I still think the best play for us is to trade 4, 37 and future 3rd to Richmond for 7, 15 and 28.

We trade 15 to Sydney for Dawson & Stephens.

Use pick 7 in the draft. Try to trade picks 23 and 28 for a mid teen pick (maybe Bulldogs?)

Gives us pick 7 (Draper), Dawson, Stephens & pick 17 (Campbell Chesser)

That would really stock us up on outside mids with speed and skills. It would complement our other young mids (Berry, Pedlar, Hately etc) really well.

You would think Richmond would be keen. 15 is better than what Port will offer for Dawson (unless they add a player). Adding Stephens seems a bit much for us though, but hey, I'm greedy.

The players I picked are just those rated as around our pick and of a type that might suit. No idea who we would actually be keen on obviously.

I really like it - but I'm not sure Richmond goes for it. They're possibly considering their own rebuild and would like those picks for the same reason everyone will like those picks.

Horne is a super prospect no doubt. I have been to a few NWM matches and in the flesh he is exciting to watch. I'd take both. I'm picking the higher ceiling guy because this is Bigfooty.
You might be right but quite a few of the flashier very outside players find it a struggle to transition to the AFL level when they have to be accountable for their opponent. His contested possession vs uncontested possession rate will have to change quite a bit to be an outstanding success at AFL level. Of course that's very possible but no guarantee. Lochie O'Brien of recent times is an example for a very outside junior that's found the going tough at the top level

Spot on ...

I'm not seeing it that way, Powa had their big chance with the aging A graders approaching the end and blew it big big time, you might see it differently but it's going to take some real nifty list management to keep them in the window for the next 5 years let alone ten.

Correct, their cliff is approaching fast and could start as soon as next season if trauma from choking in two PF’S impacts playing group next year. Im sensing a Crows level implosion happening at that club soon impacting both on & off field. If Dawson is smart and is properly advised, he should short term vs long term. IMO long term we will be a better proposition than Powa

Pretty good proposal, as in around the ballpark with accuracy. I still reckon dont worry about doing these too much yet, need to wait and see what compo picks we'll get. Still 3 or 4 weeks away on that I think.

To be a Charlie Cameron type you need to be an absolute monster on the defensive side of things. Firmly deserves to be considered a part of the Brisbane cake.

Rozee is closer to Fantasia than Cameron, but even that's a tad harsh. Port will be hoping he can be their next Gray.

Not sure why but the thought of Rozee & Rankine in same forward line has me drooling… 🤤

I'm not sure we will get any compo picks. Nothing for Lynch and Talia as they will be delisted.
Kelly is 4th round at best. Can't see it having any influence on our movements.

Quite possibly. But they will probably also think that with Martin back, they will be in the hunt again. A player at pick 4 has a higher chance of impacting straight away, so they might be willing to go for it.

Parish broke out in year 6
Petracca year 5
Steele went from 22 disposals to 29 in year 7
Zorko, Kelly, Menegola, Barlow where how old?

Maybe going a bit early calling 2nd-3rd year players busts.
Yea I said this a while ago. Petracca was just an average AFL player before last season

some players just get to that age where they flick the switch

No such thing as 4th round compensation. Band 5 is immediately after your 3rd round pick. Band 4 is end of second round. Only 4 picks different in our case, and likely one of those two.

It would probably explain why the Crows kept faith with Mackay and had him on our list for all this time.

IMHO Mackay was just starting to hit his straps too .....his sacking was a travesty, I'm still emotional :moustache:

Its a raw time for us all, Mackay showed heaps of potential in 2021.
Surely another couple of preseasons in the gym would have seen him take his game to another level. Strange decision by the club.

No arguments here. Just look at all finals ever. Contested ball is king. As a side note, watch the SANFL finals series, NWM is right in the zone to do a Rozee in 2018 and star, rocketing up the draft boards.

It's easy to see the flashy, smooth moving play of NWM in a junior match, with nay an opposition player near him ......most look good in circle work

The question is not selecting players for home & away games ....but who will standup under Finals like pressure, where you have very little space

Have we seen NWM tackle anyone ? ......remember why we got rid of Rory Atkins ....why Mackay was disliked by so many .....supporters turn very quickly on flashy outside types

To be fair to NWM he has been playing league or reserves most of the season and has by and large aquitted himself pretty well outside his weight division.

He doesn’t have to be a contested beast to play a pretty valuable role - but certainly agree to the extent he has to put his head over it when it’s his turn - and I think he does that. Time will tell of course but I think he has some pretty special qualities. He’ll get a run with someone so we’ll certainly see how it pans out for him

We have Sholl, who's very outside .....do we need another in NWM

Sometimes you have to overlook good players for the sake of getting the mix of your squad right ......case in point, trading Lyons

I'm certainly not saying NWM won't be a valuable player for the right club
