I think you should forget about papely, he's a gun but you need a gun mid, a top 25 in the league player, you have a commodity in Curnow that can bring that in, and that makes Cripps a better player and McKay and McGovern better through better delivery.

You could use a second round pick I reckon to get a breust, miers, rioli into the side to fill the small fwd role.
I would think the following could also be looking for new homes
Dow- no confidence in himself, looked smooth with ball in hand against GWS then he misses a target by a big margin, what I didn't like was he had no defensive efforts, his tackles were broken and he didn't chase with vigour or intent

Sps- looked a really good clearance player last year, good round 1 but a disappointment since

Obrien- if people are into Atkins from crows surely their will be suitors for O'Brien

Keep levi- he's cheap and he can play ruck fwd and back and has no trade value

Simo and eddie- line ball for both, I hope both err on going out on top, although simo still is the one putting his body on the line reading the play to sit in front of fwds, but kicking not as reliable. Eddie still takes the best small fwd and that has helped the team, he's attack on the ball is still good, where Carlton players were standing back in the last against GWS Eddie played on instinct and attacked the pill.
Murphy - retire he seems to pick and choose with effort this year
Kreuzer- body is gone unfortunately, pittonet will be the inbetween baton whilst dekoning grows into his body with Levi for backup

Blues are not far away and in reality outplayed Collingwood and gws and should have won just need to tinker and bring in a gun mid
My two cents 🤷🏻‍♂️
You lost my attention in your very first sentence; Paps is not a gun, he's small pistol.
As for the rest of your post; pffffft.

Mods, please edit the post if I've copied too much

Tom Papley (Sydney)

Will he stay or will he go?

Much like Daniher, Tom Papley was desperate to get to the club of his choice, Carlton, during last year's trade period. But Papley too returned to the pre-season in great shape and has had another impressive season inside the forward 50. Sydney still remains confident he'll stay a Swan long-term, but Carlton is set to have another go 12 months later.

What's he got to offer?
Goal kicking small forwards are hard to come by. St Kilda hit the jackpot with Dan Butler, a player Carlton showed significant interest in. Eddie Betts could be in his last year and David Cuningham simply hasn't yet justified his three-year contract. Papley would be the perfect crummer to Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay.

If Murphy is taken into next year, and it seems that he is, then you just know he will be gifted games to get to 300 whether he is still setting terrible standards or not.

It's like we don't know how to actually improve or something.

It's a bad move made for bad reasons.

Did anyone see Brisbane take it to Collingwood last night physically and then in game, and announce themselves as fair dinkum?

That should be us next year.

Who do we have that can physically take it up to any team?

Even Cripps, while big, is not overly physical. Our most physical players are Ed and Jack Martin.

Not interested, another with poor disposal by foot

Will be unpopular in these parts, but I would target Touk Miller

Can play shutdown, ball winner and very good by foot
Miller is GCs vice captain, is contracted till 2022 and is an AFL ambassador (which probably disappears if he leaves GC). What makes him gettable?

Knew you wouldn’t be far away John ...
John? Happy to move on from any player, including Murphy, when others prove themselves and take the spot. Which player in 2020 is beating the door down to take Murphy’s spot? In our top 5 again against GWS.

I’d Like to see h8m get some finals success, wherever that may be.

You are very invested in Murphy continuing.
Building a contending team should always be the focus.
Murphy isn’t that.

I’m invested in Carlton’s best 22 winning games. At the moment, Murphy is one of them.
Contented team? This is a throw away line with little substance.
We are growING.
Again, which player would you supplant Murphy with?

Anyone that doesn’t continually avoid the contest for starters.
How do you possibly see that standard standing up on the MCG in September.

Anyone? Who? When there is a replacement, fire away. Right now, there is no one. I hope it’s Kemp, next year will tell us. Until then keep throwing generalisations.

A player that never really hit my radar is Ports Karl Amon He was rumoured to us a year or two ago and I thought meh. He’s actually not a bad option as small forward/mid. Speaking of small forward/mids :-

Q - why don’t we play Gibbons more on the ball. Liston Trophy winner multiple times - as a mid.

As a young developing mid in a sh*t midfield, that was acceptable(ish).

Ultimately though, to come into the seniors this week, refreshed after a game off, he should have been covering the ground and getting into positions for his teammates to use him.

He's played 77 senior games. I was absolutely staggered at his complete lack of presence. How do you get 5 touches playing off half back, as a player who is considered to be a very good ball user? His teammates should be looking for him, and he should be finding some space. Even cheap possies while we're switching the play.

I kinda hope there's something going on, because if there's not, then there's no excuse.

Think we need to play him on-ball for the remainder of the year if he's fit. Let him hunt the ball at stoppages. If he's still struggling to impact at that point, I'd be seriously considering using him as trade collateral. See if we can con Freo into a straight swap for Cerra.
Is anyone even considering that SPS is now in a new environment and he isn't dealing with it as well as some?

He is a small town, quiet kid who does take some time. He's probably finally settled in Melbourne for a few years, then bang. His life is all over the place from hub to hub. Probably no time to himself and inundated with people around him.

You’re probably right.
The club will set their standards.
The football world will judge them ...

Not wrapped personally but I can’t do much about it.

I guess all I can do is shake my fist........

Personally wouldnt have given Murph another year. But now we have so I want to see the youngsters push him out of the side by end of next year.

Simmo- would have given him a year before murph. Take the birth certificate away and he still puts in every week... still contributing to a decent level.

Krueze - Hes a good man and a good Carlton person but he has to be gone. Can never get on the park. Does anyone actually think we can get 20 games out of him next year?

Betts- was probably my favourite player before he left for Adelaide. It's been nice seeing him back for a year, but the time has come.

Edit: opps accidently posted that in the game thread

Why Unpopular? Took is a gun, has a winners mentality, cracks in, seems entrenched at GC but who knows,

Where would he fit though? is he fast enough, is he an Ollie Wines lite?

Lets say we got Took or a Wines, or Viney, do you persist with Kennedy, Dow or a Stocker or do you trade them off to then target another area of need?
