Yeah it was a premature if not outright bad take on my behalf in the wash up of an extremely emotional and frustrating loss.

Sometimes disappointing losses bring out the worst in me. Hope Paddy Dow can put in a ripping performance against The Giants (assuming he stays in) :)

It happens, no problem there’s a few on here I’ve noticed that doubt the kids ability in making it and everyone’s entitled to their opinion, as has been discussed before his game has required a few things to work on endurance the main one to improve his two way running and pressure, strength & muscle mass and kicking, he looks to have improved the last two...

He’s only 20yrs old and played 40 games, he played in the first round game in March then had a long lay off with a knee injury, besides the four scratch matches he hasn’t played at AFL level for 5 months..

Look at his draft year top 20 Raynor Brayshaw Dow Davies-Uniacke Cerra Stephenson Clark Coffield Naughton O’Brien Bonar Fogarty Brander Ling Bailey Richards Higgins Starcevich Powell Coleman-Jones...

Besides Naughton and Stephenson who have played at a high level Higgins before his head injury, Brayshaw Cerra and Clark and Coffield just starting to come on and show more consistency...

everyone comes along at different rates, they all have strengths and deficiencies they play in strong and struggling clubs, do you think most of these other clubs be giving up and trading out any of their kids already?

And people wonder why others chase off people who share bad rumours.

Let's be clear: LordLucifer's rumour was - by his own admission - not strong. It was from an ex player; didn't say when, who, or how involved they were with Dow or with list management. And yet here you are, ready to ship him out and away, fresh from a single game back in the ones after a long injury layoff and recovery.

People - like me - do not like the degree to which we react to a smidgeon of a breeze as though it's a sign of incipient hurricane. I'm all for people sharing rumours, but people - like you - need be cognizant of what overreacting to these potentially spurious rumours can do, both to other people and the player in question. Did you read Liam Stocker's instagram post in the Media thread? He's quite clearly seen a bit of what's written online about him, felt the pressure of it on him.

Pull your head in.
Spot on Geth, people should watch a movie called “61” about Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, Maris copped it in the media and from his own supporters and it affected him greatly and that was in 1961 when there was no internet or social media, I think we all need to be careful with what we put out there as it can really damage the person or there family.

Not disputing getting in an A grade mid would be great, but what we really need is a solid A-/B+ mid that we can rely on week-in and week-out to:
- do their job
- win 20-odd possessions a game and use it effectively
- tackle, block
- pressure
- run hard and support defensively

I’m thinking down the lines of Touk Miller, Jarrod Lyons, Mundy, Menagola, Libratore, Viney, Ebert, Boak, etc.

I was hoping Kennedy would be this guy, but doesn’t look to be.
Cam Guthrie would be awesome

We definitely need a new ruckman especially if Kreuzer retires.

Pittonet and TDK have shown signs but there are no guarantees they will make it.

Probably better to draft one in the later rounds, but still a team need

TDK will be top 5 ruckman in 3/4 years.New prototype specimen.

Cam Guthrie would be awesome

He's 29 next year, not in the age bracket we should be targeting.

Perryman has averaged 19 disposals this year and shouldn't cost too much. I like that he's become a goal kicking mid... would be very handy.

Or we could try and get Brad Crouch. He's a rfa so won't have to trade anything for him.

I think he'd struggle, to be honest. He's a meat and potatoes forward flanker/mid hybrid in a team that uses/requires a lot of meat and potatoes to compensate for their top tier. Geelong's second tier is greater than the sum of their parts, and while I think having someone from their setup would be a good thing, he isn't who I'd be going for from their list. Parfitt's OOC, as is Narkle.

If we want someone leader-wise, get in Bartel's, Johnson's ear, and get them coaching the parts of our team that make sense for them. For trading in players, insist in getting them 26-27 or under, rather than picking up people on the final stretch (28+).

Can we please look for a mid that can actually kick goals?
Either from link up in play or set shots.
Be nice to have mid's that not only accumulate getting possessions, but can also kick goals.

2011 Murphy and Gibbs would be nice, ey?

Anyone have a time machine we could borrow?

Have you overlooked the shorter quarters?

Averages are about the same if you project it out, but even that won't tell the full picture as fatigue, possession footy etc. are bigger factors of that extra time.

We are also switching far less this year so that would impact his numbers, but then that's also because the likes of Weitering are now hitting up the 50m pass down the line more often, which is a better use of his abilities.

It's a fair and interesting question but he's a defender first, so no I'm not concerned that he's playing a lock down role on many of the best forwards and shutting them down.

Someone made a good point the other day though about how our defenders look to spoil too much, and I tend to agree. Weitering, Jones, Doc, Marchbank (and Casboult, McGovern when used there) are all elite intercept marks. We should be imitating the Eagles defence, because we have the aerial ability to be just as good, and it would allow us to be much more unpredictable with quick ball movement and more open space.

You don't need good talls to bring it to ground when the opposition do it for you. Real waste of one of our biggest assets.

Cheers, I did overlook the shorter quarters but it’s still something I feel is important, I make comparisons to the Eagles defence and I compare him to Rance, he is a fantastic player who is better than a lockdown defender. The role he is playing doesn’t seem to suit his best assets.

Too old now

We have an unbalanced list in terms of that 27- 30 year old group. Adding an experienced player would only help with consistency and playing 4 quarters.

GWS have shown you need more that just A graders running around to win a premiership.

Zak Jones is another...

Probably starting to sound like a broken record but Toby McLean was a goal kicking mid for the Dogs before being pushed out of the midfield rotations last year. He's a supporting act that wouls flourish with Carlton.

2nd/3rd rounder ?

Could be handy, perfect age bracket and could play on a forward flank/pocket as a Betts replacement

Out of interest how many rucks do Richmond, West Coast, Giants, Geelong have on their list??

There is no way any of them have more than 2 mature rucks.. Players perform best when they have job security.. The best teams have a clear #1 and then its pointless have 2 unhappy understudies.
Richmond have
Soldo -23
Nankervis -26
Chol-23
Callum Coleman Jones - 20

Balta & Miller (yet to play 197cm) can also chop out similar to casboult

So it seems that Zac is arguably our no 1 trade priority but I doubt the one player will be enough. We are into Papley and rumoured to be talking to Issac Heeney and we also have De Goey is out of contract. Which of those three would you take first? All three can play in the middle and do damage as medium forwards.

Subject to medical clearance I wouldn't mind Nadia Cockatoo as our specialist back pocket. Will come very cheap given he was a former top 10 pick who hasnt been able to get his body right.

Our 2021 best 22 doesn’t have Casboult, Pitto and TKD in it

If TKD is number 1 then Levi is the back up

If pitto is number 1, TDK takes Levi’s role

Charlie and McKay take the lead forward roles

We can’t carry all 3 in the one side, our forward pressure severely hampered by it

Heeney
Papley
JDG

Cockatoo is not a specialist back pocket. Not sure he has ever spent time deep in defence.
