Of course.Apparently 542,000 watched the match in Melbourne last night. If that’s accurate, that’s the biggest FTA audience for a H/A game since 2013.
The AFL are nothing if not opportunistic. No other way of seeing the game live, no competition as most other sports have been responsibly shut down.Apparently 542,000 watched the match in Melbourne last night. If that’s accurate, that’s the biggest FTA audience for a H/A game since 2013.

TBH, I had the footy on, but wasn’t paying much attention to itLot of the frees were there And many more weren’t paid! Richmond were playing very unsociable footy I thought.

Of course.
People were crying out to see a game in these circumstances. Now we've seen what it looks like.
Some clubs financials will look dire when we get to June.

Was always going to be a ratings bonanza.
If everyone in football was given a year off without rules and procedures from the clubs they'd probably be out in the community even more exposed to it than they are now.
The true test of the ratings will come if the season continues for a couple of more rounds.
9 games a weekend like what we witnessed on Thursday night will become boring very quickly.
Of course last night was going to be a high ratings, the supporters were curious as to what a game would look and feel like under these unique and first time ever circumstances.
It doesn’t seem like the players care too much given they baulked at both the reduced season and the pay cut.
Very bad look
The very same thing I’m thinking, moneyClearly demonstrates their frame of mindset and line of thinking of what is important to them during a pandemic. Money and more accurately lots of it.
The most recent Footy Classified episode is a good watch covering this - for anyone who missed it, can catch up with it at:I think some people are underestimating what a year without games would do to the league and the clubs.
This isn't the NBA where teams are owned by groups of billionaires, and if not them, someone else will step in and buy them.
We are also not just talking about calling off the last few rounds of the year.
The AFL has that future fund of $120 million, it's not much at all when distributed to clubs and the league it's self.
Would anyone here honestly not go into work today if they were getting paid $300,000-$1.2 million a year and had to give that up? To try and avoid the coronavirus? Knowing that your entire industry could collapse leaving paydays like that a thing of the past... There won't be enough handouts to save everybody.
I'm going in for a fraction of that and I'll probably have as much chance catching the coronavirus when I open the office door.
We are still sending 15-16 year old kids to work at supermarkets and fast food restaurants.
At some point a player or official will get it, they will suspend the season or call it off, it won't be some I told you so moment for people who are against it, the AFL/players know this.

If you cut expenses to the bare bones it can survive.if the league is mothballed.I think some people are underestimating what a year without games would do to the league and the clubs.

What is good to watch without a crowd?what last night taught me was that afl is not a great game as most people in this country think it is.
without crowds its actually boring to watch.
The lack of momentum teams get in the last quarter due to the home crowd will definitely have an impact on some teams this season.Interesting g that Carlton scored 8 of their goals from free kicks.
Also interesting that Richmond often burn teams late in quarters. Perhaps 16 minute quarters will have an equalising effect?

You can include a chunk of that audience to the 80 odd thousand people that weren't at the game. The true test of the ratings will come if the season continues for a couple of more rounds.

If players would be out in the community if the AFL wasnt on, that just clearly demonstrates how uninformed and unknowledgeable they are about today pandemic.
Think you find there were no Professional sports People during WW2,I am sure the professional.sports people during WW2 didn't take their full pay. Many were fighting a war.

Whilst not full time, there were paid SANFL and VFL.footballers before WW2.Think you find there were no Professional sports People during WW2,
I think you will find this an interesting read. There were some interesting restrictions in Britain that are similar to our current situation.Think you find there were no Professional sports People during WW2,
