The thing is with the players that have left already, if the new squad numbers go down to 38+2, we're definitely drafting at least three, I believe we need to upgrade Zurhaar and apparently we need to find a spot for Corr... we actually don't have enough senior spots as it is to do those three things.
If you add Corr, we currently have 33 on the senior list.

Campbell a rookie and McGuinness a cat B not included.

BEN BROWN (NM)

Draft picks:
Second-round pick
Value on open market: $550,000-650,000 per season

Rival clubs raised their eyebrows this week at North Melbourne's decision to place Brown on the table publicly. Others believe it will cost the Roos leverage at the bargaining table because he simply can't return to Arden Street. His agent Adam Ramanauskas told RSN on Friday it was a "staggering" call for a player who kicked more goals than any other across 2017-2019. The 27-year-old will have a number of interested parties, however, expect suitors to throw themselves into the Brown market once Joe Daniher and Jeremy Cameron make their calls. The Roos will need to rely on a bidding war to receive adequate compensation.

SHAUN HIGGINS (NM)

Draft picks:
Second-round pick
Value on open market: $400,000-500,000

Told to look elsewhere earlier this month if he wanted to secure his future on a two-year deal. The smooth-moving midfielder, who starts next year at 33, still has one year to run on his contract at the Roos but will weigh up a move elsewhere with Geelong keen and St Kilda registering its interest. His deal for next season at the Roos would be well in excess of $400,000 but another club may smooth it out over a second year to offer career security. It may also see the Roos pay a portion to ensure an adequate trade return.

JARED POLEC (NM)

Draft picks:
Second or third-round pick
Value on open market: $500,000-600,000

Still has three years and upwards of $1.6 million left on a front-ended contract he signed when crossing from Port Adelaide at the end of 2017. Finished seventh in last year's best and fairest but fell out of favour this season and was dropped twice. Provided they're looked after with a reasonable pick, the Roos would be willing to entertain offers for the 27-year-old wingman and pay some of his wage for next season. Now it's about finding the right suitor.
What a load of shit

Ok, so we're exactly on what we need to be for three drafted players and an FA.

Its 32 not including Corr. So yeah, plenty of room for another FA, draftees and even a DFA.

And that's before we factor in Brown, Higgins, Polec and the other guys still without contracts.

This trade period is going to be interesting if we get those types of offers for Brown, Polec & Higgins.

Personally, I think if we are only talking 2nd/3rd round offers, I think there is a high likelihood the only one of those three that we move on is Polec (If in fact the issues are true).

Just think it makes more sense to retain Higgins & sign brown on a 600x2 then go to the draft with a couple picks in what will be the mid 30s.

Only reason I can see them letting Brown go/not matching a contract he gets, for that kind of offer is if they believe he will hinder the development of our kids and cannot function in our forward line.

Regardless, those three players aren’t preventing us from finishing bottom 2-3 next year, so will be interesting to see what Brady does.

If Adelaide bid on JUH it benefits us down the track and we're still picking the second best player.

Adelaide have no power over the money clubs want to pay Crouch. The clubs linked to him don't have the money to boost his compensation that high.

I think his injuries will save us... can't see anyone offering five years for him

Has there been any indication of any kind that the Suns are interested in Brown? They have King in the role that Brown would play.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the trade for Higgins if he goes to the Cats. A rumour that the Saints are having a sniff too. What have they got to offer?

Their first round! And then also won't want Caldwell too so we could grab him?

Who have you traded already? We had 45 inc rookies we have let 11 go so to me that's 34.... 35 if count corr... so if lists are only 40 or 38+2 then we only have 5 spots to fill and at least 3 will be draft.

Its all in the post you quoted. I didn't count Campbell (who is a rookie) and McGuinness (cat B rookie).

I would prefer we increase our draft hand for next year. It is a stronger draft and we will actually see the kids play. A late first in this years draft is a lucky dip.

That works both ways though and a reason I think the club is happy to pick up 8-10 players from the draft. A couple of late picks might be busts but we might also uncover a couple of gems late

We are already positioning ourselves for pick 1 and Horne next year, mate.

Teams expect us to finish last and we will - which is awesome.

Because Horne is the sh*t.
Exactly what I said to my mate at the time re: Horne , his reply was that’s exactly why Adelaide would do the deal . But I will say this ... he’s a big footy nut and watches a tonne of u/18 footy , he’s also bit of a McDonald fan boy ... reckons he’s the next Tom Lynch .

If we have to fill up with DFA’s we are definitely taking the piss and tanking.
Couple with that we may find ourselves on the receiving end of lower memeberships and a very very supported trajectory to Tasmanian.
Careful what you wish for, we can’t afford to bottom out like CarlTank or the GoDees.

Or do nothing and finish Bottom 4 for the foreseeable future. That won't help our membership either

Can't go through all pages, so excuse me if this has already been raised, but if we get a good Goldy offer, would we look at Preuss? Not a great around the ground ruckman but he has the centre square presence to help the young mids.

Ziebell I suspect would be handing over his captaincy title in 2021 unless he get back to top notch form. We cannot have Ziebell cunn8ngton and Dumont in the same team as that would make the team significantly slower.

Dumont is a two way runner and very consistent and at 25 is into his peak. Ziebell is injured and even at full fitness, his disposal skills are sh*t. Cunnington is too slow with suspect disposal skills and with the back injury, won’t get back to full fitness. Z and c are gone as early as 2022. Dumont should be given the captaincy as he’s of the right age and
Position plus he is relatively injury free.

Wouldn't guarantee a position in the 22 let alone captain. Ziebell should keep it while we assess the next gen.

Got to question the negative spin really.
So we are supposed to believe that prior to us publicly shopping Brown around there were no negotiations going on between clubs and player managers at all. I feel pretty confident that the club would have tried all avenues and tactics to get the best return, for example dropping him to signal that perhaps he was gettible and then waiting to see if an offer came. Clubs have been using these tactics for years.

Advising members is called being pro active in terms of PR and trying to have some control of the narrative it has zero affect on a players worth.
As we all know the AFL media are so corrupt and biased that it’s just not worth even hoping for so sort of even approach toward our club. Going by the article comparison to our players Nankervis is worth an early second round pick, go figure.
let the scribes scribe with there poison pens and take it all with a grain of salt and more importantly have trust in Rawlings and Co.

Higgins and Polec trade value looks spot on, Brown could get to a late 1st if there is bidding. Suppose Cameron stays as is expected to, Danniher far more valuable and 'talented' based on reputation and name. North will accept brown's trade at a loss as the club is basically saying 'a decision has been made' and it wants Brown gone. Most can't get over this and want to continously bring up 60 goals for 3 years. It means not a lot, how many goals is irrelevant to the type of role Brown could play. Brown might have kicked more goals but he played a far less important role for the club than a Cameron, Kennedy, Franklin, Hawkin because the latter 4 mentioned were spearhead, Brown isn't one. If we look at his career, he was never the spearhead but no. 2. He was the 3rd fiddle after waite and petrie in 2015 and 16. Played 2nd tall to waite in 17 and 18. He was only thriving in 19 because Larkey was in good form. This is the reason why we only get 2nd rounder. 3 lots of 2nd rounder, could even trade two of them for a late first and use the third to trade for Wright who is more solid and perform a role in the goal square.
