How did they go in previous encounters...

All counts for nothing now, but Carlton are still an ordinary side & 1 win against us doesn't change things as said more about how we were travelling at the time.
Carlton were actually one of the better teams in the 2nd half of the season last year. We were far from the only team they beat. They were much improved on the rabble* they'd been for years, and in the first half of the season.

It remains to be seen whether that was just a bounce from getting rid of an unpopular coach, and they will now return to the mean... or whether it was the harbinger of real improvement. Their pre-season form suggests the former.

* Apologies to rabbles everywhere, Carlton were frequently worse than that.

Covid 19 could destroy teams seasons.
I reckon we're going to see empty stadiums too.
Players will need to be tested b4 playing each week.
I can definitely see empty stadia happening.

What's the point of testing before playing? Surely the players come into "close contact" with each other at training (i.e. every day of the week)? They can't be tested every single day.

Results from testing can take more than 48 hours atm, so probably pointless

It is entirely feasible that the season gets shut down at some point.

Consider a scenario;

Coronavirus has been spreading rapidly through the community. Clubs have gone in to lock down (no social functions etc...) to attempt to protect players. Crows play Richmond at MCG on Sat April 11. All precautions have been taken. On Monday 13th April a Richmond player is unwell and goes in for tests. All Richmond players and Crows players are instructed to stay home until results are known (no training). On the Wednesday, the results confirm that the Richmond player has tested positive for Coronavirus. All Crows and Richmond players are then to undergo testing, but given incubation periods, no one will know if other players have contracted the virus until 7-14 days later.

On Thursday April 16th, Crows are set to play Essendon. Does the game go ahead? Do Essendon risk it? What if their players refuse to play?

This is a very possible scenario. And could be repeated multiple times across the league. I wonder what plans the AFL have in place?

Quizzed on ‘getting the best out of McGovern’, Teague warned of focusing too closely on the numbers and instead praised the 25-year-old’s footy IQ.
“He didn’t have a big impact on the game in possessions but some of the things that he did ... we actually need more players like Mitch,” Teague told 3AW.

Where does this rank against Campo's "I wish we had 45 David Mackays" comment?

The testing before games (48 hours before) is to protect the other team. What a club does to protect its players from covid 19 is up to the club.

Any time the AFL can screw us out of a top 4 pick...

I’m not sure BB was unpopular in the way most coaches become before getting the flick. I think it was more that he was just very bad at his job. Reckon the players liked him a lot. Certainly can’t recall any reports of player discontent.

pre season games are a waste of time imo.

dont know why anyone would bother watching tbh

I liked the old days with the GF. Otherwise just lengthen the season by 3 games. That would make 8 double ups. The evens from the previous year play each other twice as do the odds. The fixed 17 games are alternating home/away fixtures over 2 years. Not sure how to lock in the double ups. Clubs can agree to mutually trade double up opponents up to a limit, say 2 or 3, to maximise revenue, 2 showdowns, play in China etc. The AFL can work out a way to televise the negotiations.

Sounds more like Matthew Wright's "non-statistical" role.

At least Campo's comment made sense, when it wasn't taken out of context (as the DMac haters invariably did - with relish).
It was about both at the same time. My recollection is it was something like, “both those boys are performing roles that mightn’t show up on the stats sheet but........”. Wright dropped soon after, Mackay a couple more games after that but he returned for finals.

Weren’t rumours (here anyway) that Brouch was filthy with BB over the management of his groin injury over the preseason and leading into the 2018 season. Rumours also he was considering a trade
