Is there anyone here mad enough to pay for the Herald Sun? Whatever Mick McGuane has to say is hidden behind a paywall.

Mick McGuane is the most overrated 'expert' going around. He's Captain Obvious and whe he was on TV used 100 words of gibberish for what he could have said in 10 words.

To that end, to summarise his article:

- Pension off Simpson and Betts
- Play Cripps forward more
- Get Papley at all costs even if you have to give up some young talent like LOB. If can't get Papley go for Bruest or Jack Petruccelle

Papley is a top 10 pick every day of the week with nothing back, Currently Blues look like having Pick 7/8 in a compromised draft
He is easily worth that he is 24 years old and has 8-9 year as a fully developed player and you know what you are getting compared to a young 18 year old with no games this year taking 3-4 years to develop 'if he's any good'

I compare Papley to our trading of Dion Prestia who was 1 year older. Jump at that trade every day

Probably starting to sound like a broken record but Toby McLean was a goal kicking mid for the Dogs before being pushed out of the midfield rotations last year. He's a supporting act that wouls flourish with Carlton.

Don't get me wrong. I rate him highly. Some posters here think is expendable and I cant see why. Still think both Marchbank and Macreadie will be critical to our future success and can play in key positions down back subject to fitness.

Yes - would like to see Weiters and Marchy intercepting like McGovern and Barrass at West Coast. Maybe a BSOS to replace Jones in time ??

Do I have to? Don't usually look back, but what an opportunity missed. We would be set, came cheap and for our forward mix
would be equally as valuable as Papley. Paps can play more as a target, but doesn't need to in our group (when fit). Crumbing,
connecting and harassing is what we need.

Pfft Prestia - apart from two flags and a B&F whats he ever done for Richmond ??

Some of our best defensive efforts under Bolton had Marchy, Plow and Jones in the side with Weiters developing. Simmo and Doc as the smalls

Plow has the ability to play on anyone from 182-192.

Marchy is a great zone defender and regularly takes intercept marks and provided cover to Jones and Weiters as well

Most teams play with 7 defenders so I can see that all working again in 2021

You try being in Plowman's position against each teams most crafty small to mid size forward! We also have one of the slowest midfield who don't get back and help out.

Murphy has become scared and doesn't put his body on the line. And we all know Cripps and Setterfield aren't that quick.

Plowman is playing a whipping boy role and if we were playing more as a team he wouldn't be.

We won 2/3 of those games, and had momentum for 85% of the Geelong game

Defence is a team game and players get out bodied or out marked, that happens.

If the mids are pressuring the ball carrier and the kicks aren’t coming in lace out id back Plow to half or better his 1 v 1 contests

Agree with him re Breust.

I seem to be coming from a different angle to most, but I want to get value in older players rather than speculative youngsters. Breust wouldn’t be my first choice bc he doesn’t have the leadership of others, but he is an incredible roving forward on his day and will definitely bring intellectual property from one of the all time best forward lines. I’d argue that he handles the ball more cleanly than any other player in the league on a half-volley.

I can't agree he is overrated, he was spot on pre the Hawthorn game and has made excellent points in this current article. It is a fact Cripps has been far less effective this year and does not defend. He is spending 92% of his time in midfield and when he is forward, he needs to kick more goals.

Kreuzer to mentor with one more year, retire Simpson and Eddie Betts.

He said C Curnow needs to play deep forward as he gets lost in the middle and isn't a 360 player. McKay to combine forward and ruck.

I tend disagree on your analysis of McGuane is one of the most astute football brains getting around.. I had never considered how much Cripps lack of 2 way running might hurt the team but makes complete sense now.

I think Patty need to spend more time resting on the bench so he can be more dynamic when he is on.

I think Paddy needs to work on his kicking in general, and stop trying to do everything. It is folly to think he can do everything and we succeed. We won't be a good team until we stop relying so much on one guy in the middle. It is Kouta and Juddy all over again.

Yes and each of those noted are explosive and a tricky match-up for anyone when left isolated inside 50.
Plow boo boys may not like it but there's a reason why Doc, Simmo & Willo don't go anywhere near these types.
