There is absolutely no reason to trade SPS at all. None, zilch, Zippo zero.

Give him the rest of the season off if he wants it, and hopefully he comes back to pre-season refreshed and re-energized.

I think it is understandable that he would be struggling in this enclosed Hub type of quarantine.
Send him forward for a game or two. Cant offer less than Eddie and might create a goal or two, shake it up.

I'd by more inclined to pop SPS in the guts and say 'show us what you got, son'.. Nothing to lose...so much to potentially gain.

This ******* footy club. Why would you give him another contract ffs.

Regardless whether you like it or not, he still performing better than his juniors. He was loyal till us now, if end up telling to go off kinda sends a negative culture cause you didn't look after a loyal servant. Can rub a few players in the playing group the wrong way. Who knows.

We give up SPS and pick 5 or 6 for Papley and I will personally walk away from AFL. That would do me for life.

Get an additional 30-40 goals from Papley and save another 20 goals from SPS lack of defensive effort. Would do that trade every day of the week.

Really don’t understand the consensus on here that want to improve the list without trading players or draft picks.

SPS, Dow, O’Brien, Stocker have had opportunity but have yet to take it. Possibly they haven’t had the coaching to grow, but more probable they struggle at AFL level.

Would rather upgrade them while they may have some currency, if the become decent players elsewhere good on them. We need proven talent for the now.

So we are keeping Murphy to get to 300 -- I think that means that we are ready to finish 9 th .. as why bring on a quality mid a small forward and play Murphy While keeping what is on our list in the reserves .. so I take it we going to bring in no one and do a mick malthouse first year at club and say we can win a flag with what we have .. Please keep tugging .. to bring in a A grader old men must go for balance .

F*** me. More Murphy pile on. Not surprised really. If he is the worst problem we have the, life’s a breeze. Not in our next flag side but, when is that exactly?

Yes we must decorate this last 20 year with Murphy and Simpson .. at least Haydn bunton won a few Brownlow..

Contract says otherwise. Pick a different target or you are not TrueBlue.
I been a Carlton person for a longtime - but playing Murphy does not make sense he hold 3 players out of position and Some of them may be no good-/ persisting with what you know doesn't work doesn't mean your smart because you are loyal

Never claimed to be smart, output shows that Murphy should to be a target. Which 3 is he holding out?

He is no longer a full time mid and Nor a wing . So runs the periphery and goes in for some centre clearance ( not successful but we haven't had many centre bounce lately ) .. I have nothing against his possesion count .. if Cunningham gibbons Martin played his role would we be any worse off .. they would be in a position to receive and distribute .. Could SPS run the periphery same speed also can only kick 30 metres --for me cripps curnow Murphy is a terrible set up -- two blokes have no defensive pressure 3 blokes average by foot - one horrible - those three players get the most disposals for us on average every game and people wonder why we average .. Murphy been a great servant but as some man said keep doing same thing and expect different result

Now that finals are as good as done and dusted and as much as this hurts me to say I think the club needs to organise farewell games for our great champs Eddie and Simmo, look to trade Mitch McGovern and Levi Casboult while they are still worth something, do whatever it takes to get Williams or Kelly from GWS and Papley from the Swans and get Cripps and SPS right for next season. Other needs?

1. Sammy is suffering from a decent right shoulder injury. But he’s playing through it. I’d rest him and throw him under the knife now.

2. Throwing all our kids out there achieves one thing - an undoing of all the good work we have achieved. Keep your best 22 unless injured and work on the game plan. I’d rest Weiter for a week, that calf looks dodgy.

3. I’m not sure what everyone sees in Polson, Honey, Cotterell, Philp, etc, but we continue to bag the living hell out of Dow. None of them have shown anything special at Senior level, but Dow, who plays as an inside mid, the hardest position of any of them, gets the whip. You’d be an idiot to give up on him now. Time to give LOB another run and see what he does, but I don’t expect much due to the faster pace and physicality of the seniors. Perfect swap in for Sammy to rest. It takes more than 1 or 2 games to get used to it and playing in the heat doesn’t help Either.

4. If it’s mathematically impossible, rest Cripps. Don’t ask, just do. He’ll still be around the group, he’s just tanked.

i think murph and simmo can contricute well for at least one more year. im not sure about betts. he appears to attack the ball at lightling speed but he tends to get caught in traffic and hence unable to score like he once used to in those situations.

I think the difference is expectations. Those other guys people had no expectations of. The entire re-build was done in the expectation that players like Dow would be the ones driving us up the ladder.
most of all Cottrell, Philp and Polson have a crack. They may never become good players but they give there all so it’s bloody hard to be critical. Dow looks extremely unfit/lazy.
