Jack Gunston says hi.

Red flags there family wise

Finn Callaghan has close family ties to a current AFL coach.

It might not concern you but it's there.
I suppose the only thing in favour is that there’s been nothing from the boy himself that I know of. I say that only because over the last few years some of the Vico lads have gotten pretty cheeky about being right up front saying don’t draft me I wont leave. Still a risk though obviously

Seemed pretty keen on the Doggies and his family relative Bevo in his interview with Twomey on "The Road to the Draft" podcast.

With guys like Smith and Perkins, it was rumoured that they felt that way in the lead-up, but only confirmed in the week of the draft IIRC. It could also be another Cerra situation, where his apparent closeness to family makes a move back inevitable anyway, even without having the media rumblings

There hasn't been any public rumours either way on how Callaghan would feel about an interstate move yet, but I suspect we'll start to hear stuff soon if he would prefer to stay in Vic

I hope JHF is making similar noises in that case.
Just saying!

Yes very true. I suppose too that his camp may be sitting tight and waiting for final draft order after trade week.

I can't see anyone wanting to stay in Victoria after the last 18months.

How do you get the stong go home vibe?

The club needs to draft the very best available talent and back itself in, culture, program and success

If a player leaves its more a reflection on the club, not the player

Ah, if it isn't the attitude that has helped sink interstate clubs for the last 15 years when it comes to winning premierships coming back again.

Interstate teams need to be helping themselves, and there are certain players that you stay the hell away from, no matter their talent level as you're almost guaranteed to lose them, no matter what a club does. Callaghan is likely one of those players, due to how strong his ties are with Bevo (whereas other Vic clubs would stand a greater chance by removing the family selling point). Perkins was last year as another example.

I don't think we will go Callaghan even if available. Reckon it will be one of Erasmus, Rachelle, Hobbs, Gibcus, Amiss.

You can take Gibcus out of that lot, I’d fall out of my chair if we took yet another KPD with a high pick

Probably add Goater and Andrew in there as possibilities too, IMO

Yeah unlikely they go another KPD. If Butts did go down though this would leave us with Murray, Frampton with McAsey and Borlase as our backups or Murray and McAsey and Frampton and Borlase as our backups. I see Worrell as more of your interceptor type similar to Doedee. I think it depends how they see the futures of Frampton, Mcasey, Borlase, Worrell. If they don't see them as long term defenders they could go another tall down back to help out Butts and Murray. Most likely we would go a mid or forward and trade a Backman if we need it. We have a lot of numbers down back but other than Butts and Doedee not a lot of genuine quality after that.

Similar to what Obama once said about Joe Biden

Don't underestimate our ability to F--k this up.

We should be planning for next year to still be a development year so i hope mcasey and borlase and a few others get time in the AFL side to show what they have got. So if butts..and fingers crossed he does not..goes down injured we should have no fear playing the players we have...and not get overly bogged down by wins and losses. 2023 maybe a bit of a different story

If Perkins said what he said, what is stopping Horne-Francis from saying the same thing??
Probably Perkin's ruling out only 8/18 clubs where as Horne-Francis would be ruling out 16/18. In saying that Wingard was similarly rated as a junior (slightly less hyped) did the same thing and was okay

The absolute melts if we take a KPD would be like armageddon
But don't all Clubs take "Best Available" ....and if that's a KPD, so be it

That's what we continue to be told

Mac Andrews looks great, I can see the hype and possible move up into GWS pick territory.
We should make a play for pick 3, then talk him up so GWS pull the trigger at 2 and we can get Callaghan!

Goater, if not Erasmus and then James Willis with a later pick and we're set, all players with traits we desperately need in our midfield/forward set up.

well, really it would be ruling out 3 clubs, North, GWS and GC as we are at pick 4. And add to that, if we got wind that this was a scenario, we should seriously look at what the cost would be to get to pick 3 as the noisy neighbours down the road will be moving heaven and earth to get in ahead of us

I'd be looking at trading our 2022/1, 4 for 3, 19, 22, GC 2022/2 (i.e. our 2022/1 for 3x2nd round picks). Given list spots, GC may well do this.

We can then look at 19, 22, 23 for pies first next year and GC 2022/2 for Dawson.

Barracked for the Saints and then changed to barrack for WB when Bevo (husband of mother's cousin) became WB coach!

Hamish & co would have to have balls of stainless steel to take him.

Another big red flag would be if they have BYO childhood sweetheart/wife (Danger/Leaver).
