From memory I don't recall Fitzroy kicking up a stink that we wore red, gold and blue when we entered the competition.

Nor did we kick up when Gold Coast adopted red, gold and blue as their colours.

And Carlton and Geelong seem to exist fine wearing blue and white.

Yet Eddie/Collingwood lose their minds because Port want to wear black and white...
Eddies arguments were strange last night saying verbal contracts, signed contract etc. How long are these contracts and cant they be changed or altered. Eddie is the real power in the AFL. What he say is gospel and Gil needs to put him in his place.

What people need to remember is that in order to get the job, the VFL had to be sure the person appointed would be their patsy. Gil got the job and has done exactly as required. There is no way Gil ever rocks the boat, as he was appointed only because he wouldn't.

Not strange at all. One of Collingwoods biggest assets is its brand, being the Magpie and the colours black and white.

They are kind enough to let a team which wears different colours use their branded black and white colours on certain circumstances, but overall wish to retain their rights to their own asset.

Similarly with the logo. As Eddie pointed out, the Port Power Football Club use the Magpie in a lot of its promotion for an AFL club.

In any other business this would not be acceptable. If Pepsi wanted to release a new flavour in a red can with a white ribbon, it would not fly, even if Pepsi's history was of its original factory that had red and white curtains. Similar, if you went to Pepsi's website and saw it was covered with links to their first product, which was a herbal tea called "Coca Teala" then Coke would argue that they are using the Coca Cola brand in the soft drink market.

Collingwood have spent years building the story and brand around black and white, and magpies in the VFL, which became the AFL. Port did the same in the SANFL. Port left the SANFL and joined the AFL. It can't bring its assets with it if they negatively impact an existing AFL club.

Congratulations to Greg Phillips on being inducted into the HoF

Well deserved honour
A controversial question, but is it just me or is the bar for HoF too low?

Greg Phillips absolutely should be in there, his record is amazing!

Lenny Hayes though? Great bloke, but is he really one of the GREATS, or just a really good player?
297 games
Norm Smith
3 B&Fs
4 AAs

Glenn Archer
Shane Crawford
Simon Goodwin
Barry Hall - WTF!
Garry Hocking
David Neitz
Matthew Richardson
Anthony Stevens

Most of these weren't even the best player in the team at the time.

I think the HoF should be reserved for Dunstall, Lockett, McLeod, Voss, Ablett, Judd, Carey

People who are the first few who are mentioned when it comes to their position.

It seems to be a Hall of Longevity rather than who were the best players

I’m always a little surprised Port didn’t link the pale blue from their original strip with black and white, instead of using teal
Maybe they should do a teal guernsey with black and white stripes on it - similar to how Collingwood's away jumper is white with black stripes not black with white stripes

And then there is Carlton, Kangaroos and Geelong all wearing the same colours

So... TL;DR

F*** Port.

Mark Bickley....

I reckon Richo deserves his spot, and probably Crawford marginally.

I don't actually think Brown does, controversial opinion I know.

Glenn Archer - easy
Shane Crawford - Brownlow, and decent so yes
Simon Goodwin - one of ours, but meh.
Barry Hall - WTF! - agree. Personality pick
Garry Hocking - meh
David Neitz - meh
Matthew Richardson - easy
Anthony Stevens - outshone by team mates, but I'm ok with it.

(for disclosure North is my side team - no bias).

Longevity seems the main criterion. A bit self-biasing as most 300 game players are pretty decent.

Welcome to HoF DMac 2028.

Hayes - yep
Glenn Archer - yep
Shane Crawford - yep
Simon Goodwin - yep, but okay if he isn't
Barry Hall - nah
Garry Hocking - nah
David Neitz - probably, but okay if he isn't
Matthew Richardson - yeah
Anthony Stevens - nah

Dual premiership captain Mark Bickley I’m happy with. Brings up another bugbear of mine. I don’t know what metrics our club uses to rate captaincy performance. Ironically, the worse we got, the better they seemed to get. Roo better than Bicks, Goody better than Roo, VB better than Goody. As far as I’m concerned, Bicks the best of the lot and by a fair margin.

They add roughly 4-6 players per year. Way too many. You can't seriously believe the AFL produces 4-6 Hall of Famers per year

Aren't the bars just the pier or wharf or something anyway?

Yes, they like to refer to them as prison bars but the origins are the wharf pylons of Port Adelaide. But that isn’t sexy enough or doesn’t fit the “us vs them” narrative they love.

The prison bar nickname didn’t come from Port Adelaide at all.

Surely if Port wants to wear the prison bars in showdowns only going forward, we should have a say in it.

Sure it’s flattering that they see us as so special that they want to wear fancy dress when they play us.

But in response to the request, kindly, go fu** yourselves port.

In fact, if Chappy wants to leave any sort of positive legacy at this club, the day after next weeks game, he should ring Gil and tell him it must not happen and make a big stink in the media. At least we know we’ll have Eddie on our side.

Of no concern to us what they wear, if they want to pretend to be the real Port Adelaide for their biggest two games a year good luck to them.

Their just showing their insecurities about who they are now.

Bickley as an individual player was tough and hard, but a HoF worthy player ??

Please.

Correct ...
The 'Prison Bar' nickname originated from fans of the Norwood Football Club in the late 1980s and early 1990s in an attempt to deride the Port Adelaide supporter base, playing on Port Adelaide's strong working class demographic.

Now lets be reasonable.. how about a compromise?

Port can wear their Prison bars to celebrate their heritage and we'll wear a SA state of origin design to celebrate ours.

I just did a quick comparison to the NFL. Their rules have them select at least 4 and no more than 8 players a year. Yet their competition and number of players is HUGE in comparsion.

Insecurities? Confusion more like it
