FFS just give Lonie the 2nd year

CLUBS CIRCLE SAINT LONIE

Jack Lonie has as many as four suitors – three from Victoria – as he attempts to secure a two-season deal from the Saints.

Heading into the final against Richmond Lonie had played 12 games for 46 score involvements and a dozen goals as one of the success stories for Brett Ratten’s Saints.

But he has been offered only a one-season deal and would want enough security in a two-season deal to stay put.

The Bulldogs are one of those teams keen to add some bite to their half forward line as Cody Weightman takes time to mature, with Tory Dickson having retired and Ben Cavarra having failed to make an impact after being recruited from the VFL.

St Kilda’s Shane Savage, coming in for only his second game of the season for the final given Ben Long’s suspension, has interest from rival clubs and will likely move on after this season.

Can't quite understand why we wouldnt be giving Lonie 2 years. Has been really good in the back half of this year.
Proven he can play in the same team as Butler. He is the #2 small fwd for us IMO, even with Gresh in the team.
Sooner let Parker and Kent go.

Can understand Savage exploring options and dont imagine he has more than a base level 1 year contract offered to him, if that.

Yeah, not really interested in Dev Smith.

In the FoxSports article they said Tippa is unhappy about the club’s performance and direction too. I’d get in his ear for sure and try to entice him to move.
Feel like Ratts woule love Tippa. He loves having three small forwards in the team. Butler, Lonie and Tippa. Would be dangerous.

The problem with Parker and Kent is they are Parker and Kent. They aren’t really worth much for us. Well except for their surnames. I kind of like the superhero theme we have going on.

OK guys, Max the Great has posted his apologies, no need to keep at him.

The thing about this place is that we are all passionate Saints nuffies, we all want to hear what potentially is happening at the club and so people from various sources hear stuff and want to pass it on for all to get a bit excited about.
A number of people have have mentioned on here about something brewing with GWS, others specifically Caldwell, I have had PM's on the subject. Does it mean it will 100% occur? Not at all.
Take the Kelly case, much like we are hearing about Caldwell, a number of sources said he was over the line. Turns out he wasn't, doesn't mean they were making it up. sh*t happens.
I am no ITK, have never said I know inside stuff, but I got info on the Ben King GC deal from an unimpeachable source, and today still get hounded by a certain poster on here if I mention it. No wonder Stav and MG don't post often. People, they are not trolls like johnyrayflamingo, they have been about for years.
The place would be very boring without a tidbit of information here and there.
Just remember as I said this is bigfooty, football nuffie land, just to show how we all love our team and crave info, I posted details of my family member drafted in the AFLW to the Dogs board. They were appreciative as it had a particular Bulldogs history and bent, and they, just like the rest of us on Bigfooty love their club and crave to hear about the players.

Good post. Seems like you are auditioning for a mod spot.
Should George be watching his back? 🤣

Wouldn’t expect Lonie to stay for a one year deal - it’s a bit of a lowball offer to be honest.
Not surprised Sav will move on either, Good luck to him. Think it’s best for him and won’t harm us.

The only reason we wouldn’t be giving Lonie an extra year is because we anticipate bringing in some established players that will push him out of the best 22.
We’ve seen the mistake of contracting fringe players for long periods in Dan McKenzie.
Maybe he is worth more to someone else, and maybe they’ll pay for him accordingly. I don’t necessarily want to lose him, but you’d hate to have $300k that he’d demand running around in the twos.

i'd rather tippa over devon smith. tippa would seriously give us something special inside 50 to go with king

I'm not confident that we will. Seems simple enough to do yet to only offer him 1 year in the first place seems off considering how important he has been to the fwd line.

We might be more enticed with a pick without realising what a big loss he would be.

Or maybe its because we’re expecting more mids and Gresh to play more forward?
All I know is nobody could understand why we were letting Bruce go and it has harmed us not at all. Pretty sure they would have a plan in place and not just get tempted by a pick, which in all likelihood would not be a very good one for him anyway.
Having said that, I like Lonie and wouldn’t mind him staying.

I don’t think you understand how tight their salary cap is. And they still haven’t re-sighed Moore, De goey and Mihochek yet. They have massive cap issues.

OK, well then we’d rather take one of those three, please and thank you.

I’m more surprised Savage has interest from other clubs

I’m glad he does. Has been squeezed out of our best but I think still has a bit to offer for the right club. He’s played 100+ with us so his boys are F/S chances, wish him the best of luck at finding a new home where he can play seniors more regularly.

North need someone to play each week, otherwise they forfeit.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch by _Maximus_12

Savage could also move north for the Heeney deal ;)

Two years at 200k. Boom.

Don’t we need to trade in second round draft pick this year if we trade our first (Caldwell)? Maybe that’s why Lonie is on the table?
