

Solid/consistent contributors is exactly what we need, considering the xfactor we already have on the list

love this.!!!,,.!

Papley if nothing else will be an interesting situation to watch.

If he leaves it will be to us, that should be obvious. Already nominated us, we've improved our stocks as an up and coming team, and paying up was never the issue, and won't be this time around.

So it comes down to does he still want to move. If he does, I just can't see how Swans can hold him two years in a row, but equally I can't see how they can let one of their best players walk.

I feel either way they're going to have to rip up his contract. Offer him a new 2-3 year deal worth his value, otherwise if he's determined to leave, they'd have to wouldn't they.

My prediction is he signs a new 2 year contact with a payrise, with an option to trigger a third.
