I'm sure many of them have done much more for the community than you and I, but they get no credit.
And many will acknowledge that their religion was the main reason why they are who they are and act the way they do.

You can't dismiss that religion as a whole has had a much greater positive affect on society than negative one.

Yikes.

I will happily say that I don't believe religion has had a much greater positive effect of society than a negative one.

Probably more people have been killed in the name of religion in human history than any other cause.

I can't think of a single thing that has divided more people in horrific ways than religion.

Sure - I understand why we needed religion thousands of years ago to educate people to not sleep with their relatives.

Now? In a time of science? I'm thoroughly behind religion being a way to bring some communities together to support one another.

But the sad truth is - a lot of modern religion is more driven by supporting prejudice than it is about accepting differences. I don't know if Jesus would recognise a lot of the words said in His name.

I've always been intrigued by atheists view on what makes people "good."
How do you or other atheists judge one person as good and the other bad?
Sorry - is that a serious question?

It has nothing to do with superstition, mumbo jumbo and make believe men in the sky.

Are you kind? Generous? Do you think of others? Will you leave the world a better place?

When we're dead, we're dead. If you're willing to plant trees that you will never sit beneath, you're a good person.

That has nothing to do with myths, superstition and believing in Gods. It's about caring for people.

Whether I believe in Harry Potter, Thor or Moses doesn't make me a good person. Helping the people around me does.

Funny thing is Jesus hated religiosity.
I'm not religious, but believe in JC.
And having lived in different parts of the world, have seen the impact genuine religion has had in a positive sense.

This made me chuckle, typical kristof.

That's the one failing of Modra.... Those wings are average.

Yeah, and honestly, Schnithouse has gotten worse over time. I think they've fallen into the trap of making their menu too expansive.
I’ve had one schnitzel there and it was exactly as named. Shithouse.

I'm 100% atheist, but I will agree that religion itself can have an exceptionally positive influence on some people.
The problem with all religion, is that it is fully open to corruption. Once corrupted, any sense of positivity is destroyed.

Look, to be honest, that's good to hear.

I believe that Jesus existed and was a pretty good bloke. We could do with more like him.

That's with everything in life.
Politics, footy clubs 😉 etc

Greed sucks.

I was never a real fan of their schnitties as it was. With all those toppings quite often the actual schnitzel was either under or overcooked.

And you seem to be negative towards all religion.

I'm with arrowman on this, there's campaigners in all walks of life regardless of what they do or dont believe in

Well I’d suggest from my observations that the Catholic Church acts in the interests of itself rather than its parishioners. And then we have the Pentecostals (happy clappers).

You can believe in the almighty without building monstrosities to preach in. Keep it simple, worship at home.
