Never in all my years of following footy at AFL level have i so wanted the season over to get to trade and draft time. It literally feels like we are just playing out time until we get there as it feels like there is so little to really get excited about on the field in these last 6 rounds. Team getting banged up with injury, kids are tired and old stagers getting played who may be gone next year. Ho hum

Doubt it, doesn't really have the explosiveness about his game of the likes of Kosi or Charlie but nonetheless I'd draft him just not sure about his commitment to get the best out of himself, being in n AFL system should help so we'll have to rely on Hamish and our Academy team to be across that.
Being in an AFL system doesn't always help build commitment to get the best out of yourself

For me it's either part of your DNA, or it's not

If its not its extremely difficult to flick this switch with a player even once they are in an AFL system

More than happy for Dudley to slot into our squad come draft time. Has bags of talent.

Agree on Ferres too, seen a bit of him over the last few weeks.

A player I hadn't really taken that much notice of before last night Luca Whitelum impressed me with his composure and what look to be decent foot skills so he's one I'll be keeping a closer eye on as the season progresses, nice size and looks competent above his head with neat all round skills.

Anyone watch college footy here seen him play for Sacred Heart I'd be interested in their take?

I saw him play once for SH. I must be honest and say he wasn’t on my radar at all to have a look at and my bias was toward watching others. He played forward and kicked 3 goals. He was Robin to Jaiden Magors Batman that day who kicked 4 and starred.

Luca has kicked 10 in total for the first 4 games and been either very quiet or possibly injured for the next 2 games.

I have questions about the actual defensive/accountability for his opponent side of his game at the next level, not going to be allowed to run around like an unregistered dog in the big time.
Saw the game and can’t see him being drafted

Agree - he’s a very clever player but at his height and without that top end speed it’s going to be hard for him

I reckon he’s a rookie or late pick at best

definitely won’t go early despite his talent

More than happy to take the chance on him if he does fall that far.

I've only seen him play twice now but he does have that ability to still pressure players despite not having pace. Betts is able to do this. I don't even know how that really works, but maybe just picks the right times when to go and when not to? Rather than just go all the time.

Ben Keays ran a 3.18 second 20m sprint at his combine. Also came 6th in the 3km time trial. In games you don't notice that his speed is holding him back because his tank allows him to maintain that speed for the whole game and not really get much slower when others around him are fading.

A faster guy like a Charlie Cameron who has electric pace told Fagan this year he didn't want to do any midfield rotations because he lost all power for his forward craft. He has 3 or 4 sprint efforts in him for a game, and then after that he is a lot slower. If they both played the same minutes in the middle during a cold, wet, muddy game, Keays might be out-sprinting Cameron at the end of quarters.

It also depends on how fast a player can accelerate up to their top speed. A shorter player might get to his top speed within 10 steps from standing. A taller player might take 15 steps but at the top end might be 3kmph faster than the shorter player. I remember when Majak Daw won the AFL grand final sprint, and also when he clocked the top speed in the AFL in game on the GPS trackers. I think his 20m combine sprint was 3.03, but I don't think you generally thought of him as an electric sprinter on a football field.

+ Positioning smarts: knowing which lines to run to cut off angles that the opposition player wants to take, knowing which foot he is likely to kick with, knowing which outlet he is likely to take and cutting that off. "Corralling" the player into a defensible position.

That’s at junior football level , the key is how his game translates

just means he won’t be an early pick and might be a rookie pick , doesn’t mean he won’t get taken at all

Kozzy Pickett for example didn’t get much of the ball but his pressure game was at an AFL level before he was drafted and the speed / agility mix he has enabled him to take to AFL football v quickly

All good points but need to take into consideration role …. If Dudley will be playing similar forward role to Charlie Cameron then he needs that sort of speed

maybe he’s not a small forward at AFL level and his best chance is to use in his smarts around the ball more eg a Caleb Daniel

Big day for the Jason Horne fanciers. Within reach now IF we lose all remaining games and North beat either Essendon or Carlton. I think they are the only realistic chances.

But for the record, I’ll put my old wrinklies on the line right now and say I think Matty Roberts will end up the more complete player.

Massive call that.

Don't necessarily think you're wrong but I'd be interested to know why

Better kick by a fair margin is one area that stands out as a point of difference between the pair.
