The calls that Higgins is worth a first rounder from Geelong are embarrassing to say the least. Packaging him with Polec for a first rounder at least resembles something within the realms of possibility.

Why packaging with Polec though.... no interest for Geelong for Polec though is there.... they have enough outside with menegola and Duncan

It depends.

Most AFL supporters just see the highest pick connected to a trade and go "LolZ Higgins for a first rounder?!?"

Higgins + #25 for any of their picks is a perfectly reasonable deal.

They pretty much amount to pick 30+ in points.

The trade you have suggested is totally fine. The problem is most of the calls that I've seen around here after last nights game is that Higgins is flat out worth a Geelong 1st rounder in a straight swap.

But this'd be like death riding the campaigners and getting paid to do it.....

Exactly! Win Win!
Now if we can only get it while giving them someone like Mason Wood it would be perfect...

Any pacey small forwards/defenders?

Lonie's been mentioned a few times but I'm unsure to his pace. Matthew Parker is one that doesn't look like he can squeeze in, not the best 2020 but I recall his debut season he showed a lot of mongrel. Limited but if he was a squad size squeeze out he looks like he works hard.

I thought he had a good year for Sth Freo before he was drafted:

AFL draft 2018: Tears of joy for Matthew Parker after St Kilda offer a draft lifeline

Mark Duffield
The West Australian
Sat, 24 November 2018

There was tossing and turning on Thursday night, tears of joy yesterday morning and still some disbelief for South Fremantle’s mature-age draftee Matthew Parker after he was snared by St Kilda.
Parker, 22, who was persuaded to give football a serious shot by Bulldogs teammate Marlion Pickett in 2017, was selected at pick 47 yesterday.
He had enjoyed a stress-free evening on Thursday watching the first round of the draft unfold, knowing he wouldn’t get picked that early.

But the nerves set in when he went to bed ahead of a sleepless night and he was overcome with emotion — and disbelief — when his name was read out.
Not for the first time in recent weeks, Parker is struggling to believe this is really happening to him.
The former Melville junior had endured troubled teenage years and hadn’t knuckled down to taking football seriously until urged to do so by Pickett and former South Fremantle star Tim Kelly, who had a stunning first AFL season at Geelong.
They were the guides and inspiration for his football rebirth which suddenly came within reach yesterday.
“I tossed and turned all night,” he said.
“I was thinking I might be going in the rookie draft, something like that.
“Being the first mature-age player from WA to go in the draft just tops it off. My job now is to go after it, 110 per cent.
“I had just had a shower and had come out and was sitting there watching the draft and the Saints pick came around ... they said my name and I didn’t believe it.
“I said to my partner Shardah ‘they didn’t just say my name, did they?’ She just screamed and fell off the chair and the phone went crazy. I am still sitting here now thinking they didn’t call my name out.
“I burst into tears. The enjoyment is over the moon at the moment. To think that me of all people gets this opportunity.”
Parker had, with the help of Pickett, got a foot in the door at South Fremantle in 2017.
He has now played 27 senior games, kicked 39 goals and at 187cm and 79kg was one of the most explosive forwards in the WAFL this year.
Saints coach Alan Richardson believes his athletic pace and power will suit Marvel Stadium, St Kilda’s home ground.

“He had watched vision of me and he felt that the ground will suit my game,” Parker said.
“They took a chance on me and now it is my turn to repay them. I just have to give it everything and leave nothing out there.
“It isn’t just for me, it is for my boy Matty Jr and my partner — she is still in tears — as well as the Saints because they have given me this opportunity.
“I have never had stuff like this happen to me. The world is in my hands now.”
The sad irony is that Pickett, a 26-year-old mentor for Parker who had a stellar year for South Fremantle, wasn’t picked up, despite interest from Gold Coast, St Kilda, West Coast and Geelong.

Long and Hind decent options as well.

He also looks like hard work i.e. loose...

Yeah, he's probably one of those book/cover analogies, seems to have his heart really in the game. Anyway, it's not any info I have, just looking at blokes on their list who look like they have something to give.

Brown and 9 for 6 and ‘21 First

Lonie is for the tip
Why would we give up Brown and lose a top ten pick in the process? He is worth six on its own plus something. I wouldn't be gambling on them not making finals in '21 with Brown on board either. He'd be worth at least another twenty five goals to them over the season IMO.

Let's face it, Brown to Essendon could end their finals winning drought. They need to pay thru the nose for that.

I'll answer that myself no not Victorian.... AFL app has been updated you used to be able to go into a player as see when they were taken and in what draft year.... if anyone knows where this has been moved to let me know! I always found that interesting reading

It wouldn't be. It would be upgrading our 2020 pick to six, and getting a first round in 2021. I think it's pretty fair for both parties.

Ferbs - its a first rounder next year from them plus an upgrade on our first this year - ie we net a first rounder plus some.

We would get 2 picks inside 6 this year (2 and 6) and most likely have 2 picks inside 6 next year.

It's a fair deal.

I'm not sure Brown would be a great fit. I think Rutten has a fantasy about being mini Richmond. Wouldn't give him a lot of room to work, plus I'm not sure if * have another decent KF that he needs to work with.

Anyway, I hope you're right and they cough up.

Not losing a Top ten pick. You're getting 6 for our 9 then their 2021 1st for Ben.

I like this deal which most likely means there is no way of it happening

I would say he’s definitely worth more to them - and us - than their second, which currently sits at 33. Again, if they want him it’s for a reason. There have been some good picks in the 30-36 range over the last 5 years or so but they’re the minority. You might back yourself to pick up a Perez, but you’re just as likely to get a Joe Atley or Josh Williams or Brayden Sier. While there is a whiff of fire sale around the joint, we don’t need to dump salary or clear list spots, he’d be valuable veteran leadership if he stays.

Its amazing but i guesstimate at least 50% of supporters do exactly this. Its probably 50% of the populations tbh, you see it time and time again with almost any subject.

If it increases the chances of use getting any combo of McDonald, Hollands, Phillips, Cox, Thilthorpe I am all for it.

Also, could we use 6 to bid on Campbell instead of two? or is that not how it works?...There is something about him that seems just super impressive.

If he hasn't been picked up yet, yes of course you could. However Swans would already have used their first pick by then so it won't cost them as much

44 (38/40,4/2 Cat A, 2 Cat B)

CLUBS are preparing for a small trim to playing list sizes for next season ahead of potential further cuts in the following years.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the AFL and AFL Players' Association, but it's looking increasingly likely there will be 42 players on lists in 2021, plus up to two Category B rookies.

That would be down from 44 this year, with three Category B rookies, a status designated to international and alternative talent prospects.
