Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

This is interesting.

I wish we got more of this sort of stuff from all clubs. It’s one thing the AFL are really quite poor at.

THats interesting. If thats true we got lucky in 04 with both our talls being generational players. Also says that NM strategy of taking mids at the top of the draft might not be as stupid as many here said

I suspect that talls may dominate in the junior leagues as they have a big height advantage over their smaller peers but you need competitiveness and body size (not just height) to compete at senior levels i.e. compete against men, not boys. Schache and Shoey have lacked the competitive nature despite their height as examples.

Some of the behind the scenes footage from the draft that the NFL sides released was simply awesome to watch.

Coaches and GM's were making calls to propose pick swaps, phones were going off, teams were trading up/down, they were talking about their draft board, the players in their sights and what they thought other teams would do. Of course they also had the owners there and they'd all call the draftees after being selected.

I doubt our drafts will ever be as exciting as the NFL's, but they could learn a thing or two about how they present it.

Really like James tunstill from East Perth at our 24 . Good size inside mid who is also competent on the outside. I went back and watched the first Wa vs Sa and thought he was very good. He is from Busselton which is a 2.5 hour drive from Perth one way so I doubt he would of been training with the team all year and just rocked up for games.

I like the look of Tunstill as well but I think Hawks could take someone else at 24 and still get him at a later pick.

Is he from Busselton, or did he live in Busselton & drive to Perth to train & play 4-5 days a week?

I'll hazard that he is from Busselton, but lived in Perth during the season (if not full time).

You could be right. I thought I had read him and jye amiss were only driving up for the games.

Could well be mate, I was just asking if that were the case.

I've known a few elite sports people from Bunbury, who had a pretty well established network up in Perth. They lived in Perth & boarded or billeted to train/compete, then often returned home for weekends etc.

I don't know about these guys, but I'm sure the network exists for them as well (if they wanted it).

Thats a tough ask for 17 year olds.

Pretty tough for 12yr olds in Boarding School, too. But plenty of country kids do it to give themselves more opportunity.

*they've often got family in Perth so staying with others often means cousins of similar age etc.

From Bussleton like Amiss, they did the drives up together

Leek alleer has set a national combine record for the running vertical

107cm!!!!!!!!!!!

nic nat had a 102cm.

We will be lucky to see this kid at our second rounders tbh. That's insane athleticism 🦘

Jason Horne-Francis is the AFL's hottest draft prospect — and he's ready to become a Kangaroo - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-16/jason-horne-francis-afl-draft-combine-north-melbourne/100545046
Would need to see him add some strings to his bow. All he has is marking which down back we have plenty of. We are a list crying out for mids.

Neither can Frost or Hartigan, they're worse, but they still contribute.
CJ really couldn't kick a few years ago. Just need to get it to a 'not horrible' level.

The kid jumped 5cm higher than nic nat...! That's insane.

Plus he already has good judgement, body control and sticky hands.

Worry about the rest later imo.

Each to their own, but I'll be pumped if he's a hawk.

.

He can’t kick.
Don't let him leave the Goal Square.
Even if he kicks 50%, with that leap, he'll still kick his 4 each week!

Seriously though, stuff his kicking - let opposition coaches worry about why their Ruckman/FF can't get a kick with Aleer towelling them up!
