List Mgmt. 2021 draft pool.

Would start off by looking at the clubs with highly rated father/sons. The Pies are one but they have already traded their first this year and will likely need more picks to match Pick 1 so we could look at doing a pick swap for one of their 2022 picks.

The second is the Bulldogs. They have had young Darcy pop up this year as a likely top 5 pick so we could possibly satisfy them points wise with a bunch of our later picks.

We could then look at swapping the dogs pick and Saints second to move up further in the 1st round but who knows, we might even have a player or two that wants to leave at years end and we could look at either getting more picks or upgrading picks that way.

I’d just be happy if we walked away from the draft with a KPD, KPF and Inside Mid. If we added a Narkle/Wallace/Lipinski/Ainsworth type on top of that then that would be great.
Agreed.
I don't know what the current ruling with taking picks to the draft compared to list spaces is. I feel that it should have changed to allow extra picks since you can now trade them on the night but I don't know?
Collingwood already have four 3rd round picks and not much else. Don't know if adding our 3rd rounders to their hand helps them. Are they allowed to take 6 3rd round draft picks to cover Daicos bidding or not? And they need to keep their first round pick next year? Only deal that might work for us both is for one of our 2nd round picks for their 2022 second round pick. Could be worth it as this year the third round might be not too much more of a gamble than the 2nd round anyway...
Bulldogs interesting. Out of all the clubs, we will likely have the best handful of second and third round picks that would suit them better than their late first rounder.

No doubt when I saw he was sub 185cm I thought it's not ideal. The good thing though is that more and more players are being talked about as top 20 prospects in recent weeks and guys like Sonsie are dropping.

Hell, even Van Rooyan and Rhett Bazzo aren't even considered first round picks anymore! I remember a few months ago we were saying picking those two would be a dream scenario.
I remember us all being worried last year whether Jackson Callow would last til our first. He ended up going undrafted until the midseason draft.
Eddie Ford was another I was hoping we'd look at and he was the fourth last player picked in the mid 50s.
It's usually the top 10-12 are fairly predictable and then it just gets almost random.

Found this about last year's draft. Answers my question.
Last year you were allowed to use extra draft picks for matching points, this year returns to normal.
It means our current 6 picks in the first 3 rounds can only be taken to the draft if we have 6 list spots.

Clubs have been informed that a significant change has been applied to this year's bidding system in light of the reduction in list sizes and the trading of future picks last year.

Under normal AFL rules, clubs who are matching bids for northern Academy, Next Generation Academy and father-son players are only allowed to use draft points from the amount of picks that is equal to the number of their available list spots.

This has been to stop clubs from stockpiling late draft picks with the intention of only using them to pay for highly rated draftees, even if they had more picks at the draft than they had list spots available, which was an early loophole of the live bidding system.

But clubs will not be bound by that rule at next month's national draft after the League gave clearance for clubs to use points from draft picks even if they are not going to use the selections to draft players.

In essence it means that the Swans, who will be forced to match bids for Academy pair Braeden Campbell and Errol Gulden, could theoretically take six picks to the draft but only pick up three players, but use the remaining selections for points purposes.

Although a subtle tweak, it is an important change in a draft year that is so heavily filtered with players already tied to clubs via Academies and under father-son links.

It will also benefit the Western Bulldogs, who have grabbed a number of extra selections to be able to pay for a possible No.1 matched bid for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, as well as the Power, who hold six picks and have ties to NGA talent Lachie Jones and father-son Taj Schofield.

Where in previous years the Power would have only been able to use points from the picks commensurate to how many list spots the club had available, this year they could essentially grab their two linked players and use the rest of their draft hand to help cover the points cost.

The Magpies, with speedy tall midfielder Reef McInnes, and Hawthorn, with line-breaker Connor Downie, are other clubs with Academy ties who will be waiting to see where bids fall, while Fremantle (Joel Western, Brandon Walker), Brisbane (Blake Coleman, Carter Michael) and Essendon (Cody Brand, Josh Eyre) are others clubs who also have their eyes on Academy players.

The AFL will revert to its usual rule next year, having allowed the clubs a one-off change given some had prepared for matching bids by already trading out future selections during last year's exchange period.

We would give pick 10 for this kid, would be an immediate into our backline. 10x the player that Miller is. Imagine Balta and Alleer in the backline for for the next 10 yrs - hello !!
I like the highlights. BUT "10x Miller" based on 2 minutes of highlights ????
I'll show you Bigoa's highlights, make Aleer look like a chump.

In all honesty though, worth considering. That year older & playing in SANFL.

Bigoa's highlights were all Ruck related, maybe he could replace Chol at best but nothing to show KPD unlike Alleer's highlights flying & crashing packs in every contest. As for Miller, will be lucky to play 10 AFL games based on what I have seen in the VFL. I hope they all prove me wrong.

Take the best KPF we can with a top 8 pick to replace Riewoldt.

Take an A grade mid with our other first rounder.

I'm not 100% sure if CCJ is more than just a big mark/kick player and so if he wanted to leave I'd want a top 20 pick and use that on another good midfielder in the draft.

With other top 30 picks I'd look at the best small forward and best key defender available.

Last time we used a first round pick on a tall was 2008 on TV
With 2 first round picks

P.S If this is a crap draft for talls and its unlikely any will be worthy/around for our two first rounders don't say anything , depressed enough after today..

Like what I'm reading about Josh Goater who is rising up the ranks.

190cm midfielder who's athletic in and out of traffic and can also play as an intercept defender.

Key forward
195cm/83kg
East Perth/Western Australia

It has been an incredible season so far from Amiss, who has been a latecomer into the West Australian talent program after blitzing at colts level. The key forward has been the most dominant in the country for his age, booting 37 goals in nine games, including a haul of seven last week against Peel Thunder. Amiss doesn't need many disposals to impact games, and he is deadly accurate, booting only eight behinds this year. A number of clubs will be lining up to take a swing at Amiss.

Use Geelongs pick for this kid ? get Jack to take him under his wing

I currently have our first pick getting us Tyler Sonsie who started the season rated very highly but has dropped down in most draft watchers ratings.
A few more losses and we could be considering Neil Erasmus or Campbell Chesser. All midfielders.

At least one of Jack Williams or Van Rooyen should be around our later first round pick.
Rhett Bazzo should still be available with our second round pick.

All speculation of course, but these are the sort of prospects we miss if we trade out our earliest picks for Cerra or whoever.

Crashing packs? All I saw were intercept marks. Which were more noteworthy than crashing packs. edit: the other vid had the pack crashing. What pick will he go?

Sounds like a great prospect. I can already imagine all the bad puns/jokes BT will make when he misses a shot on goal.

Apparently club recruiters have rated this year's draft as weak. So banking picks in the first round would be a good strategy

If we get compo picks for Chol or Kmac should try trade to Bulldogs with some of our other 2nd and 3rd round picks for their first rounder. as the Bulldogs need points to match a bid on Sam Darcy.

As it stands we could swap our second rounder plus 2 thirds for WBD first round pick

Another scenario is do a reset like 2016, we owe to the players in their late 20s and early 30s to have another crack at the flag. So try to prise gems from other clubs and back our recruiters to pluck gems from the draft.

Tom Green would be good, but doesn't seem much chance of that.
Not really sold on Cerra, only kicked 2.8 for the season and isn't dominating games.

Would back the recruiters to make the correct decisions.

I am thinking the same way. Goater is having a great start and from whats being posted by the guys on the drafts boad he is a inside beast that can kick goals and rack them up.

sounds like exactly what we need
