This year they lost easily against Melbourne, Geelong and Brisbane - the other top 4 clubs by 31, 21, 49 points

5-8 clubs 4W-1L
Won: Essendon, Sydney, Giants, Dogs.
Lost: Dogs

Went 13-1 against sides out if the 8 in a very soft draw
14 of their 22 HA games were outside of 8 teams....jeez

Heard they statistically had the easiest fixture, but when you highlight how their season went, man they were average.

THe AFL, where nothing is really coherent or makes sense. Bush leagues have better systems than the AFLs

Port didn't choke they were outclassed by a far superior side.

If the media actually reported accurately rather than going for clicks all the articles would be about how much port over performed to win their first final given their abysmal track record vs top 4 teams.

Maybe Western are a better side than the paps but let's not pretend the difference in quality between the teams is anywhere near 70 points. Whether they choked under the pressure and expectation of the occasion, or it was some other reason altogether, they definitely performed well below their best.

To be honest...and i've watched the replay, you could see from the first bounce that they weren't intent on playing the "Port Adelaide way"

I dunno, there must have been some breakdown between coach and players because as far as i know, playing " the Port Adelaide way" should have been the only instruction needed to be conveyed by Coke Can Kenny followed by a singing of "The Creed". You could see poor Kenny every time the camera lodge on him, head in hands thinking "why aren't they playing the Port Adelaide way, does the Creed mean nothing to this group"?

I agree. For example - late in the season the Dogs and Melbourne beat us by 49 & 41 points respectively. Because they were better than us. But we turned up to play (and were well coached), which is why the margin wasn't 70+.

Interesting to see if their membership numbers take a hit next year.

They will walk into next year confident, putting this PF down as an outlier they can overcome.

Their fans won't fully feel like pretenders until they stop making finals off of easy fixtures.

2 non-final seasons and i think they will jump off.

Yep, around Christmas time there will be a few articles about how they are building a dynasty, and like clockwork, they will all jump back onboard.

In terms of double ups, our fixture after finishing rock bottom was harder than theirs after finishing top.

From the top 6 we had double ups against 1st and 5th.

They had one double up from the top 6. And it was against 6th (St Kilda who finished 2 games behind 5th). It was like the AFL got our fixtures mixed up.

we played Boggies, Port and Melbourne one after each other, cant imagine too many other clubs had done that

The Bulldogs were definitely the better side throughout the year. Port only finished above them because they (credit to them) didn’t drop any games to teams they shouldn’t have and the Bulldogs had a bad month to finish.

However, they are not a 70 point better side, they have more talent and are better coached but there is not a 70 point gap between 1st and 18th in the AFL when both sides bring their best, let alone two prelim teams.

The only way there can be a 70 point gap between two sides in a prelim is if one does not bring the effort and intensity required. The Bulldogs brought their best, and Port did not, you need to look no further than a contested ball differential of 30 to see that.

What makes it worse for Port is that they had everything going for them. Home ground, week off, less injuries, no COVID bullshit to deal with. If you’re cynical it’s easy to jump to the conclusion that they just expected it to happen for them.

That is a serious indictment on the players and coaches to allow that to happen and if you’re a port member you should expect answers as to why and be told what you’re going to do in future to prevent it from happening.

The part that makes it satisfying for us as Crows fans is this is a club that loves to brag that it’s “special” and “different” to other clubs. That might have been true of the old Port Adelaide of the 1900s but it is certainly not true of the teal version of the club and it’s never been more obvious.

Have you read the "Sack Hinkley thread"? A lot of them already knew Hinkley can't coach and now even more know Hinkley can't coach after the PF.

They say that now, but like when I say I'm never drinking again after a bad hangover, everyone knows it's bullshit.

True, and the Bulldogs were also understrength compared to a full strength Port Power team so I think you are right and they did choked big time. The Bulldogs did beat them by 3.5 goals in Adelaide during H&A so on paper the Bulldogs were probably a goal better given the players out heading into the game but Port Power had massive fixture advantage due to COVID-19 so should have won by at least 3 goals, hence that's 90 points turnaround.

Finals is a completely different game. The Bulldogs take their game to the next level and powaa don't. I would say the gap in finals is 40-50 points. Powaa could hardly beat a top 4 team all year and were a 5 goal better side at Adel oval compared to away. Melb would have flogged them so I think they are lucky they didn't get their pants pulled down like 2007.

Just read a Tealster suggest they would have won if they wore their rightful jumper. The PB.

AFL let the Dogs wear their traditional jumper, why can't they.

Lol

You just know somewhere there's a box of them that were made for wearing when they won the GF

Sooooooooo

Would anyone like to share any stories from work today?

I'd love to have an entertaining read about the shattered puffers.

I do love a miserable face on a Port supporter.
We have to wear masks when we visit our canteen onsite, not one Port mask to be seen today, glorious
