Colours can be trademarks and Collingwood would argue they have rights over the black and white stripes in an AFL competition just like Cadbury enforces it’s right to the colour purple.Designs can be owned but colours can't, unless they're trying to just falsely copy a known brand for commercial purposes. The crappy Port prison bars design is patently different to Collingwood's black and white stripes, just as other clubs have our colours in different designs. Port can wear black, white or pink polkadots for all I care. They look like a SANFL side in that stupid guernsey and hopefully will play like one.

And it would win.

Port shouldn't wear it at all. However Eddie gave them special permission. How long do we think Port will just keep it at playing in showdowns before they ask for all home games bar Collingwood?AFL owns the TM though. Pretty sure that’s what Eddie said.

Also thinking about it, the prison bar jumper only looked its best in a lace up. It actually is a quite ugly jumper when in modern day fabric regulations. It doesn't translate to AFL well at all. I think port are living on the romance of it than the actual look. However port shouldn't wear it.

Exactly. Eddie should have no say in it.I think what a lot of people are missing in the guernsey debate for Port, is that they can eat sh!t.
Port sold their soul when they tried to undercut the SANFL. In doing this they gave up any and all bargaining positions the SANFL had. This included giving up their heritage, their rights to the 'magpie' and black and white colours.
It is also true that the AFL own the copyright for all club names, colours, logos and designs (this was done to avoid a break away 'Super' league). So in fact, Eddie has ZERO say in who can do what with the colours etc... It is purely up to the AFL. The fact that Port have to beg Eddie for permission to use their own heritage is a reflection of how compromised the AFL is and also how much Port sold out.
Maybe when they have a whinge and cry, Port should reflect that this is purely an outcome based on their own behaviour.
Eddie is the most powerful person in the AFL and he seems to control all matters discussed. MCG, Cola, Brisbane recruiting allowances, Docklands deals powerful through TV connections . He needs to be taken down a few pegs.Exactly. Eddie should have no say in it.
AFL controls the imagery of the clubs.
The fact Eddie McGuire has any input in this, in an effort to protect a Black and White srtipes brand, shows how Vic Centric this league is.

If Port are allowed to wear the Black and White jumper (the best jumper in the land I will say) our boys should use that as motivation to beat them every time.
Port are setting these games up as quite important to their club.
Knock em down.
BTW, the real Port ethos was to hold no club above any other. Does not matter which club you play next Saturday. Every game is important and all clubs/games treated equally in the desire to win. In doing so ultimate success will come.
Redlegs, South, Gelenelg, Centrals who cares.
This proposal is a contrast to that ethos. Beating us is of more importance to the Tealsters.

Quite right. When you compare the AFL to the truly professional big fish sporting competitions around the world it becomes plain to see what a farce this league really is.Eddie is the most powerful person in the AFL and he seems to control all matters discussed. MCG, Cola, Brisbane recruiting allowances, Docklands deals powerful through TV connections . He needs to be taken down a few pegs.
Look at the EPL and the colours each club has, they would laugh at us.

The whole thing just exposes how far Port have fallen. The more the Kochhead carries on, the more pathetic they look.
Cadbury says it will continue to protect what it believes is a distinctive trademark, using unregistered rights. After two decades, Cadbury finally cedes its purple trademark

24 years since it began claiming sole rights to the colour purple (Panatone 2685C), Cadbury has lost an appeal that would have protected its 1995 trademark.
Maybe the AFL could adopt this, that’s what it has become,Cadbury says it will continue to protect what it believes is a distinctive trademark, using unregistered rights.

Probably depends if it’s coming from a non coherent port supporterNorwood supporters aren't known for intelligent, or constructive, comments.
You missed the point. What a load of hogwash, our players would have zero care factor about a SANFL "traditional" jumper.
They could wear a pink with blue polka dots jumper and it would mean the same to our players (and most of the Powah players too)
Port made a point about making these games about grand finals and not letting the crows win. The problem is it means crap because not only are these games even but alot of the time they have lost the following week. The crows approach of treating these games like any other game actually is statistically successful. When we played them like a final in the early days we actually lost. It would be a huge mistake in my opinion for the crows to start treating it like a grandfinal. The end game is a grand final and premiership not beating port. You missed the point.
Not about SANFL tradition at all.
If Port care so much about these games, to have a separate jumper for the occasion, make sure they don't win.

Still a bit iffy, and that's for a particular shade of purple (Panatone 2685C) not black or white which are arguably not even colours.Cadbury says it will continue to protect what it believes is a distinctive trademark, using unregistered rights.
Most years I'd agree but can't see us being anywhere near a flag this year.Port made a point about making these games about grand finals and not letting the crows win.
