Starting the year at half-back, Dawson exploded as a wingman in the second half of the season and will bolster the Crows' ball use from next season.

Midfield .....quality disposal and height, we've been looking for :whitecheck:

Have heard through a guy who is well connected corporately in Adelaide that we are offering the world to North to get Horne.
Would not surprise at all if we did make that offer - doubt North would accept anyway

Those corporate guys are so in the know

Turn it up. What do you think we offered GC to grab Luko?

We haven't offered anything and we won't be offering 4 & 8.

That's next year and that was pretty clear.

Luko, Dawson, Cook plus a tall mid this year and its a very different game plan and strategy

Midfield is still the priority

I’d be just as happy with Callaghan than I would with JHF. So if we can get Callaghan with pick 4 I’d be stoked
I mentioned on this thread 2-3 months ago

I was told that when the team was in Melbourne Nicks had the opportunity to watch this kid play and was impressed.

It's interesting that after our round 23 win against North Nicks was asked about the win pushing us back in the draft and missing out on Hiorne, he mentioned that their was other elite mids the club was confident they could draft at pick 4

Totally agree ....we'll still get an elite pick at #4 ....and I'll repeat, no guarantee Callaghan doesn't fall to #4

The Dawson decision though means that Callaghan type player isn't as essential now ......still would love to have him

North will say No, they aren't trading pick 1 even if we offer 3 first round picks.
[/QUOTE if I were North I’d seriously consider trading with Adelaide. If they don’t he’ll just end up being targeted by Port Adelaide in a few years given his father played for them

And I posted at the time their schedules re where Nicks was on the weekends Callaghan played did not tally unless you're suggesting Nicks took a flight to Melbourne on the day before the Crows played in Adelaide or other places bar Melbourne. If he has indeed seen Callaghan play it would have been a live stream I'd think.

I think Ben Hobbs looms larger in the Crows collective mind now that Dawson is almost a lock.

Callaghan is pick 2 (outside bids) on just about every draft board, we need a miracle.

These kids, particularly the Victorians have had so little exposure I think there's a real chance 2-4 could be completely different to what draft boards look like now.

Consider draft boards this time last year:

TT, Phillips and Campbell ended up much higher. Hollands & McDonald dropped.

Maybe try doing some research before posting ...

2016 NAB AFL RISING STAR LEADERBOARD
1st - Callum Mills (Sydney Swans, 49 votes)
2nd - Caleb Daniel (Western Bulldogs, 41 votes)
3rd - Jacob Weitering (Carlton, 26 votes)
4th - Darcy Parish (Essendon, 19 votes)
5th - Darcy Moore (Collingwood, nine votes)
Don't need to research when you watch every game any use your usually reliable eye and good judgement, like my call on Butts in the SANFL claiming he'll make it [emoji849]

I'd be chasing Rankine this year .....another year at the Gold Coast, and he may not be recoverable .....the baggage too large

It'll take 2 years to reprogram Rankine .....we don't want another Troy Menzel
Rankine better have a good 2022 as his draft currency he had built up has evaporated. He's been on good money for little return but once he's on the open market his true value will be set. You can only milk the potential and go home factor card for so long. I would only consider him at the crows if he had a substantial turnaround in form and attitude. The reason Dawson was a great acquisition was because he was proven.

Shoulda gone to SpecSavers....

Late to the Jordan Butts party as well I see.

Not a Rankine fan?
At this point No, anyone that claims he's been anything other than a major disappointment has fair dinkum not been watching the Suns play.
The real worrying part is his total lack of doing the team thing.

Would I still bring him to the club if he absolutely wanted to be here, yes but it has to be on our terms and even then at a cost based on current performance and that's not happening IMO while he's contracted.

3 years in the AFL system he's still at the "potential" stage with many drafted after him outperforming his output.
This is not some tall gangly underdeveloped kid that needed time we're talking this is a lad that was playing senior SANFL footy at 16.

There's a few facts missing and the devil is in the detail.

So last year there was no absolute consensus on the order but this year there is.
Notice the difference

If Dawson is a mid - does Keays drop out or do we shuffle a kid out

And does it change our strategy at 4 or do we pick for future needs given Laird and Crouch age ?

tl;dr Does getting Dawson change our selection

Dawson isn't a hard running outside mid imo so we would want a Callaghan even more.

Midfield rotations I feel will define Nicks career, how they use Laird, Keays, Crouch, Schoenberg, Pedlar, Berry, McHenry.

Hamish looking at our long list of mids and with no F/S or Academy to bid on WaynesWorld19 gets his man Andrew and bigfooty breaks again on draft night.

Wouldn't think so, don't think our rebuild is at the point we'd go needs over pure talent.

I still think our focus will be on an a balanced midfielder and Dawson is certainly not that (not at this point anyhow) he's a wing/half forward for us I think.

I think Goater/Erasmus/Ward will be high on our draft board......and possibly Goater's teammate Zac Taylor with a later pick who just happens to have some of the best foot skills in this draft.
