After being touted as a possible top 10 pick after his Nationals performance.
West AdelaideWhy ? .....I thought this subject of players abandoning clubs after their initial 2 year contract was not acceptableGee you say some weird things sometimes.
I'm sure every prospective young footballer loves the experience of spending time in a professional environment.
I just think this is a non-issue. Local players drafted to the Crows or Port just don't change to the other side.

Stephens plays 14 games in his first 2 years .....not enough says he, the entitled one
So instead of putting his head down, improve his game and fight for his spot in the team .....he looks to jump ship on a club that is the envy of the league this year
Is he looking for guaranteed games or a big pay check after only 2 years ? ......but people forget all those analytics, and what they've said about the likes of Gunston leaving ....because this time it suits us

West AdelaideAs long as you hold the same view if say a Pedlar leaves at the end of next yearProbably a regular best 22 spot if anything.
I have no genuine issue with it. You don't have a lot of time to make it as a footballer (let's say 4-5 years, tops), so there is no point grinding away at a club for loyalty sake if you can get a better shot at a gig elsewhere.

West AdelaideThis is a player issue, not a club issue .....can't blame SYD for Stephens jumping shipI'll gladly tear into the club if Pedlar leaves, but there would be no animosity towards Pedlar himself if it happens.
After all, it's on the club to prioritise their talented kids.
I genuinely chuckled at that reference to Downsborough - obscure but quite on pointFabian Francis?
What did he play - maybe four years?
Not sure if the "your step dad played here for a handful of years two decades ago" is a massive lure.
I guess if Port got Ian Downsborough's kid, we could do a trade.
Maybe. And maybe do a Brett Chalmers, given his family's Port Adelaide heritage?

Gunston won three premierships and was in the running for a Norm? When was he exposed in finals? This is a player issue, not a club issue .....can't blame SYD for Stephens jumping ship
The same as you couldn't blame the Crows for Gunston doing the dirty ......you're trying to say it's a club issue to pander to entitled players .....I disagree vehemently, as it shows a weakness of character that will inevitably be exposed in a Final
Maybe he meant exposed "to" finals.Gunston won three premierships and was in the running for a Norm? When was he exposed in finals?

If every club had 7 & 9 you might hit one that sees another player in Horne league and gap to the rest who might do the trade. But the likelihood of the one club with those picks seeing it that way is pretty slim.
Strange don't you think that Ed Pascoe with the resources that AFL Draft Central have at their fingertips doesn't have access to these "testing results"?
Can't seem to find them on the SANFL or Panthers website?
Off topic, have you seen much of Nasiah Wanganeen? His name has been popping up a bit on Road to the Draft lately so I checked him out. Seems to play wing almost exclusively from what i've seen, and like's to use his low kick (actually thought he kicked a lot like Milera from the tape). Seemed like a smooth mover, but in the clips I saw didn't play with a lot of urgency, more of a cruiser. After being touted as a possible top 10 pick after his Nationals performance.
I think your definition is pretty much on point, ridiculously talented skills wise and athletically gifted but very outside from what I've seen.Off topic, have you seen much of Nasiah Wanganeen? Did you also notice Bangers reference to Blayne O'Loughlin's game re being more accountable for his opponent so it's pretty obvious he's seen what a lot of draft watchers have also picked up on as a weakness in his game?Going back to Dudley, I have not seen him play live but in terms of his talent level, where does he sit when compared to Rankine in terms of pure talent - not worrying about commitment etc, just pure talent?
The thinking here is that if he is as highly talented as what Bamford is alluding to, surely the club would have it much easier taking Dudley and moving on
Lovely young player who plays exclusively as a wing. The thing I’ve noticed that I like is that he tracks back well and helps out defensively. Good engine and a good sign that he isn’t just a one way player.Off topic, have you seen much of Nasiah Wanganeen? His name has been popping up a bit on Road to the Draft lately so I checked him out. Didn't notice the 2 way running but its a good trait to have as a underage winger. I don't mind him being a professional wingman, but would also like to see him reach his top gear a few more times before the draft hits. In the clips i've seen I don't think i've seen him really bust a line, or cut open a team with dashing run yet, which is a trait I personally like in outside mids.Lovely young player who plays exclusively as a wing. I liked Bamfords comments about him. I think it was Bamford. Saying he’s a wing. No point trying to turn an apple into an orange, best accept what he is and use what he does do to best effect. I think the ability to position correctly and always find space as an outlet is underrated. No point having 18 inside gorillas.
You are of course 100% correct. We are picking and choosing when it suits us.Why ? .....I thought this subject of players abandoning clubs after their initial 2 year contract was not acceptable

He's certainly got some nice tools that are quite attractive, but yeah I also could see a reality where he became one of those guys who doesn't step up to the next level as well.I think your definition is pretty much on point, ridiculously talented skills wise and athletically gifted but very outside from what I've seen.
Could be a boom or bust type?
Gunston did not leave because of any lack of opportunities. This is a player issue, not a club issue .....can't blame SYD for Stephens jumping ship

West AdelaideNo, that was probably a bad example, but was top of mind ....but you know what I meanGunston did not leave because of any lack of opportunities.
West AdelaideWe thought we were on the good end of Hately jumping ship too ? ......still interesting the drums are not beating that loudly about Stephens to the CrowsYou are of course 100% correct. We are picking and choosing when it suits us.
I think all are against the idea that players can up and leave after 2 years, but, having been on the end of it in the past, it's logical that we might want to also be on the good end of it now.
I've had a bit to do with Dylan in the past. He was a great lad. Confident in his ability, but pretty humble. I'd be surprised if this was the case, but being a high draft pick might have changed that.We thought we were on the good end of Hately jumping ship too ? ......still interesting the drums are not beating that loudly about Stephens to the Crows
My "soft" take is Stephens has a pretty high opinion of himself ....and his ego has been hurt due to non selection
