we seem very short on picks in a useable range.

We are doing one of the following:

1) Only using 4 and 33 in the draft, and filling the remaining list spots with O’Connor, Dawson and a rookie upgrade (Butts)

2) Receiving 39 back from Sydney in a Dawson trade involving Melbourne’s 2022 first rounder (with another of our future picks also going their way). Here, we would take 4, 33 and 39 to the draft, meaning that either Butts remains on the rookie list, or we delist O’Connor (O’Connor likely to be taken in the rookie draft)

3) Splitting pick 4 for 7 and 15 in a trade with Richmond, and taking 7, 15 and 33 to the draft. Again, this would mean Butts remains on the rookie list or O’Connor is delisted.

Short on spots too. I'd be very happy to draft at 4 and 33 , and promote a rookie, if Dawson was taken in the PSD and our picks remain the same.

There's also the chance of ROC re-signing, or a delisted FA like possibly Chandler.

Crow Cro has the Sanfl pass Mutineer so he would have seen him play alot

I think past pick 25 clubs are concerned that they haven't seen enough of these players over the past 2 years, and what they have seem most of it hasn't been live at the games

I’m keen to take 4 to draft night and see what we can get with it; I can see a club like Richmond being very keen on Hobbs or Freo on Erasmus.

We may of course just draft the best kid available at 4 but feels like there’s value in two first rounders for that pick.

That's strange - when you say "another young Sloane but shorter" are you sure he wasn't standing in a pothole?!!! FYI - he is exactly the same height & , at only 19 years old, the same weight.

Basically upgrade of 37(4 spots) and 23 (at least 5) at the expense of pick 44 (62 and 66 basically irrelevant). Not bad really.

and i do wonder about the probable pick 15-18 next year being perceived relatively higher as its a first rounder. suddenly we now have 2 first rounders in 2022 to draft and/or trade and ideally can dream for a Dees reversion to the mean for fun

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think it's actually possible to "run out" of picks, as such. You have as many picks as you need to fill up your list. The last ones would just come at the end of the the draft, after everyone else has already finished.

As others have noted, rookie upgrades count too. Surely Butts gets an upgrade this year.

Butts and/or Strachan, both of whom have been on the rookie list for 3 years. Keays an option too, but lower priority as he's only been on the rookie list for 2 years.
