Yeah 100% I can’t say I’ve been following this draft class as long as previous years but the last few weeks I’ve really started to take notice.
If Gibcus is on the table at our first pick we need to pull the trigger, like you mentioned our Key position depth isn’t great at all where our midfield have a few guys that although unproven are at the point where they are ready to step up

Gibcus also looks promising as a forward as well going off his Rookie Central profile
Perfect replacement for Grimes or even Jack if they are right about his potential to play forward
And he is 195+ and very athletic so another Balta even.

Matt Clarke suggesting that we could move a second rounder back in the draft if there a group of players that we rate at the back end of the draft.
This will give us more currency in next year's draft which he says also looks strong.

One possibly pick 28 to Essendon for their future 2nd round pick + 51/56

The pick in the 50's will move to the early 40s with f/s and academy bids.
Weird considering we paid a fair bit to upgrade to that pick lol

Ned Long possibly

Trading up 38 and 40 gives us more flexibility, especially we wouldn't have used pick 40

Can trade up in first round pick 15 + pick 26/27/28 to get a player like Hobbs
Trade down if we think we can someone lower that we rate and get a future 2nd.

Won't be much of a hit pointwise.

Apparently keen on Draper in the 2nd round.

Clarke said we are keen on Draper? Or you've heard something?

How the * do we get Gibcus/Erasmus and Draper? That's 3 guys rated top 10-15 most of the year...

I've purposely avoided these draft threads for the last few weeks because I reckon just about everything that needed to be said about our needs and ambitions was said in the days just after the trade period.

However, as it draws very near, what we need to remember when contemplating our excellent draft hand this year, the words that have emanated from our recruiters, and our our club's requirements for 2022 and beyond, is that we don't really need to trade any picks prior to draft night so as to move up the draft order.

The ownership of three consecutive picks #26, #27 and #28 is a list manager's dream, and when held and deployed as a whole is worth far greater than the sum of it's three individual parts. Three picks in a row so early on Night 2 allows our list development team to carefully curate our selections accordingly to list needs. With these three picks, there is no need to second guess what upcoming clubs are intending - we will be able to handpick three young players based on what we need and upon who we've already taken at #7 and #15. No fear of teams with picks sandwiched in between our three 2nd rounders taking, say, the best tall remaining if we've just taken best available with the previous pick, or vice versa. We get to balance our list without any outside interference. It's a gold-embossed opportunity.

The most likely live trade we could do might occur if we totally fill our boots with #7, #15, #26 and #27 including perhaps a couple of sliders, and have a team like Port, Essendon etc knocking down our door as they spotted an unexpected gem still available for our #28, and want to hand over a 2022 2nd and 3rd rounder for the privilege.

But random trades like handing over our #15 and #26 for someone's #11-13 and #50 (for instance) are counterproductive, unless an absolute Top 10 slider appeared at #11-13.
I still think you'll see us move our current pick 15 (17) up for Essendons pick 11 (13) and sacrifice our last 2nd rounder 28 (30) with something coming back next year

Would love to get Gibcus and then trade with Bummers if Ward/Hobbs slides. That'd be ideal!
If ward or Hobbs slide the Bombers would not trade. They’d take the pick.

Sounds daft after making the Collingwood trade

Agree with all that apart from the bit about those in the know not being idiots
