I doubt it is about not wanting to pay the money.

PSD pick 2 and cap space? I don't see how we wouldn't do it.

We have cap space but we still need to keep realistic with what we are offering in wages. It will set up a dangerous precedent going fwd.... imagine what Cripps is going to ask for if Williams is brought in on 950k for a part time mid

I'd be looking to get him on a hbf or rotating through the mids where he can use his pace. He's got issues with his disposal at speed, but still has time on his side to clean that up. IMO Carlton have ballsed up Dow's development by shoehorning him into a forward pocket and then an inside mid.

Honestly though we shouldn't be looking at players to slot in to positions next season, we should be trying to accumulate as much young talent that can develop with our young core. Especially if we can pick up that talent cheaply.

Keep in mind, with list cuts this year there is likely going to be a ton of fringe, young talent available for cheap as contending sides will prioritize their mature players to keep contending.

Agree with all this other than list cuts. I'm not expecting this to be considerable at all. Latest talk is what 40 plus 2 rookies... we had 40 plus 4 plus one

I'm not understanding what happens behind the scenes if a wanted player ends up going to the PSD.

Like why would any club (with an earlier pick) spend that on a player that doesn't want to be at their club?

Money will obviously dictate the club you end up choosing (for some players more than others) but surely there's an element of WANTING to be at that club as well.

We have to be right in the mix for when Carlton split their pick 7.

Potential solution

North trade Brown to Collingwood for pick 15

Carlton trade pick 7 to North for pick 15 and pick 25

Carlton trade pick 15 for Saad.

North enter draft with picks 2, 7, 9

So Brown + #25 for #7?

Maybe.

I'd reckon most of the kids picked in the National draft end up somewhere that wasn't their #1 choice. Tom Papley didn't want to be at Sydney this year and ended up in the AA squad (probably a discredited measure of a successful year, but in any event - Papley went OK) and now wants to stay there.

Saad may want to sabotage his own career by knocking back the $650k, refusing to play or going around half-arsed, but I'd doubt it.

Probably a moot point anyway. Although * played the tough guy when Daniher wanted out last year, I can't see them not getting this deal done.

If they walk him to the PSD then they know we showed a lot of interest and will be waiting to ponce. They get nothing.

Playing the trade "tough guy" is suicidal when the list is falling apart.

They will do the trade for pick 7, and something will go back Carlton's way (2021 2nd round pick?).

I'm hearing more and more that Polec is staying... Makes me think he probably hasn't got any suitors.

If I put a positive spin on it, I'd say it's a chance all we got in terms of offers were late picks and the club is not keen on him walking for pick 60, which should calm some of the hysteria.

What about the spin I have mentioned before. We have front loaded his cak therefore why get rid when we have prepaid for his services? Doesn't make sense to me

When did Saad become an A graded? I might be wrong but I won't be giving up a top 10 pick.

* gave up a future 2nd to get him which ended up being 35.

He is 3 years older and I don't think he has improved that much that he is worth pick 7.

He'd be lucky to be worth pick 20. But Dodo is an absolute pelican at the trade table. So doesn't surprise me thats what they expect for someone that wants out. I hope Carlton walk him to the PSD just to **** over Essendon.

North trade Brown to Collingwood for pick 15

Carlton trade pick 7 to North for pick 15 and pick 25

Carlton trade pick 15 for Saad.

North enter draft with picks 2, 7, 9

This isn't a bad option. However, I'd be trying to keep pick 25, and send our future 2nd round pick. then we could have 2,7,9,25.

The only concern is, I don't think Collingwood will have the cap space for Brown. Unless they offload DeGoey.

I'll take that! Depending what else on top of higgo they will give up but really doesn't make sense then swapping higgo for Clark? Clark additional depth for wings with Polec and Scott tick

If fit, Clark would play in Round 1 for us.

As DesertRoo said, I can't see Geelong letting him go, even for Higgins and a mid-range pick

Jordan Clarke is a 19 year old high draft pick, who’s played 20 odd games... do people really think the cats would offer him with their list profile?

Sell them on the fact that Higgins will be better in the last 2 productive years of dangermouse, Hawkins, Duncan etc.
