So they’ve tracked a case site to level 2 of the G, during the WC final. Imagine how many could have been infected?

They must shut down mass gatherings..today

Yes, as noted - most of the assumptions I made were of the optimistic nature. The reality we face is actually worse than those numbers suggest.
I don't think the starting point of assuming 60% of the population catches it, is an "optimistic" assumption. So no, I don't think the reality is worse than you are suggesting, I don't think it's as bad as you are suggesting.

That's what most of the experts are predicting.

Just have to look at the raw statistics to debunk the "flu killed x number yesterday, this is a media beat up".

126k cases, 4.6k deaths.

The flu has a far lower mortality rate.

Plus the lack of a vaccine.

Also remember the cdc adds. pneumonia deaths to the flu deaths, so 2007 there was 3600 deaths but 3000 of the deaths was caused by pneumonia, 600 confirmed flu, so over the population of North America flu deaths are very low.

Lock it in Eddie, empty stadiums almost a fait accompli for R1, as to whether the season is suspended is what will be discussed next.

Authorities in Victoria have confirmed six new cases of coronavirus, revealing most had been in large crowds at the weekend – including the T20 World Cup final at the MCG.

That's what most of the experts are predicting.
I don't know who these "most of the experts" are, and I understand that the author of this piece:
is not an "expert", but..

"She said today that two-thirds of Germany could become infected by the new coronavirus COVID-19, according to the New York Times. It’s beyond the worst case scenario. It’s not even a severe case scenario. It’s an apocalyptic scenario and assumes no actions by governments and individuals. It also assumes the virus in Germany lasts longer than it’s even lasting in China, the virus’ home. "

I think the bolded part is key. Australia is an island, we have better control over our borders than most countries, and we seem to be acting early. I'm not dismissing it, not at all, but I'm optimistic this will pass with less impact than some people are thinking.

Also iIf a player has it then the whole team will have to be quarantined for 2 weeks as well as any teams they've played against so yeah I don't expect there will be any more NBA this year.

I suspect 2020 is going to be a write off for everything

No school, no sport, no social gatherings, no concerts etc

Unfortunately shit looks like it's about to get real.
There is no way everything will be cut off for an entire year.

Hypothetically, if everyone is quarantined for the next 2 months and only allowed to leave to get food or go to the doctor, the virus won’t spread as easily and anyone who has the virus can be identified more easily.

They knew he wouldn’t be back until at least mid season with his calf, should watch the Melbourne doco series.
Bennell's latest injury comes just days after this article, an interview with Ross Lyons, was published in the Fairfax/Nine newspapers:
https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sp...not-just-coach-call-lyon-20200309-p548cl.html
But Lyon had caught up in Melbourne with another recruit and (now ex) Docker that struggled to get on the field in Harley Bennell, who has been listed by Melbourne. He said Bennell was sprinting in a way that he had never managed as a Docker.

Lyon said Bennell, who had a succession of calf injuries at Fremantle, was "going really well" in Melbourne, having had successful surgery to his calf.

"He's excited. He's sprinting. He's sprinting at levels he never was able to achieve at Fremantle. Up on his toes sprinting," Lyon said.

"Well there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge and, you know, but really in his corner, hoping for him."

These types of things are never as bad as the alarmists want you to believe, but of course it needs to be contained as much as possible to prevent further spreading.

He's right.
The vast majority of games are utterly shit to watch. It's the one major rule change I'd actually be happy with. Stuff the zones and all the new umpire interpretations. Let's just create a field where there's actual space for a bloke to run down the wing, or for a Carey/Jakovich style one-on-one battle. Fitness levels and tactics have reached the point where it's pretty much our only option left to create a watchable game.

Apocalyptic ??

That is the very idiotic language that has people stocking up on toilet paper.

No less idiotic or dangerous than the people who are saying

"It's just the flu"

I agree that apocalyptic is over the top, but there's definitely reasons for why people are concerned about it especially given the fatality rate.
