I know the umpiring was bullshit. I just don't think it affected the result. We were outplayed. I've come to terms with it.

maybe..but had we gone into half time with a 4 goal lead say, would that have given us extra confidence? - who knows. All I know is the umpires made sure in that first half that Richmond were not going to be allowed to go behind and the rest is history

The West Australian understands Fremantle has received approval for the talented goal kicker, who kicked two goals in a sparkling senior debut for South Fremantle this month, to be part of their metropolitan Indigenous development zone.

The AFL last year changed the Next Generation Academy rules to mean clubs would only have the right to match a bid on their academy players outside the first 20 picks this year, and the first 40 picks next year and beyond. The changes were made partially in response to pressure from rival clubs after Western Bulldogs academy prospect Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was taken with the No.1 pick.

The little-known ruling which affects Motlop is understood to apply to all metro-based Indigenous academy prospects, who will all be available to any club within the first 40 picks this year. The only one in the same bracket is Dusty. And that's more to do with his forward work on the big stage than his midfield work.

OK so I know I'm asking Santa for too much but I think my preferred draftees since I can't have what I really want, is Roberts and Draper - very keen on Draper I think he has a huge upside currently 185-86cm and reasonably late to footy but starting to bloom, probably over shadowed by team mates. Robert's use of the ball is impressive also has the class to become an outstanding footballer.

Yes it is biased somewhat by the SA factor and the Crow supporting element but I think to build a young strong group this really is valuable - not saying go 100% SA but if we have the undeniable top end talent grab it and build.

Would leave us with Cook, Roberts and Draper of the current South crop, with a chance at Verrall next year.

Jeeez how did Allen last to 21? For those draft watchers out there what was the knock on him?

I know I wanted him with our first before the season ended it was a toss up between Balta and Allen I thought we needed a tall but that was in the late teens before we traded it for Gibbs, even when we got 12 for Charlie I assume Fog would be gone by that point I still wanted Allen or Balta there so it was around the late 1st to early 2nd round he was thought to go.

He was just a lanky kid back then, but could play either end. Hadn't nailed down a position so was switched alot so consistency wasn't as good.

One can only assume no Vic clubs are affected by this rule change, but we won't do the same for FS, you can still have these guys at pick 1 without any questions asked.

Last year we should have taken faster/stronger/taller Beau McCreey over Rowe when we had the chance.
If we'd known that Talia was going to go down in 2021 (hindsight), then Tom Highmore at the very next pick would have been an even smarter choice and an upgrade on our other KPDs (Butts possibly excepted).
Finally lowly Pick 75 in 2016 that was used speculatively on Ben Davis, could have been Panther Sam Draper ..... that would now give us a strong tall ruckman with a big leap and huge upside with ROB left as mere trade bait.

The challenge for next year is to get both M Roberts and A Draper - given our unwillingness to tank for J Horne.

We seemed to do ok in 2017 with Matt, Brad and Sloane in there most of the time.

In 2017, Greenwood and CEY (our two 190cm+ mids) played a combined 15 games

In 2018 and 2019, they averaged 30 games between them.

2018 and 2019 must have been great years.

You can choose to try and dispute the facts and logic with BS red herrings and ignore all the information.
So who won the flag and norm smith medal?
Trying to compare to Greenwood and CEY pick 64 ands a rookie to top end draft picks shows how desperate you are to keep your views and that's your choice. Never let facts get in the way of a good story.

For all the smaller midfielders they are poorly represented on GF day with the Norm Smith and that's highly likely to continue this year.
Interesting GAJ isn't there but 2 of his bigger mates are.

Rather than take away the right to match picks for NGAs in the draft, the AFL should have just taken away the 20% discount. You want him, you pay full points value for the pick particularly for the 1st round.

That would be fair enough for identifying and developing a high draft pick.

It seems reasonable that cases such as Borlaise got weeded out from the NGA process - he never should have been an NGA by a quirk of his Egypt birthplace On the contrary, African or Asian migrants/refugees, who are relatively new to game, are what it should be about. Ditto Irish or US try outs and obviously country-based indigenous kids.

Given the crazy positive enthusiasm for tallish mid Elijah Hollands on here last year, why not make it clear to his management that we want him at the Crows and that we will pay what GCS cannot match for his services in 2023 (assuming he goes out of contract at the end of 2022). We really wanted you last year, but we had to take Riley first, we couldn't trade up and you were gone by our second Pedlar pick.

He would have to come much cheaper in $$$ and picks than either Rankine or Lukosius who might be better left for later FA. He should find it much easier to break into our midfield/half forward roles, even in 2023.

Last year was the big chance for South. Jason Rowe killed it through an inspirational effort for WWT in the PF. Unfortunately that probably help get him draft to the Crows.

How about we wait and see Lij show some really decent AFL form post ACL before we do that?

Promising on the weekend in the VFL but it was against the Apsley Hornets after all, a team made up of AFL delistees and local level footballers.
